Fact: Not all "coloured" people are decedents of the khoisan. Many including myself do not think of the term coloured as being derogatory. In fact, I identify myself as a "coloured" and so do so many others, not particularly as a race but because of the culture and the way we grew up. The way we identify ourselves. If there is any khoisan in me it is a very small percentage, and I am very proud of that ancestry, but the majority of me is all coloured. Its the way I think, the ideas, customs, and our social behaviour. Yes, I respect the plight of the khoisan people and yes they deserve to be recognized as the first indiginous people of South Africa, but so do all people including the "coloured" people. We are 100% South African.

The men raped the local native women, and they the Khoisan went further upwards, because they were hunter-gathers. So, as the Dutch men raped the local women, what was the outcome? The outcome was coloured (people of colour). That's why coloured people use Dutch name and surnames, because their great-grandfathers were from the Netherlands. The Xhosa people were living with the Khoisan side by side when the Dutch settlers came in, why did they preserve their culture and language up till this very day, and the Coloured preserved "Afrikaans"? Afrikaans is Flemish (Dutch). A child falls into which side of the family? If your father is German, and your mother is Kenyan, what does it make you? German, right? Of course some people can say, that I am half German and Kenyan, but we know that children take the father's side of the family.

I'm from South Africa, it's not that simple. Coloured people in South Africa are the most mixed group in the world. Some might not even be Khoi. They are European, Asian, Black and Khoi. The term coloured is not derogatory here. They are very proud to be called colored, because they do not see themselves as white, black or Khoi. It's so complex.

The reporter and Khoesan chief totally look like the same race to me. And I'm South African by the way. Identifying all coloureds as Khoisan would be misleading though because not all of them have Khoisan ancestry and even those that do, do not only have Khoisan ancestry but also European, Bantu and Malay ancestry. In fact some are completely Malay&White or Malay & Bantu ancestry, so that would be mislabelling them. The Khoisan look distinct from coloured people because of their hair (which is very tightly coiled and nappy compared to most coloured who have silky hair due to their European and Asian admixture

@A Sass unlike African americans who are still pretty much african (over 75% ), the coloured are hardly 50% Khoisan and it's almost exclusively on their mother's side. They also have a lot of bantu, asian and Indian ancestry. In SA, Bantu also have considerable Khoisan ancestry, while african americans are the only ones with considerable african ancestry, the comparison doesn't make sense

@A Sass first of all are you sure you're DNA test is accurate? I can varry according to the company's samples. Now even if it's true, you're an individual, you don't represent northern or western coloured as a whole. Most of them have way less khoisan admixture, you probably have direct khoisan ancestry, all genetic studies suggest than coloured even from the North are more mixed. Check this one, one or two North Cape coloured are predominantly khoisan(like 60%) but the others are not more than 40%.Im not even talking about Cape Malay, I know they are predominantly asian journals.plos.org/plosgenetics/article/figures?id=10.1371/journal.pgen.1003309

The Khoisan can be regarded as being separate to the Coloureds, much like the Germans being regarded as separate to the Afrikaners, in Namibia. In South Africa the Germans are often regarded as being part of the Afrikaners. Germans in South Africa could have a somewhat similar movement. The Coloureds can then basically just be descendants of the slaves that were brought from elsewhere.
