Soi Rambuttri..amongst other spaces...the real gems of the area. @ 12:09...legendary "Jok" street stall on the right there.

That's the name I always forget. I believe that's where we were when the kids were break dancing. I still prefer a more mellow Phrom Phong, but it's good to go check out this area a few times a year. We've been spending a lot of time in the newish Soi Nana in Chinatown. Brown Sugar moved over there a year ago or so. Nice area.

Fun episode. My family and I enjoyed eating at a restaurant 2:54 (on the left) about a year and-a-half ago. Although it was around midnight, my young kids weren’t tired because it was during the first evening of our arrival. To them, it felt like it was noon because of the 12 hour time zone difference. We enjoyed watching some break dancers right from our table while eating. The food was great, plenty of street action, and wonderful memories. You are correct by mentioning that the streets a block/soi over from Khao San Road are even better.

It's a change from other parts of BKK. That's a good thing. I like to see everything.

Khao -san area definitely is a lot of fun to explore. Best of both worlds.

You’ve been to 800 countries? Awesome that is
@EagerExpat10 сағат бұрын
No, I said a 100 countries. At least I stopped counting at 80 and that was a long time ago. I'm sure I've been to over 20 more. Maybe I said 800 cities? I can't remember. Still. there a reason I decided to move to BKK instead of Mexico City, etc.. This place is great

Went there last month for first time. Just as you said, bars across from each other trying to play louder music and have crazier dancers. They all have so many promoters trying to get you to stop. Complete madhouse but an experience everyone needs to do once. The craziest thing were the outdoor foot massage places right next to loudest bars. Who would ever want to get a massage next to that?

Ya it's a little crazy. That's ok. The kids need a place to party. I'll stick to Phrom Phong

Pre-2020 shutdowns there was a good live music bar across from buddy lodge, but they shut down and reopened as a mother standard khaosan bar apparently. For a quieter stop on Khaosan, buddy beer is one choice, no loud music and the food and drinks are better than most on the strip. Next street over (Soi Rambuttrie) is busier than it used to be, but quieter than Khaosan. The extension of Rambuttrie on the other side of the 2 way street at the end ( I forget the name) is quieter still, but still has bars and restaurants to chill at.

Yes the Soi Rambuttrie is the area I like. Still, it's good to see the kids having a good party on Khaosan. If I was 18, I'd be right there with them.

I went to kaosan once. I got one beer from 711 walked around and left. It just wasn’t for me as I am not into electronics music.

There a few rock clubs and a comedy club too. But, I agree, mostly EDM music. Not my scene

Khao San has been ruined by vendors, it was not enjoyable but I found the surrounding streets to be great. I don't know how long ago it was a hippie backpacker paradise but I would guess maybe the 80's?
@EagerExpatКүн бұрын
I think it was really popular with the backpackers in the 60's. Old school

@@EagerExpat I stayed there in 1984, it only had two Chinese hotels and one or two guesthouses. Prior to that the whole street was full of rice wholesalers, hence the name Khao San. Early eighties was the start of the shift from Soi Ngam Duphli, off Rama 4 Rd, that was the ‘60’s hippy area and the area Charles Sobhraj, drugged and killed his victims.

@@asiandetective4998 Good intel. I was also in BKK for only two days in 1984. We stayed near Patpong. I remember hearing about the serial killer. I think from a Bangkok Pat video. It's funny, when you graduated high school like me in 1984, that doesn't seem that long ago. Ha ha. I rounded down to the 60's

Aren’t most of your subscribers a little too old to still be interested in Khao San road? Young KZbinrs have done this to death. It’s a shell of its former self and we’ve all been there done that. You’re all tuning out of material😂

Like I said in the video. the streets around Khao San are still fun. I can take or leave Khao San itself. But, I love the older part of the city
