@PennyPastor-yk1cg I've found 3 three's to be key with guppies and endlers. They need hard water. They need I mean need like 3 females for 1 male ND you must cull or separate them out or the females will waste away due to stress. and finally genetic diversity is super important

I had 6 quarter sized Discuss in a 35 gallon tank. Needless to say they all lived to be salad plate size, and I ended up with a 125 gallon tank that I had special made for filtration. They bred, but ate the fry, and all lived to old age. This was 30 years ago, before the exotic colors, but mine were all the neon blue. Beautiful fish.

For aquariums, sump is absolutely the best type of filter for keeping fish. Planted tank may need canister for CO2 concerns. Personally my favorite is Nexus moving bed filter plus a bakki shower with bottom drains, but that is more for pond.
@CB-fn3me5 ай бұрын
My favorite filters are Fluval U2-U4 internal filters. They are efficient, simple to clean and dead silent. U2 works fine with a ca 100L or 25-30 gallon aquarium and U4 is suitable for a 200L or 50-60 gallon aquarium. I suppose that there's a smaller U1 and an intermediate U3 but I haven't used any of them.

Angel fish are incredible fish! One of the most interactive and jaw dropping fish I own is a full grown black marble angel fish, Cory’s are amazing and deserve to be in any tank, cannot get enough of them! Blue acara are fascinating and the best of best when it comes to South American, aren’t they bred by people ? Rams are great fish they can get a bit aggressive but keep like with like, I have a single Koi that’s 14” in a 75 gallon in my living room… the pond was supposed to come it’s not and I think my koi is a domestic, THINK Betta have some of the most beautiful colour patterns and the flossiest of the flowing fins. And you said perfect, betta fish bring their own type of fish keepers, all the same love just for the one! Discus are stunning I only wish I could open a 125 for a big old group of them! I don’t have the water ph where I am and already chase water for 14 tanks so as much as I want them, I got some cousins, Loved this episode and love you guys! Stay happy and healthy my friends! 😊❤

I think I'm going to comment on all of the fish on the list. Corydora catfish: they have what I call a quiet beauty. The ones I've seen are mostly silverish, sometimes with black stripes, but what I find beautiful about them, is that pale blue flashing they have when the light hits them just right. It's like a pearlescent blue, which I love! Also, they are on my list as one of the most beautiful fish. Angel fish: I do agree, a lot of the Angel fish are beautiful, but to me, there are some variants of Angel fish that aren't as striking as others. Most people find them beautiful because of their exotic shape. It's true that being different is beautiful, but again, there are other fish I find more striking. I do have them on my list of most beautiful fish, but they are not high on my list. Electric blue Acara: Those are some beautiful fish! I've never owned one, because I've never had a tank larger than 29-gallons, but If I had a tank big enough to house them, I definitely would! German Blue Ram: Those are pretty fish, I'm not going to deny that. Personally, I've never owned any and this is the first time I've seen them. Yes, they are pretty, but I don't know about calling them beautiful. They do have striking colors, but I'm not sure about the neon yellow color. I guess for me, there are other fish out there that I find more beautiful than those. Koi: Koi were on my list of beautiful fish, and I do find them beautiful. I've never owned any, because I've never had a pond, but I think my great grandfather did! He had a pond out back, and I think he had goldfish and Koi in it. What I like about Koi are their striking patterns, with the white and red, or gold, the metallic sheen they have. I would love to have a Koi Pond some day! Betta fish: I'm shocked these guys didn't make number 1!!! They are definitely on my list. I've always wanted to own one, but I don't have room to put up a tank suitable for one. I will NOT put them in a tiny nano tank!!! Discus: I'm one of those that thought they were saltwater fish, that's why they aren't on my list. They are absolutely beautiful though! I love the different colors! One thing that did surprise me, is that the fancy tailed guppy didn't make the list. I thought for sure they would.

