I've met Mel Fisher to Key-West in 1994 . We come into the bar to take a way food. À man coming ... i saw à Big man with a large smile i Said to me he look like John Wayne without long hair ans he come behind us to talk des minutes after the bardender say do You Know with who You talk ? I said no... he tell me he is Mel Fisher ! My Memory it was a Nice man he talk about Paris that he visit with his wife. We took a picture with my French friends ans its Big émeraude et sa grande chaîne en or. Never Forget this moment ! I love his détermination !

why would the pillars on the back of the coin represent the Pillars of Hercules? Wouldn't the the Very Catholic Spanish put the pillars of the temple of Solomon on their coins??

Look it up for yourself, manuelkong. The Pillars represent the Pillars of Hercules. I tried to show what every inscription on the Pillar Dollar coins meant to the best of my research. The Catholics in Spain back then were just a pack of hypocrites. They didn't really care that two civilizations, the Mayan and the Incan, were completely wiped out by the Spanish. As long as the crooked church got its 10% of the Spanish-stolen gold and silver, the Catholic Church could care less about the Mayans and Incans.

You know a trick I use to clean any silver, in a pot on the stove a roughly screwed up aluminum that's been sort of stretch to cover bottom of pot, put silver in making sure it's covered with water....when really hot add 2 teaspoons of Baking Soda and watch it bubble, if it's a big pot kind of do the math

I haven't a clue, user-tr2rt6zm7l. Gold Escudos were more carefully struck than Silver Cobs, but there have been known counterfeits of both. Coins without certification are viewed with suspicion by collectors. I would take the coin to Sedwick for more information and appraisal.

Perhaps, Ronald. I would need to see it. Is it a Cob coin? Cob coins were so irregular it is difficult to tell the year or even if it is a fake by sight. The best ID is a certificate as to the wreck from which the coin was recovered.

The term "rough as a cob" had nothing to do with Spanish treasure coins. It originated as a result of early Americans using corn cobs in place of our modern toilet paper. :)

My Parents and Grandparents used old Sears Catalogs to wipe. Anyone stupid enough to use a corncob to wipe their butt certainly walked around with a bleeding anus!
