prateek rai, youre an idiot. Hes one of the best strikers the UFC has ever seen. Even Khabibs DAD said that. Not to mention, Conor was the first ever double champ, has 5+ first round knockouts(including Poirier and Aldo), he has the 2nd fastest KO in UFC history(against Jose Aldo who was undefeated for 10 YEARS until he fought Conor), and Conor only has 2 losses in his entire UFC career. Both by rear-naked-choke. Khabib and Diaz, and he went back and whooped Nate's ass in the rematch. Conor has beat MULTIPLE champions(brutally), Holloway, Aldo, Alvarez, Poirier, etc. For you to say he isnt a good fighter, just shows me that you are working with feelings instead of FACTS. It also shows me that you dont really know anything about MMA. And it makes you a HUGE hater, because even KHABIB'S FATHER said that Conor is the best striker in the LW division. He said "His boxing is really something special". Conor is just one-dimensional. He has NO ground game. But Khabib is also one-dimensional. He has NO stand up game. He sucks at striking. He tried to fight Conor standing up for part of the fight, and he lost that round. The judges gave that round to Conor. So Khabib got smart, and he took Conor back to the mat. Khabib is great at what he does, but hes boring and predictable. He does the same thing every fight. There are no surprises. Its boring.

I'm a believer that to beat the champ, you have to dominate. Conor didn't do anything too special that round. I was more impressed by how he defended the takedowns on the first round. This was a great segment. Chael you are my boy. I have always liked his commentating and have been following his career since he started in the WEC. I have always been biased when it comes to MMA. First off I always root for the American and secondly I always root for wrestlers to which Chael is both. Since he has started focusing on commentating and that type of stuff, he has had some of the most interestimg segments. Sometimes its because of his inside info, sometimes its his unique perspective, and most of the tims it is both. After watching this segment about the Floyd-Conor fight, I immediately rewatched that fight. You are once again almost 100% correct. The judges in that fight should have been sanctioned in some way. How on God's green earth did all 3 judges award the 1st round to Floyd? I am not sure about whether or not Floyd was carrying him (only Floyd knows that), but for only one judge to give one round to Conor is a shame. How could any regulatory oversight in boxing not say something publicly about the judges performance in that fight. EMBARRASSING!!!. I am in no way a Conor fan, quite the opposite. Agreement that Connors vacation takes him out of consideration of a title fight. Dispassionately watch khabib/mcgregor again and see that fight for what it really was. Khabib REALLY had to work to keep connor down and he willingly took the third round off to recover. Reyes/OSP and Ferguson/Pettis were great!

Plus, it is incredibly short sighted to just give him another shot after that long lay off after a very one sided loss.They should be hyping up the other fighters to make them draws. Even the most casual of fans should be excited for a Tony v. Khabib (or Dustin) fight. They should be laying the ground work now, Tony is an incredibly exciting fighter and has an insane record, so pitting him against someone like Khabib or the guy that finally beat Khabib if Dustin wins, is an easy sell. Just do some promos and push them as much as they did Conor. Even if Conor does fight again, I'd be surprised if he does another 5, I think we'll see him fight another 3 times at most. So think long term and build up your other fighters and get more stars out there to bring in PPV buys. I think they know if Conor had to work his way back up that he may not be able to win 2 or 3 more against those top 5 or 10 guys at 155. So will probably wait until Tony gets a shot later this year and then give Conor a shot in the spring. Maybe find a good size/skill matchup for Conor in the meantime if one presents itself.

I also think a factor that needs to be taken in account is the obstacles Khabib and Tony have had to overcome to get their title shots. They both had to fight everyone before given a shot. That from their perspective. They had to earn it, now he has to earn it. And not from popularity but, from a competitive stand point. Right or wrong walking into a title shot is not an option to them. Also love ya Chael but, I think you over estimate that 3rd round. Yes he won it technically but, did he really. Conor fought a different, less experienced Dustin Poirier in 2014, and definitely a VERY different and inexperienced Max Holloway in 2013. Let me remind you we are in 2019 right now Chael. Those 2 guys have improved tremendously over the past few years while Mr. Mcgregor has been on the decline ever since the Floyd fight. You shouldn't be saying "Just how good is Conor", in fact the very opposite "Just how bad has Conor become?" He looked slow, rusty and a shadow of his former self in the Khabib fight. Bisping is right, Mcgregor's stock has and is still on the decline after he started making excuses after excuses as to why he lost the fight, Let's see his leg was a ballon, he focused too much on the ground game, his training camp was too intense and the list goes on. Using fight stats from 5-6 years ago is a very weak argument especially in the fight game where growth is a significant factor.

Man, I don't even like Conor McGregor, but give it a rest with this stuff. Dustin Poirier was 16-3 (8-2 UFC) going into their fight. He had a more respectable record than Conor at the time. He was already a top 10 contender knocking on the door of a title shot, and was well-thought of enough that every hater on Earth was pegging him as the guy who would teach Conor what a 'real UFC fighter' was. The fact that he got taken out in 2 minutes doesn't change that (I mean, his sole blemish at 155 as of right now is an even faster KO to a guy with a much worse record, but nobody is talking about his inexperience for THAT fight). He was not some doe-eyed neophyte getting his first taste of the UFC. Max...maybe they didn't have high expectations for him (although he was already experienced at fighting vets), but acting like Dustin wasn't on his game is pure revisionist history. Obviously, Dustin and Max (and Conor) are different fighters NOW, and there's no guarantee we'd have the same results if we had rematches, but that's true of literally every fighter to have ever fought, and every fight to have taken place. Conor is definitely in a worse place now, too big to not main event a PPV, and all PPV main events have to be for a title, so he CAN'T 'work his way back up' and fix his mindset/holes in his game against opponents a tier below the champ even if he wanted to. I do agree his best days are behind him. But this doesn't affect how good he WAS.

I usually agree with most things Chael says, but he's way off about the Floyd-Conor fight here. Floyd was visibly toying with him and carried him to the later rounds. Plus, Conor was allowed to rabbit-punch throughout the fight. 6 rounds for Conor? That's one of the most ridiculous claims I've heard regarding a fighting contest.

I love you Chael but let me tell you why I disagree... Firstly, McGregor has never ever defended a belt... not even once... You can't tell me that's not something we can hold against his legacy because the mindset of defending a belt is different than going in to a fight knowing that essentially you have nothing to lose... Secondly, Mayweather absolutely kept Conor in the fight... It just doesn't look like it because he built a career of 12 round fights going to the scorecards... that's what makes Floyd so great... He's a defensive boxer and if he goes out and flattens Conor in the first round that does nobody any favours... People will say the argument you made of the 50th not counting is legitimate because the fight was a joke... he did that to keep his legacy intact... Corrupt scorecard claims aside... that's nothing new in boxing... Thirdly, let's take the cross champion sport argument in to account... lets have Brooks Koepka who is a 4 time champion in golf and make him play 5 sets of tennis against Roger Federer... Extreme example absolutely but Federer is going to utterly destroy Koepka... If Federer doesn't want Koepka to win a point against him then he won't... That's just the way it is... Finally, He beat Holloway and Poirier that's true... But I'm not so sure Conor has improved as a fighter as much as Max and Dustin and I think if he fought them both again then we are talking about different results... But that's my opinion and you have yours and I respect that!

Chael is messing up the tenses here. It's not just how good is Conor, it's just how good Conor was. You can't judge a guy based on what he did 3 years back. At least not in this sport. A lot has changed ever since. He's got to come back and prove himself again.
