With everything that's going on in Ukraine right now, this one piece simply can't stop playing in my mind. Might peace reach all of us soon enough.

Not many pianists are prepared to take The Great Gate so slowly. And Khatia is so unpredictable, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that she only made that decision as she reached that part of the music. Technically unsurpassable and artistically wonderful. What great pianists there are around today - Khatia among them - and how lucky we all are to have KZbin to share some of their dazzling performances.

Slowly? Not that I've heard that many interpretations, but this is faster than all the ones I have heard, unless maybe if you count Keith Emerson, lol.

It's funny how the original piano version sounds like a lightweight transcription of the orchestral version, thanks to Ravel's amazing orchestration.

On Dec 2002, at the age of 18, I got my degree as a piano teacher after 10 years. I remember as if it were today when I finished my exam with this score, so beautiful (and so difficult!) I don't think I'll ever be able to play the piano like this ever again :). Because of my professional career, I never played again. After listening to you, I really wanted to start studying again. Thanks Khatia.

After listening to her overwhelming incomparable performance , I might have a dream It's a dream of Mussorgsky walking in the crowds of Russia , talking to his late friend . That dream is the ultimate in bliss for me that deeply love and respect and long for Mussorgsky , After listening to her unsurpassed and exquisite performance , I might have a dream of Mussorgsky , I am a person who believes in reincarnation and the immortality of the soul I was certainly seeing Mussorgsky on the street corner of Moscow . From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵

Back in business wonderful performers to bring the music in every city square and celebrate together the Renaissance spirit, we are lucky survivors and we need only good music to help us carry on this new redemption feeling, never let any evil dare to harm you, since the Mussorgski vision.. Kiev was this great, graceful and majestic, yeah, some big bosses rulers of the world might get very envious and lose their minds about it

I attempted this piece in high school, probably a mistake, but I loved it so much, I talked my teacher into letting me play it at a competition. I wish KZbin was available back in the early 80s, if I had known I could have taken so many liberties with the tempo, I probably would have performed it better. At 16/17 though, you pretty much stick to the metronome. Still, I love her modern interpretation of the piece. She builds up the tension so well throughout it's nothing short of awe-inspiring when those last chords are heard.
@hanleyk2 жыл бұрын
The metronome nearly ruined me while studying classical guitar. After graduation 1990, I didn’t touch a guitar for nearly 5 years.

Hello fan. Recently,I made up my mind to reach out to some of my fan here on KZbin. I made out time to go through the comment section in my official KZbin channel and also some of the channels created by my fans and I’ve seen a whole lot of fans who have been showering me with lots of love and support. I decided to create a more private account just to reach out to my dear fans due to the fact that my official accounts are being handled by my management. I couldn’t just scroll pass your beautiful comment without appreciating your support over the years. I must say it gladdens my heart to know I have fans like you. I would really love to know more about you. Thanks for being such a devoted fan. Much love ❤️❤️from me to you dear fan.
