One of the best progressive metal songs of all time. I know I'll get a bunch of nerds that dispute that, but idgaf. Tells such a crazy story and the musicianship is top notch. I really couldn't ask more from a band.

@@paulsanchez1031 check this spencer video out if you haven't already. Every now and then I revisit and I'm just like, holy fuck. There's like 4 or 5 different kinds of reverb, layers everywhere, intentional clipping, tons of harmonies and octaves... it's just insane how much you don't hear because it's blended in the mix. That channel also has some vocal stems from Bieber (who I like a lot tbh) and other modern pop musicians for comparison. It's just miles apart in skill and execution from what Spencer is doing. He's underrated as hell. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXm9aqNnlK9-qaM

Some things to reply to some of your comments: 1- it's a mix of live and vst strings. For prominent/solo parts it's emphasis on the live ones 2- the ostinato/pattern thing in 7/8 was written before the guitar part had been figured out. Watching a playthrough of that is crazy. Lots of movement. 3- they have producer packs that give you the stems from their more recent albums they self-produced. I think you'd really enjoy them. In this song, it reveals a creepy monologue that Spencer reads leading into the crazy riff solo thing.

Big fan of how you listen to the vocals as another instrument. I'm the same way. I often can't tell people what the song is about lyrically but I can tell you how the vocal layer made me feel. I'm still super eager to see you listen to some Between The Buried And Me. Probably something from the album Alaska or The Great Misdirect. Their other albums (aside from earlier stuff) all flow between songs and it can be jarring to listen to a song picked from the middle of the mix. If you're willing to commit to a 18 minute song for a video I'd highly recommend Swim To the Moon off of The Great Misdirect. It's one hell of a journey.
