EXTERIOR
A factory perfect Ford Escort RS2000 with only 17,291 miles finished in Special Vehicle Order Black, (Code XSC-632). This example will be a blueprint on how the idolised RS2000 left the Saarlouis production line new in 1979. The day before the car was registered, the owner requested Cadulac corrosion preventive treatment still visible today along with the guarantee certificate and receipt for £50. The polyurethane droop snoot is straight housing a set of four Cibie 60/55W quartz-halogen headlamps and Altissimo rear light clusters. Ford mud flaps are fitted and all glass is correct Sekurit with the bronze tint. Garaged stored from new with a few minuscule markings left to uphold factory originality.
INTERIOR
Pristine Twin Recaro high-back recliners with the fish-net headrests are factory original finished in desirable Black Beta Plus fabric, (Code A7). Cut pile carpets and fully trimmed door panels are in excellent condition with two speakers. Black plastics are in excellent condition and the RS instrument panel houses functional gauges and bright orange needles. The luggage compartment is spotless with the cut pile carpet extending over the spare wheel and retaining rubber strap still with small circular plastic retainer popper present. The colour code sticker is attached to the rear panel and even the pen markings to the boot floor remain! An unused Ford jack and wheel brace in the hessian bag is correctly located.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
A matching numbers 1993cc SOHC Pinto engine remains untouched. The chassis number is stamped on the heavy-duty spot-welded offside suspension top and left in primer grey paint. As the car is finished in Black, the Special Vehicle Order (SVO) sticker to the inner wing is amazingly still attached, with option 5AK-B/1 printed. Performance figures of 108.2mph top speed and 0-60 in just 8.5 seconds are quoted. The Type E standard four-speed gearbox snaps into gear perfectly.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Fitted when new are pristine RS Mexico steel 5.5x13in wheels with RS centre caps to enable a saving of £135.01 on the list price as detailed on the New Car Invoice. Pirelli Cinturato CN36 tyres are fitted and the spare is factory untouched still with red chalk markings. Girling M16 callipers grip solid 247.5mm solid front discs and self-adjusting rear drums halt the car well.
HISTORY FILE
This RS2000 Custom was manufactured in July 1979 and first registered on the 1st August 1979 to Mr Paul Roadknight. Mr Roadknight ordered his dream car from his local RS Ford Dealer, Bristol Street Motors in Birmingham. After years of saving he took the plunge and haggled a deal for £4,294.18 which represented a discount of £347.22 and a further saving of £135.01 by deleting the alloy wheels, later reinstated! The car was used sparingly for the first five years as evidenced by the MOT history until an incident caused him to park the car up in his garage for 36 years and never use it again. Discovered by an RS Owners Club Member in 2021, (photos exist in the history file of the discovery with it covered in dust), with one of the photos including Mr Roadknight now in his eighties. The car has now been fully recommissioned and on its first outing at the 2023 Lakes Tour, won Car of the Tour! Documentation with the car includes the original Registration Document, order form, new vehicle Invoice, Cadulac guarantee certificate, service book, handbooks, radio instructions and old MOT certificates. More recently, a letter from the owners friend and invoices relating to the recommission.
