Tron Legacy would’ve been a great world in KH3. Big Hero 6 was about data so I’m sure they could’ve connected Tron Legacy’s plot to it. Plus they could’ve taken it a step further by making Clu a copy of Ansem or Apprentice Xehanort. You don’t miss out on anything by removing Sam and his dad from the plot. It also could’ve been a way to naturally provide exposition like explaining how they get Xion, allow Sora to catch up to what he didn’t know at the start of KH3, etc.

Alternative idea to the drop and swap system: Just fucking have sora and riku together. I don't know a single person who wanted them separated. Let them have their adventure. Without needing 2 parallel storylines, you can properly set up the stories of most worlds and extend them a bit. (I don't care about the plot twist they had at the end regarding Riku and dream eaters, barely memorable) You still want a third party member? Hmm, if only there was someone other than Mickey in KH2 who got a keyblade.... Yeah Kairi. Make her be a playable character and party member. Let her stop being useless and also give her screentime so we can see her character. You can even still have the branching shit. It'd actually be cool to see Sora Riku and Kairi all have their own unique stuff they get/equip. It makes no sense to me why Yen Sid decided to wait so long to have Kairi trained. He should have had her trained the second KH2 ended. I know it's because the stories weren't properly planned out in advance these things come up, like Mickey deadass leaving Aqua in the realm of darkness and not telling anyone important. Like Bloody said though, this would make it an entirely different game. You're better off starting it anew from scratch.
@taputrainer8463 Жыл бұрын
My alternate idea was that instead of Sora and Riku taking the mark of mastery it would be Riku taking his and Axel taking a test to use the keyblade. Primarily because Riku was originally meant to be the only playable character in DDD and Axel would have something to do. But thinking about what you said, it could be Riku, Axel, and Kairi as a team going in there and just remove dream eaters as team members because no one really cared about them. Or the story could switch between Sora and Riku to Axel and Kairi, either way big story changes would have to be made but it would’ve been so interesting to not have Sora as the main character and in KH3 Sora’s mission is to find the power of waking I guess

It's not even "the casuals", it's the fact that the vast majority of base KH2's story playthrough is piss easy and does next to nothing to encourage doing anything but X and Triangle with the occasional Cure. I still remember that my low level Proud run actually felt like the baseline difficulty the game was supposed to be, because it was the only time enemies didn't just melt away. And even Critical in 2FM doesn't really get to that level of difficulty. It still feels easier than it should for the hardest difficulty setting, IMO - largely since there's little incentive to deviate from X and Triangle. But at least "little" incentive is better than "none", which is what the base game had. Things definitely get different in L1 Critical, or against the various superbosses, but otherwise, that is indeed how most encounters tend to go.

Actually getting farther into this stream, I'm hearing BB talk about Kingdom Hearts 2's command menu. As much as I love KH2's set up I can completely understand just how much someone can hate the menu system. When you have to deal with magic, items, Summons, and Drives (which also have their own submenues) in the middle of intense combat, it can get a little aggravating. Especially when you can't even customize certain aspects to make it easier for yourself (example, Summons, Drive forms, Limits, etc will always be in a set order, Genie will always be random in what form he chooses, etc) and if you don't have it memorized or know what you want before going in, you're pretty much fucked unless you're good at it, though that's more of the RPG part than a fault of the game

Drop system exists because you are in the dream world. so you are being forced asleep. It exists to show the player "hey, you got a time limit in this realm unless you do something about it" I agree with BB though it should be optional or not exist to begin with. it should just let you reset to riku and sora whenever you want. It doesn't have to make sense and it doesn't have to have a more important reason to exist. (I know this sounds kind of stupid to be an MM type of system, but I guess both systems reward the player for changing them and resetting them, but i should have thought of a better thing to put up against this system..) It's just a legend of zelda MM time limit.

