I'm a tool fan and i understand. They just want geebz to do a song they like, where he's done a couple tool songs before their one. Also some people just don't like tool too. They probably have songs just as worthy of a breakdown.

For me, "Invincible" is the lyrical key to the theme of the entire album. It's about maturity, with all its disappointments and opportunities. Inoculum is the Tool album for people with a little (or a lot of!) grey in their hair. That's how I vibe to it anyhow.

Yup also a double meaning of the expectation for the album to kill. And here they go! Broken bodies old man flab, let's suck our guts in and go for it one last time, Into battle. And they fucking did it again lady's and gents. Then another meaning is the obvious. A trible war elder going into battle AGAIN

When Maynard did that “20 second scream” in The Grudge he was 36. When he recorded this he was 55. That’s sort of the overall theme of this song and this album as a whole. Everyone gets older, and as you age you lose some abilities and gain some new ones.

When I was blessed enough to witness this performed live... The entire Colosseum let out an emotional yell of excitement and then was promptly paralyzed by awe. What you gotta remember is MJK lays down his vocals at the very end once the instrumentals are completely done. So he's finding pockets. He's unique for sure.

I see you that you “get” this song in the brain. But you you’ll feel this song differently at listens number 10, 50, even 100. You’ll feel it deeper inside than the dissecting, on the surface appreciation you have now. This band needs time to permeate before you actually....... get it on multiple levels. Dudes our age are in for a treat once you add the layers of lyrics and historical references, metaphors, and symbolism. I used to get mental snapshots of Ragnar Lothbrok leading an English raid then growing old and going through the world passing him by (reference to the show). Then, over time It morphed by mirroring my turning 46 and having time and mortality show me who’s boss... It’s a huge world. This song alone. Paint your own details and give it the energy that lights it up for you. We’re over a year in and I still paint in my head differently when jamming to this song it’s a perpetual painting in my head, best I can explain it. Tool is like no other. 🤘❤️

This song is a battle dude. An old warrior trying to maintain their place on the battlefield but ultimately dying a warrior's death. The inevitable finally catches that warrior but not before they have one last show of their true strength and power. An absolute masterpiece.

I’ve been a Tool fan since I was ten years old. By the time I was 12 Tool became more than a band and became a part of me and my life both musically and personally on so many different levels. I’m 40 now and this song connected with me so deeply. I didn’t watch any of the bootleg recordings of the new songs they played on tour because I wanted to hear the studio versions first with all the amazing production. I took a drive at midnight when the album came out and invincible and decending made me so emotional I had to pull over. I was on a long road up here in the Pacific Northwest so when I pulled over it was quiet and dark, woods surrounding the road, and I listened all the way through the album two more times just laying back in my seat and appreciating the life I have had so far and that Tool was still such a huge part of it

They DO use synths. Live in 2019 they had the singer from the opening band walk out and play any synth parts beyond when Adam stepped over and used it occasionally. Justin WAS playing harmonics but he never put down his pick for the performance. He was just using pick+fret harmonics. Whatever it is called lol

i saw this song live - when the beat slows down during the instrumental part - Adam plays rhythm and Justin comes in on the bass with some whammy pedal shifting him up really high and other effects like flange, sounding like a synth lead or heavily effected guitar. then a little bit latter the drums also stop and Danny plays a synth line using some mallet controlled synth keyboard behind his kit- while Maynard sings along to that melody. when the last note of that rings out he turns around and goes back into the drums - all live and pretty flawlessly done. it was pretty amazing to see.

That middle/end section is incredible: First Adam with the 'pull through' palm muting on his own, then Justin with the bass solo (tone and melody ++), then Maynard's weird vocal tone, with DANNY on the synth, then all back in to 'straighten out' (still in 7!), then smashing into the outro.

Fear inoculum is Tool’s Magnum Opus. It is the pinnacle of their musical journey. What an incredible work of art. The synth sound that starts at 20:10 of your video is actually a marimba lumina played by Danny. I seen him do it live. It’s that giant keyboard looking thing that arcs above/behind his kit.

It's hard to step through the portal, while analyzing the craftsmanship. Hehe. My first listen to any piece of music, I try to not analyze the structure. After that I; learn the lyrics, start to analyze the music itself, analyze production/recording techniques employed. Your challenge is very difficult in doing both on a first listen, especially with music as extreme as TOOL. But you are uniquely qualified and crushing it. Your insight into this music has been the next step in helping me enjoy it, by gaining insight from someone with the formal music training I lack. That vocal section you talk about around 22 minutes, sounds like a higher definition version of a 70's era Vocoder. Danny has a huge synth array that he loves to fuck around with (In my world there's Pink Floyd and TOOL - the "perfect albums" bands. Danny is like Roger with synths) and when you get around to the track Chocolate Chip Trip (drum solo) you'll see how he uses them to counter his drumming to incredible effect. My biggest suggestion in your journey that only can be taken by travelling through the portal that is TOOL's music, is to visit the source. The fist EP. Unlike everything else. It's brutal and raw. You will not be distracted by engineering techniques. You will not be having to worry about whether you can understand the lyrics. It will just hit you with raw force. No better way to appreciate the latest album and it's place in the progression of their artform, than to see how it all started. In dirty little clubs in SoCal, playing shows with other incredible bands like Rage. Music is the closest thing I've found on this planet, to magic. TOOL uses science/magic to enact their art. It's almost a new art form. Rich the Ancient Metal Beast

Justin's bass arrangement pulls me in every time. I've been watching/listening to your take on Tool for a while now and I usually agree with a lot of your assessment, but I really agreed with "just allow the song be the song". When I first started listening to this song, my initial reaction was to break it down, as usual, because I suffer the life long curse of not hearing a song as a whole, and I eventually reached the point where I just wanted the song to be the song. It's now my favorite Tool song. I've been listening to Tool since '93 and I think the band's evolution is one of the most diverse I've seen - from the antitheistic angst to something more cerebral and abstract. It keeps the old fans around and attracts new ones because of their artistic range. Tool for the win!
