'Why are you here?'
This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

It hasn't "Taken over", but people believe that they are dependant on it. If t disappeared tomorrow, we would have to go back to analog. Remember when kids knew more about history and science than they did about their high score on a video game? Going back to actual learning instead of a bunch of unhappy, over-stimulated, limited idiots that most people are.

The computer had already taken over by 1985, where were you then? Soon the computer will disappear into the fabric of society, it will be like clothing, or cars, or streets, just an invisible unconscious part of existence that we no longer think about. Keyboards, how quaint.

I was in the audience when this was recorded. His presence is just as strong on video. Don’t feel you’ve missed out. His books The first and last, freedom. The awakening of Intelligence, Krishnamurti’s Notebook and Commentaries on living ( 3rd series) I found particularly helpful. Also his biographies. I struggled for years to understand what he was/is pointing to. He helped me see more clearly the pitfalls of life from the age of 15. I’m still trying to answer/live the question he poses at the end here (not conceptually). Aren’t we all? It may have been at the end of this session that he said “Please if I may request .... don’t clap. If you clap you are clapping for yourself ... or” , he laughed, “clap when I’m not here”.😀

synchronicity676 An Australian Woman sat beside me at lunch after one of the talks. She said K had changed her life and wished she could thank him. She hadn’t realised he had his lunch with everyone else in the tent. I said “He’s over there”. He was standing, looking around while eating from a paper plate . She went over to him and shook his hand. I didn’t feel a need to speak to him in person. If you read his notebook you sense the quality that he was pointing to and which we are all capable of realising. Throughout his life he saw people, by appointment, individually for 20 or 30 minute sessions, several times a day. Many of these conversations are captured in the Commentaries on living series.

According to his biographers, around that time (he was 90) he was wondering why people came to his talks, some of them year after year after year, without any apparent change in their lives. So he asked that particular audience at the particular time and place. As usual, it was not a philosophical question, but simply factual. What the hell are you doing here in this nasty weather (if nothing comes of it). He posed the question because he wanted the people present to ask themselves. He was also often asked through the years why he kept on talking. He answered that with the mirror metaphor. There is no use trying to divine a "philosophy" from what he says. The man was dealing with facts. You can debate opinions and theories forever, but facts you must see. Such as: your admiration, or enmity, of Krishnamurti prevents you from seeing. And as he said, once you see the facts for yourself what use is the mirror.

I think if Krishnamurti would’ve read these comments he would feel nothing but balance because he doesn’t let his ego get the best of him. Also, he would tell us to not see him as a wise man and not put him on a pedestal but to just see him as a person who wants to help. The best thing as a society we can do is be kind to everyone and never treat someone else MORE or LESS. To just be.

I do not want to lay claim to what this wonderful speaker is saying, but I think his unanswered question suggest that we can never know why we are here, and so do not surrender your entire life and amazing capacities to those who can rule over your existence convincing you that they have that answer. Just by paying attention to his questions one can solve the question without the answer. So profound intelligence that can make someone realize the answer from just the question. No answer needed. It would have been fitting were he to have passed in front of his audience slumping in his chair. That last effort on his breath. Perhaps then we would listen and see he has taken responsibility. That he has found his mission, his station in life, the reason and honored it. This man was god talking to us, god in each brain forgotten. Unfortunately, even though K. is possibly the best, although he has an insight into the way we function he doesn't have the tools, the language to make it clear. If he had acquired this practical language, a language that clearly points to the structure and activity of brain-mind some people would see, sense this brain activity and discover psychological freedom is not to do with K. but the outcome of seeing, sensing brain activity.

