From Duran Duran (1981) DVD. This is the original version, not the one that appeared on the 1983 video album. It's got all the cheesy bits they were (and probably still are) embarrassed by then. ;)
So soon just after you've gone my senses sharpened
But it always takes so damn long before I feel
how much my eyes have darkened
Fear hangs a plane of gunsmoke drifting in our room
So easy to disturb, with a thought with a whisper
With a careless memory with a careless memory
On the table signs of love lies scattered
And the walls break with a crashing within
It's not as though as though you really mattered
But being close how could I let you go without some feeling
Some precious sympathy following
Fear hangs a plane of gunsmoke drifting in our room
So easy to disturb, with a thought with a whisper
With a careless memory with a careless memory
With a careless memory with a careless memory
Oh I walk out into the sun I tried to find a new day
But the whole place it just screams in my eyes
Where are you now cause I don't want to meet you
I think I'd die I think I'd laugh at you I know I'd cry
What am I supposed to do follow you
Outside the thoughts come flooding back now
I just try to forget you
So easy to disturb with a thought with a whisper
With a careless memory with a careless memory
With a careless memory with a careless memory
With a careless memory
Look out look out look out look out

"I think I'd die. I think I'd laugh at you." He means it. Listen to the emphasis in his voice. Got to be channeling a real-life experience. No one can fake it like that. His dancing is odd, but that bloke can sing.

You are correct. It's hard to believe how young they were to put out an album this great. Tel Aviv is so mature it could've been written by Yoda. It's unbelievable to me how critics used to trash them and say that they couldn't play. Nigel Taylor is a stellar bass player!

Andy wasnt edited in this version!!! The single that flopped- yet probably their best. Raw, edgy, unique- total Duran. Was so unlike anything around at that time, and in fact theres never been anything like it since. Combines rock, punk and electronic in a frantic style- brilliant.

Duran Duran had a great sound, a stylish look that matched their music, and never got enough credit for their musicianship and songwriting skills. Yes, they were a band with attractive members and legions of pre-teen and teenage fans. Yes, they were music video pioneers and, like many other '80s bands, their early videos catapulted them to fame. But if you listen to their music, their music and lyrics were much darker and much more adult than their teenage fanbase let on (and some of their music videos were certainly not meant for kids).

Duran is mysteriously missing from some 80s best of bands list. To sound 'cool' (ok they also had really good output) always notice Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Smiths...DD was influential and huge during the 80s. I know their not everyone's taste, but it is a glaring omission not to see them more often on certain lists

I was one of the "teenyboppers" that worshiped them back in the 80s and I still love this band. Yes, they were "cute" but for me, it was always about the music. Through them, I discovered other artists like T-Rex. Plus now that I'm much older, I appreciate the musicianship and the songwriting much more than I could at the age of 14.

Duran Duran has always had this COOLNESS FACTOR about them and caught my attention as a young boy (about five or six years old) in 1982. This was the "Gateway Band" for me as a young child. I should have taken it one step further and begged my parents for guitar lessons so that by the time I hit my teens, I could have been an established Musician (who was HEAVILY INFLUENCED by Duran Duran). This Band will ALWAYS MEAN SOMETHING SPECIAL TO ME; I do not say that about too many Artists or Bands EITHER.

I outgrew them after "Rio," moved on to more serious music, and hadn't listened to them much until the remastered versions of their early albums came out a few years ago. When I heard those albums, I was blown away by how great they sounded. The production and songwriting were solid. Back in the '80s, a few girls at my school met John while he was shopping and told him that they used to like DD but were into bands like Siouxsie and Japan because of DD, and he was very gracious about it.

Why are they not in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame?

BerlinFan82 because RRHOF is controlled by idiots who are totally oblivious to 80s new wave and MOST British Bands in General. But they have inducted talentless cRAP artists. So it is a total sham in my opinion.

Iv been saying it for years Duran Duran they certainly desverve it nearly 40yrs in the business there talent and preserverance has paid off and still pulling in the crowds in packed stadiums brilliant there a very underated group they should be in the music hall of fame years ago i love Duran Duran cant wait for the release of their new album.

Certainly. Since the release of this track in 1983, I've been listening to, practically at least once a day, not bored yet, first on vinyl disc, then on cassette tape, then on CD (in my home). Glad to know that you've chosen 'Careless Memories' as Duran Duran's "best track".

One of the New Romantic style big Anthem. We looked so brilliantly original on those days. As a daughter of the European New Romantic movement we were such a daring inventive and creative youth....

Stills from this were the inner cover artwork of the first album. The band round the table behind Simon...so young, like a snapshot of happier simpler times of youth

When played in its live incarnation with Andy back in 2003-2005, it made a solid argument for being the band's best song overall.