The time limit aspect of MM also has more to do with the story of the game. In DDD, you can choose not to engage with the dropping system by downing items and absolutely nothing changes in the story making it ultimately useless. And even if you do know that, it's still a bit hard to train certain things, that's why I always dream of mods that let you have " custom training " like in Rocket League. It's just a thought but I think it can be really cool ( I don't know if it's really do-able though, looks hard ), I want to learn to play correctly in mostly every KH game ( at least 2FM ) so it can be pretty helpful. I feel like when I try to play well, I tend to return to my bad habits of not using the other possibility the game offers. Anyway I totally agree with this sentence.

ok after a lot of thinking I have found a reason for the drop system, if you are having a boss fight that takes the whole drop bar to do then 1.The game wants you to be stronger and 2.If you had dropped in with more buffs you could do it faster. so if you plan out stuff well you might be able to play as one person for a while use the drop me nots and build up some points for the buffs, then switch when they get close to a boss or just when you have enough points for the buffs the person fighting a boss or about to fight a boss need to do the fight faster or not die as fast. I do agree the time thing is stupid but it stops you from fighting a boss for a long time and slowly getting it down, that then making the buffs from the drop more useful. not defending the game I was just thinking about how it works, I love the KH games even the bad ones.

KH's "lack" of explaining what it wants to be likely stems from its Final Fantasy roots and the factor that it doesnt want to cater towards any one part of its audience. The casual appeal they draw in from being a Disney crossover could be alienated by a heavier combat focus that rewards skillful players. You said it yourself, some people want to just button mash so the game does the bare minimum in its tutorials to show you how to do that. They leave the experimenting up to people who want more out of it, similar to old Final Fantasy's. Those had easy strats that worked, but they also allowed for experimentation and deeper understanding to try interesting things and be rewarded for it. A more refined combat focused KH with less Disney would be awesome, but god knows if that'll ever happen

@@YourOldFriend_Darkness I did a video called "Kingdom Hearts 3: Discussion, Defense, and Differentiation" which was mainly a defense of the game's pacing and didn't really touch on combat; I also definitely made it abundantly clear, almost painfully so, that it was just my opinion. I'm fairly sure BB has me confused with a video made by Sunburned Albino called "Just a Rant About Kingdom Hearts 3 NOT Being Disappointing" which is a lot closer to the description he gave in this vid.

i thought it was obvious/probable that they have the drop mechanic with the idea that portable gaming is meant to be played on small chunks; like playing individual stages rather than having a large continued world. but you dont save the game between drops. so why? maybe they didnt like a full playthrough with a single character and thought of a way to play them both at once. and also, made it so you are forced to play as both rather than just letting you choose and maybe play with only one.

Wondered why anyone was playing DDD casually, then saw (no balloon) and made several large, involuntary honks of appreciation. I immediately dismissed balloon as 'some Dumb Shit' and never used it once in my playthrough, it'll be interesting to see someone coming at this from the other side and probably wishing they had balloon.

You don't have to take your finger off the analog stick. I've never once done that and don't think that was intended by the developers. You should be able to easily use your index finger on the D-Pad.

I can see and even relate with people's complaints towards this game, but something I never understood is why people hate the normal combos here, I think they are just fine, waaaay better than BBS. Like sure I prefer kh1 and 2 combos, but these are so inoffensive to me, I really don't get the hate.

Its interesting to hear someone else's take on the game. Like, he absolutely despises DDD. Personally, BBS is my least favorite game and DDD is in my top three favorite games. Practically opposite of BB's opinions, idk why I find that interesting.

Can you do a kh talk on what makes a bad combo? As a aspiring game developer, with a focus on animation, it would be really useful to find out how to make snappy satisfying combat. I want to avoid making the same mistakes that they made here.
@blackghostcat3 жыл бұрын
Heya! I'm currently becoming a game designer, and have been analyzing games a bit more recently. From what I can see, what would make a bad combo is as follows: Longer than needed periods between hits, low damage output, long time to be spent in the air during animations (with this I mean longer windup animations with long endlag animations, also long animations between hits) Also basic hits without any special things like flipping, or multi hits. (Like compare the combo modifiers in kh2, to the basic combos in bbs or ddd) then accompany this with low damage output, and long ending animations for final hits of combos, and sora taking a long time before he reaches the ground... You have bad combos! P.s a swing in a combo does not have to have a lot of animation frames to convey what they are doing! Like think, if it's a 60 fps game, 30 frames of animation per swing is half a second, which sounds fine, but that's a lot of time for just one swing!

@@blackghostcat Thanks, I also think hit stun can play a big part in weather a combo is good or not as well. If you would like to discuss more videos game development, we should talk more. My skills mostly lay in 3d modeling and 2d/3d animation. When it comes to sound design, programing and other things I'm completely out of my depth. I would love to work with some people who do know how to shore up my skills and what not.

@@smackmmk that's also a good point with the "hitstun" statement. I'm also rather new in the industry, as I only very recently started college.