I'm 24 right now and it's been more than 2 years since I found Krishnamurthi and I couldn't agree more with what u have said. In the initial days I found it difficult to make sense of what he was saying probably becoz of my conditioned mind but as I gave time I began to understand, perceive and started living by the words it really brought a revolution in my life. To try to answer his question: I think our brains have evolved over many years in the search of exploring the unknown. To be able to grow bit by bit, generation by generation (when we are not stuck with fear). We now have extra-ordinary brains as he said, but where will we be in another 1000 years if we keep striving to learn, to accomplish, to explore? We are also where we are today because people strived for a better future, more information, greater experiences generations before us. When I think about "the striving", I also think about the word "flow". Because to be alive you have to move. Nothing can stand absolutly 100% still and be alive. Not an ant, not a tree, not the river, no human. So: we are formed and shaped by the striving/exploration of all things before us, which generate a new understanding and more striving/exploration in the furture, which again will shape the world for another tomorrow. Are we moving towards something? I do not know. But I feel its like my imagination. I get a thought, a problem to solve, something to ponder on from a friend, family member or and observation. And a new world of understanding and experience can grow out of it. Its like we like we live in an physical imagination xD

Why are we here ? Why are we here? my personal answer to this simple question but, difficult to understand is that we are here because we are de consequences of other desires and needs. As the Bible said Eva and Adan had a need to SIN and we just became the consequences of that SIN. Some people think that we are part of some type of an evolution and this is the need of creation and as result we are here. Now, do we have a purpose? Or divine purpose ? Only purpose is survival. Just like everything else in the world, plants, water, animals, virus, parasites, earth even the cosmos. Our body as we call it it’s nothing more that particles of nothing created by nothing. It’s something call conscience that connects everything but, we can’t understand. I heard some people referred the conscience as a some type of energy and has laws but I don’t thing that it’s really truth, if you look the cosmos it’s always in chaos.the earth is always moving and everything in it. Our life is based in chaos, our thinking is everyday in chaos has no laws. Ask yourself when was the last time you made a list of all your thoughts before you even think them. We only need to let things go to sync with the universe and Mother Earth to have a good life. Stop trying to be better that others and allow the conscience take over your life if you have something. Sharing is the best to keep the equality balance of this.

Any guesses, what is unique , completely free of previous knowledge and totally original. Well that must be a baby or the new birth of any life form; however , you would have to discount genetic knowledge. Other original things in the past have come from new discoveries in science, then there were things that are built on top of that knowledge that are new and unique also but pseudo original - hybrid fate stemming a new form.

Why do we exist? What is the purpose of our lives? If to think existentialy, we are in infinite space because even when something ends, something else will begin. If in the beginning existed nothing, which can't be true in infinity because the whole can't begin or end how nothing could understand that it exists. Nothing needed to do something with itself to have the feeling that it existed. In order to do that, it started the process that could be a movement or scientists say vibrations that created opposites. It started with begging and end. Then, it added more, such as hot and cold and so on. The order had its way, but it's not related to the question. When it was enough for opposites in space, it appeared something that we call physical. With more complicated opposites, human consciousness was developed, which is the final physical development because it understands that it exists as it is. We are a creation of infinity complicated enough to understand existence by experiencing it. It keeps all the steps, so we better experience everything such as atoms, molecules, cells, small organisms, and animals, then humans. That's why the more we experience in our life, the happier we are. Our existential job is to be aware of as many opposites as we can handle by developing our perception using our body and mind. When we go in circles by replaying our pastin mind or mixing past knowledge to create imagination of our future (that is just good for survival), we don't do the job of our purpose, which is to pay attention of as many opposites at this moment, because infinity has only space and time is only a movement of those opposites. The creator is space, and creation is movement. The more we develop ourselves in all senses, which is action the more we become conscious of our existence. Fear or any other negative thoughts are just a lack of development of our consciousness. Joy is stimulation for our development. Attention is our development.

Interesting timing in my life for this most profound of questions. I like that he asked it of himself as well. What am I doing? I think that we ask this question, because we need the feeling of "having a use", which is nothing but an intellectual hobbyhorse. There is no use that we can understand. This leads to a kind of anxiety. The answer to the question is trust in whatever put us here (even if that is "just" evolution, which in my mind is more wonderfully complex than any human conception of God can ever be) and stopping the attachement of such importance to this blink in eternity that we are here. It is of the utmost imporance that whatever happens now, happens exactly as it is happening. There is nothing I can do to stop it or further it, all I can be is a thankful witness and pay attention. So why did I decide to listen to the speaker? Why is it important that I know? Or is it the intention of the speaker that we question the question and thereby our motivation to do anything and the perceived importance thereof?
