Feds throw in $1.5B for Interstate Bridge replacement project with major grant

This is the second major federal grant the project has received, bringing it closer to covering the entire projected cost, which is expected to exceed $6 billion. The award comes about six months after the project received $600 million from the federal Mega grant program, bringing the total federal investment to about $2.1 billion.

Gotta love progress, just think, 100 years ago, when things got done and didn't have so many rules and regulations to follow, I'm quite sure that the new bridge would have been finished by now. Our technology, equipment, materials and knowledge should allow for the structure to be erected much faster than in our past. Having turned 72 this summer (I remember riding across the bridge with my parents and having to pay a toll) and knowing how inefficiently our government gets things done, I seriously doubt that I'll ever see the groundbreaking of this project, let alone it's completion. By the time it's completed, it will probably cost more to drive across the new bridge, than we currently pay for a decent burger & fries. Maybe it's better that way0, maybe not......

Very excited to see light rail extend into Vancouver! With the Vancouver waterfront booming I'm hopeful this will fuel other projects and developments in the area.

Save a billion + & skip light rail! Most Vancouver residents we have spoken to say the rail line is in the wrong location for those who live in residential areas. Also need to solve the safety issues regarding transit of all types 1st.

As soon as they start tolling they will whip out the wish list and start ramping up the charges. I can hear these folks rubbing their grubby mitts together about a "new revenue stream" from here. The answer is no. .
