Keys stuck in ignition. This was my FREE fix!!

I have a 93 Nissan Sentra. I popped off the gear shift cover and saw a rubber band tied to a cable. The previous owner rigged up for some reason. So I pulled back cable that the rubber band was tied too, and it released the key ! Thank you so much, I would have never thought of looking under gear shift cover if it wasn't for you. :)

It's called the safety interlock, very clever of you to figure out nice job. You can stop that from happening again with a plastic wire tie on the stick below the boot

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid and the set up is the same. I was 330 miles from home and the ignition did the same thing! Same problem. You did good, girl. It is encouraging to see that you fixed it yourself! Thanks. Dave

This led me to release the white slip, and snap the shifter trigger worked and the key came out.Thank you, this was very helpful, and better than a 60 .00tow fee and 70.00 shop fee to do the same thing!

I went to the car repair when mine got stuck. They just looked at me and yanked them out with force. I was scared to do that but it worked fine afterwards soo.

The other part of the system is the brake light switch it get's loose or break's and then it won't come out of park