14:28 - The sentence I probably hate the most in the world: "Gorgeous fish, sure they're freshwater?". Dunno why so many people still think freshwater fish are drab and saltwater ones colorful when just a passing glance at a fish shop will reveal you the entire rainbow of colors in both sections (and brackish too - Mollies and sailfin silversides / Marosatherininae have some nice colors), but still seem like this is a very hard-to-fight stereotype.
@bluebird46145 ай бұрын

I love canister filters. I run sponge, Matten, sumos and canisters for tanks that are all in my family room and the simple reality is canisters are quiet, highly effective and relatively easy to clean. I like Fluval a lot, pretty much all I run. Eheim I have used, but was not as silent and Oase are just beginning to show up in North America, but they look to be excellent and I look forward to trying them some day. The other brands (Sun Sun, Penn Plax, etc.) Just don't rise to the same level of quality as the above three. Other filters: HOBs, have come to hate them. They're loud when the water drops, take up a lot of real estate when you have to move larger tanks out from the wall, they jam and need constant cleaning. Yes they work, but not for me. Sumps, I run overhead sumps with plants to help with nitrates, love them for that, but they don't filter the same way. Similarly, overflow sumps don't filter out lower level detritus as well as canisters do, plus they're loud, messy and awkward if you're older and don't like crawling under your tank to clean them.

I'm going to have to say the best filter type for *most* people is going to be a canister filter. Fluval being the obvious top brand there. However, I'll add a few comments: 1) sumps are the *best* filter, I don't really see how you can argue that. 2) I personally love sponge filters in smaller tanks. They're incredibly efficient and I just honestly don't mind the look. 3) I'm just honestly not a HOB filter fan after literal decades of using them. 4) Man I wish under gravel filters were still easy to get in a variety of sizes. Love'em or hate'em, they are actually very efficient in terms of surface area for biological filtration.

I agree Lisa! You don't get a more beautiful (and color/fin variety) than bettas! Male endlers are up there, too. Edit for vote: I bought a $14.99 Tetra Whisper PF50 for my new 10 gallon invert tank. I stuffed it with blue bonded filter media, and it is silent and ADJUSTABLE! I bought 3 more in case I get another tank or this one breaks. I have had all of the brands of HOB's (for nano tanks, 29 gallon and under), and this beats them all. I had a blackout and it started right up w/o priming. $14.99 at Petco!!! Since filters are known for jamming, I would rather replace a cheap but functional one rather than $35-$40 one that may quit on me (as many have). I would rather spend the money on a quality substrate and plants.

Koi for a pond for sure. Discus are cool but I just picked up 3 severums. I might like their heartiness and there not hard to take care of. Love their size and are gentle giants. Just picked up a 12 inch bala shark. I got 2 juvenile starry nights and a juvenile blue acara. Had a salvini once. He was cool. But they more aggressive like the convicts and Jack dempsey. Now can't wait to get 1 or 2 oscars. This line up will complete a 125g I'm getting in couple mths. Then I'm gonna create an African cyclids peacock tank in a 75g. I'm excited this year.

Totally agree with most of this list, especially Koi. Unfortunately, I live about a mile and a half from a nature sanctuary, that sadly includes a population of Great Blue Heron. They turned my pond into a very expensive sushi bar. Watched one gracefully touch down and strike, and carry off a 15" fish that I swore he should not be able to carry. I would say my "most beautiful fish" is not on this list, I have wanted a Synodontis Angelicus for a very long time, love the stunning black velvety body and the triangular dot pattern. No color at all, and still gorgeous. But moderately expensive and very much out of supply all the time.

Ok, so here’s the problem with the listing for #5: it should be for the blue acara (Andinoacara pulcher). That’s a South American cichlid that presently comes in both the original wildtype, and the “electric blue” color morph, which is either simply artificially selected, or maybe even a forced hybrid with the “electric blue” morph of the ram cichlid (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi). Now, for someone like me, the blue spangles of the true blue acara and similar cichlids make them some of the most beautiful fish on Earth. The “electric blue” morph is pretty, too, but not as beautiful as the wildtype, and besides, when you factor in possible health problems from inbreeding depression, not something you want to perpetuate. They’re also twice the price, yet for some reason it’s getting ever harder to find true blue acaras. Moreover, you wouldn’t list just one color sport of angelfish, oscars, or Jack Dempseys, so why do that for blue acara? It doesn’t make sense, and it does a disservice to the original. You should list them by species, not just some new variety.
