@@AhrefsCom Leonardo probably put it lightly when he said his brain is exhausted. I think what he is not saying is that the videos are simply too fast for anyone to absorb anything. I don't know how many times I rewinded parts of the video, or even slowed it down to understand, what is being said. Here's another analogy: If you've seen the home makeover on HGTV, it's entertaining but you don't really find out the work involved in rebuilding a house, because the TV show's shows is only an hour. While the tips you're sharing, though, are top notch, the speed of the presentation is not. There are so many ways of presenting -- one as a showcase of its product, one as a helpful tool. I don't think it can be both. Set the speed at 0.75 to absorb fully.

I've learned KW research with the Ahrefs's ("ey-hey-refs-es"?) og article on KW research that ranks on top of G. This one article paved 50% of the KW research groundworks for me - which is mindblowing when compared to average SEO articles. Later on, I found that the other 50% is bridging between your KW research - data compilation - content planning - KW input and tracking. And what they usually tell you about it is this - 8:34: "create some kind of spreadsheet"... Yes, you could just "Export" and you got a "spreadsheet", but how to link it to your work and organise processes around it is not that easy. Even "Blogging for Business" wouldn't talk about it extensively. The same is true for numerous SEO courses I've taken over the years. With tools and tutorials like Ahrefs finding good keywords is super easy and mostly for free. But organising KW data and planning your work around it is the next level that most "SEO gurus" can't even explain properly behind the paywall... Except for Kyle Roof of POP - he comes the closest to nailing the other 50%.

Great sam. In ahref, there appears a parent keyword for every keyword you search, which might or might not be same. If a keyword has a different parent keyword then which one should you target where parent keyword is difficult to rank as many websites are well optimised for the keyword. On the other hand, the child keyword being a long tail keyword have pages ranking for which they are not even optimised for the keyword and thus seems easy to target and rank for that keyword.

Thanks for the great video as always. Just a question: If the Google first-page search for a keyword contains pages of giant companies like Amazon or Samsung, would it be possible to beat those pages by posting a longer content and optimizing the post for that keyword? I guess those pages of Amazon or Samsung are not well optimized for keyword. However, KWfinder shows the keyword difficulty of 50 for that keyword (monthly search volume only 10), only based on the PA of the first 10 pages in Google. Many of those pages are Amazon or Samsung, and obviously they have high PA and DA. Would you please comment on this? Can I trust KWfinder for the keyword difficulty or just ignore it and go for that keyword? Thanks in advance.
@AhrefsCom5 жыл бұрын
Hey, Max is here! Ranking for these keywords is a hard nut. These giants have high domain authority and backlink profile, even though a ranking page has less backlinks, it is still hard to outrank them. If search volume is just 10, I see no reason to waste time optimizing for this keyword anyway. A long run will bring pretty much "0" value even if you succeed. With all this being said, I would look for keywords with higher search volume and smaller competition. Hope that helps.
@griffinthompson92324 жыл бұрын
Love the video! Really helped me out! I had 2 quick questions 1. Let's say you have an e-commerce site that sells 100s of products that are all very similar. The only difference is the design of these products. Should you try to target a different keyword within each of these products? Or should you just focus on the keywords within the collection page of these products? 2. If these 100s of products all have crucial details that need to be included in the product description, will your SEO be negatively affected because of "duplicate content"?
@AhrefsCom4 жыл бұрын
I am not an eCommerce specialist, but I assume these 100 product pages need a canonical URL that will point to a main version of this product. In other words, only one page will be indexed, while you can still offer slightly different content for similar variations. - Max

Great video! My question is: what if a long tail keyword is targeted by both, domains with a high Authority and Reputation and also by domains that aren't well known, both appearing on the first page of Google for that particular keyword. Is it worth trying to compete with them when the keyword difficulty is low, such as 1-5, when my website has a low AR and DR?
@AhrefsCom4 жыл бұрын
Firstly, check if a page from high DR site has any backlinks itself. It may rank high due to strong domain authority, but with 0 backlinks you may still try to outrank it with some nice backlinks pointing to your page that ranks for that keyword. Anyway, I would still go for a low hanging fruit as ranking in position 2-6 is better than missed opportunity. - Max

@@AhrefsCom Ah, thanks. Sorry for the question's simplicity, since I'm a beginner at SEO and haven't quite gotten off the mark yet. Else I'd be able to follow that he meant shortlisting the options to incorporate into the website's content.

Can you do a video of an example of doing this in a real world application? Start to finish.

Love this video and how it's emphasized to focus on business potential of KWs and ensuring that we focus on helping our potential customers! I was left scratching my head in the business potential ranking section... I want to put together a system for this but if assigning a business value rating (1-3 scale was mentioned) happens before adding to a list and looking at top10 results (as suggested), how do I practically do that while the data is still in Ahrefs? Is there a way to add notes or a new column where I can add the 1-3 scale value? Or does your team ensure that each KW achieves a 2, for example, in order to make your list? I suppose given the way it was presented, it's unclear how to do this in a practical way but it seems hugely important nonetheless.

great tutorial on keyword research. I'm curious to know how much time does an average SEO spend on keyword research, let's say on a popular topic like "gift ideas for Christmas?"

I see my competition has like 20,000 keywords. I"m so confused. Where does the keyword go where do I suppose to put them? Are these keywords suppose to be on my website. or so I suppose to write articles. and where do I suppose to place these articles? And how do I suppose to get traffic to articles I write if I can't get traffic to my website

One thing I don't understand, there is a huge difference b/w reports of hrefs and semrush, I researched for a keyword in hrefs and semrush, hrefs was showing 14 KD while semrush was showing 84 KD. How is that possible?

Hi, great video. Thank you. I have a question. Towards the end of having saved the keywords of interest, you recommend to then delve into the serp drop down to check whose using those keywords and to take note of things like the DR and so forth in order to determine if its easy pickings or not. Is that what the keyword difficulty indicator would be summarizing by chance?
