One foot of water is enough. Your own tires will help the buoyancy and with a couple feet of water you got your own "boat". The only problem is the steering is difficult since you don't have a rudder. Straight to the point; don't freaking do it.

I feel like that'd incentivize people trying to escape on their own, such as by jumping into the water to swim to shore. While that may work, the waters are likely much stronger than they appear and would look to unnecessary deaths. It's unnecessary for him to be out there like that, but the focus should be on helping him out as they did rather than penalizing the behavior, imo.

Why do people insist on driving through water that is more than 6" deep? As soon as it gets deeper, turn around and go back. If you know your freeways and streets tend to flood during storms, stay off the roadways period. I'd purchase a raft, kayak, or small boat if i lived in such areas and put my vehicles up on higher ground. I have a thing about living too close to water and flood zones. And these people who do not need to be on the road or driving thru water more than 6" high should be charged for these rescues unless you can prove you had an emergency.

Many years ago I was directing traffic at Katy fwy service road and Post Oak and just north of the intersection the roadway was flooded a few feet deep.Well one young lady insisted she had to go north through the high water even after I informed her it not possible to to traverse the road. Well she had to go and a short time later the same lady came back and tried to tell me I needed to help her get her car out of the roadway. I tried to be as diplomatic as possible and informed her I was assigned to be in the intersection and could not leave but I could call for a wrecker service for her….she was not happy with me.

Water gets deeper in a matter of seconds. Even the reporter said it probably wasn't very deep when he first drove through. Flash floods are terrifying. In San Antonio several years ago, a lady saw flood water across a street in front of her. She turned into a parking lot to turn around but the water rose so quickly it swept her car away out of the parking lot. Maybe this guy can't swim. He rolled up his pants legs like he was going to attempt to walk out. That water has a strong current. And, there can be anything in it, snakes or debris.

I live in Houston and everyone knows not be on Hwy 288 when heavy rains fall. It always fills up with water up to the 16-20 ft overpasses! He could have waded through the water to the embankment like everyone else did who ignored the warnings about Hwy 288! You can plainly see the water is not even over the hood. I used to live in the apartments next to this highway. I was always amused by the number of people who drove down into that submerged section of that highway and ended up swimming to the embankment or sitting on top of the car like this idiot!

Seems like Houston could save time, money and lives by monitoring the bayou levels and shutting these known low level roads down, before the overflow. Like put up barricades to block access to these areas.

Taking a risk to either empress your employer, or trying to make a few extra "bucks" ain't worth the hassle, the time being stranded, the money needed to repair your vehicle, and or the danger of loosing your life. Turn around don't drown. And use your "dome", stay at home.

I honestly don't have any remorse for those that still continue to get stuck after being told, warned, and have access to every bit of information that a damn hurricane is headed their way in an area that is notorious for flooding.

Turn around don't drown. If you don't know how to swim, learn. Never bad to have a flotation device & a long rope with you, when a hurricane is coming. Be prepared!

What? A Texan getting stuck in his big ole pickup? Must have forgotten his cape getting dressed this morning. Superheroes who forget the cape just shouldn't go near water, no matter how big their pickup.

If those trucks had the upgraded snorkel kit. And maybe weighted tires to. The air tire isn't good for driving on the bottom. It causes hydroplaning They could drive through that with ease with some upgrades. The cab still probably would get flooded but you would have to upgrade your seals and everything to make it more water tight. But not with standard vehicles once that engine hiccups it pulls water in and that's it. They generally seize up at that point
