I'll be honest, I haven't really been watching these ones, because I'm working my way through the DLC myself and I've been avoiding spoilers. However, I had to at least watch the Scadutree Avatar fight. I'm doing a big space, because of spoilers. I did not know it was a 3 phase fight. It's the only one like it in the entire game (none of the bosses get more than 2 health bars even if they technically have multiple phases based on moves alone). I about pissed my pants when it came back a third time. I hate Friede's fight, but I love this one so much even with 3 phases. I knew Friede had 3 phases before I fought her, so I got the true experience of being absolutely floored by a surprise 3rd phase. It's my favorite fight after the Midra boss fight. I defeated Midra last night and he's the only DLC boss I've soloed. I've been bad about bringing out the Mimic, but I get sick of the assorted bs the DLC bosses pull. That and my Mimic and I've been through everything together. I make sure to support her and I don't let her just play the game for me. There have been plenty of times when she's been killed early enough that I might as well have soloed the fight or whatever. I do have a faith-based second character (she's still in Liurnia) and I've made it a rule not to use spirit summons for any boss fights. I might bring out a summons to help clear an area of annoying enemies, but so far I've managed to properly solo all the boss fights. I love my precious giant sunflower with anger issues. Luke's reaction is a lot calmer than mine was. A lot calmer. I brought the Godskin Peeler back out for this fight. Black flame damage is noticeably reduced in the DLC compared with the main game, but the sunflower just really doesn't like fire (because plant), so I just spammed the black flame tornado in the 2nd and 3rd phases. The 3rd phase is showing its desperation to keep fighting. It reminds me of the very end of the Old Demon KIng fight in DS3. How he'll just flail around weakly at the very end. Given what the Scadutree Avatar drops, there is the theory of just how closely tied to Miquella the Avatar is. I love how they hid an item that is extremely helpful in the final boss fight of the game behind an optional boss in an area of Shadow Keep that is off the critical path. Like them hiding the crystal tear for Mohg's fight behind killing an NPC, but at least that NPC is connected with Mohg and all. Queelign is a pretty weak summon. He's very squishy and not much help. I should have given him the evil iris instead. Not that I was going to use the sword either. I did give the evil one to Jolan, but I wanted the sword she has. That said, apparently she and her sister are a very strong spirit summon pair.

Lovely start to the morning. I'm wondering, this is probably more of a patreon question so I'm not expecting a whole big answer Luke but what would you recommend as a good Elden ring build for someone who isn't especially good at fromsoft games? I'm not looking for a whole list, I mean more a general thing like "Two handed strength" or "Magic" etc.
@Joe90h3 ай бұрын
A good beginner weapon is the Bloodhound's Fang. Just look up the Blaidd questline and you'll get it pretty early on, you just have to take out a miniboss to get it but if you follow the quest Blaidd will be there to assist and you can also summon. It's a strength/dex weapon so you need about 18 in each I believe, which isn't too tough for a Samurai which also starts out with the reed armour, and I think also a perfectly fine bow? That basic setup will likely carry you past the point where you can easily respec if you later decide that you've seen something you prefer, but that's the setup I'd recommend to get your foot in the door. I'd also recommend going to the peninsula to the south for some early levels early on, as it's a rather low level area.
@JamesF07903 ай бұрын
@@Joe90h Awesome, I'll look into it. Thanks!
@sa-to-ri3 ай бұрын
I would suggest STR build + 2h colossal sword (my recommendation would be the sword simply named "Greatsword"). Pairs well with the Giant Hunt or Lion's Claw ashes of war. Early on, you'll probably pick up the Lordsworn's Greatsword which you can use until you find something bigger ("Greatsword", Zweihander, Grafted Blade Greatsword, Giant-Crusher). Bloodhounds Fang is pretty good as well, like the other person mentioned, but I think it's easier to play with the colossals because they stagger enemies so much. If you go for a mainly melee focused build, you can also pretty much ignore all stats except Vigor until you have like 40-50 Vigor which easily is the most beginner friendly way to play. The only reason to level damage stats (STR, DEX, etc. that scales weapon damage) early game is to meet the stat requirements for the weapon you want to use. The increased damage from raising stats scales extremely poorly until you have levelled up your weapon a lot with smithing stones. Levelling the weapon also increases damage significantly without any stat investment, so it's generally much better to look for smithing stones until you have like a +10-15 weapon (and at that point you probably have like 50 Vigor already anyway). Just never go over 60 vigor - it's a softcap, so you barely get any more health after that. But really, there is a reason that "level vigor" is basically a meme in the elden ring community.
@JamesF07903 ай бұрын
@@sa-to-ri Right, a soft cap being being the point of diminishing returns?
@sa-to-ri3 ай бұрын
@@JamesF0790 More that the returns start to drop off so much that you get a better RoI by investing in other stats. The returns from Vigor actually start to drop off already at 40, but it's not until 60 it gets really bad. I'd recommend any beginner to eventually end up with 60 Vigor, but if you have 40-50 it doesn't hurt to put some points in other stats you like before finishing Vigor. If you google Vigor + Fextralife you will find a fanwiki with a table showing how many points of HP you get for every level in Vigor (I tried to link it directly, but it seems like KZbin killed my comment for that). It's a very helpful wiki in general! It contains spoilers for the game though, so be aware if you prefer to play blind. It depends on the page though, a page about a basic stat naturally contains fewer spoilers than a page about a weapon, or a boss =)

i know nothing about elden ring other than what ive seen in these videos but did luke forget he has a horse? some of the platforming over the water and the flower boss battle surely would have been easier making use of the horse?
@sa-to-ri2 ай бұрын
The horse summon is not available inside areas that are not considered part of the open world. This includes for example legacy dungeons (the church area is part of a legacy dungeon called Shadow Keep) and most boss rooms (if there is a golden fog door, it's a boss room even if the fight takes place "outside"). There is a number of bosses that do not have their own boss room and just run around inside the open world (for example a lot of dragons), and those you can fight on horseback. There is also a much smaller number of bosses where the horse is enabled even inside their boss room but that is very rare (I can only think of two off the top of my head).
