Another magnificent performance from Duran Duran on "Top Of The Pops" and what a great song "Careless Memories" is. WHY OH WHY this song stumbled at #37 on the UK pop charts, I just don't understand. However their next single "Girls On Film" peaked at #5 on the UK pop charts, and we all know what happened after that!! Yes indeed, Duran Duran became one of the greatest pop groups of the '80s.

Adam Hepburn "careless memories" was not the choice second single of the band ..friends of mine was there choice ...although " running blind" track never came to fluishion.

Totps had to be mimed, it was a weekly show so many acts , it had to be that way , one act on one act off ,no time for sound checks and changing instruments .as long as you see your fave band on the show and they get there song across to tv ordiance! Everyone was happy

One of their best songs if not the best DD song ever made. They could have capitalised in this and become massive in this genre but instead they gave way to being part of the commercialised machine.

My favourite Duran song too (with Planet Earth a close second) - absolutely loved it when it came out and always preferred (and still prefer) it to Girls On Film. Because it was EMI's choice (not the band's) for 2nd single and it peaked at only number 37 in the UK charts, whereas Girls On Film peaked at number 5, i guess the band felt vindicated in their single choices, but i think EMI were right with this as it is the better song, although obviously it was a flop commercially for some reason. Also, I think the lyrics are SLB's best, along with Ordinary World. The band play it so often live though and they know it is a fan favourite, so thats good.

@1087shotwell almost all totp performances were mimed, of course the music isn't live. though if you're implying i took the studio cut and spliced it on top to improve sound quality - while i appreciate the compliment that the audio is good, i'm not that talented/can't be bothered trying to sync that all up. this is just taken from a dvd. :)

Andy is there, he just has short blond hair, just like Nick had dark hair instead of the bleached look of classic Duran. Their look was still evolving at that time.
