This human being……such passion and such humility. So many teachers and gurus who I have listened to make it about themselves, and “their teachings”, always me me me, “my teachings” and so on…….putting themselves above the audience….. not this man…. how grateful I am to have come across the teachings, words cannot describe. One of the Comments pertains to the sequence of 'Perception, Sensation, Contact and Desire', wherein the viewer has asked : "What is Contact ?". First of all, I would like to point out that while initially Krishna Ji does refer to this sequence as 'Perception, Sensation, Contact and Desire', but subsequently he corrects himself by referring to this sequence as 'Perception, Contact, Sensation and Desire'. And that is how it is. From this sequence, it can be seen that contact is the process which converts perception into sensations. And from sensations, desire is born. Contact is a very complex process. One needs to go very slowly into this. contacts are said to be of six types : Eye Contact, Ear Contact, Nose Contact, Tongue Contact, Body Contact (i.e. touching something by the body) and Mind Contact. For any contact to occur, three things are necessary - The Object, The Sense Organ and The Consciousness (i.e. Memory). Remove any one thing and contact is not possible. For example, for someone who has unfortunately lost the ability to taste, tongue contact is not possible. Similarly for eye contact, ear contact and so on. Also, if contact occurs, sensations are inevitable. What the Teachings point out is that while sensations are inevitable, thinking process always utilizing the sensations to trigger desire may not be necessary at all.

Perception Sensation contact desire What is contact?

hmm... not sure maybe is touch in a sense? Touch of something or finding something out as a form of contact? Or maybe is the integration of the senses after sensation... ah words... who knows! :D But now I think about it a bit more there is no desire without memory I think so maybe contact is some pre-memory word (maybe I learn this from Krishnamurti some other time). Like you cannot desire something you haven't experience before. So desire comes from the memory of not having something you experienced.
