Guitarist and drummer were band mates at their church. Incidentally, it's the same church that Beyonce attended while growing up in Houston, TX. The bassist Laura Lee was a school teacher when she met the guitarist Mark Speer, who taught her to play bass. She wasn't confident to play publicly, but Mark assured her that she would do great. She did, and in no time quit her teaching job and joined Mark's band along with drummer 'DJ' Johnson. They pull influences from almost every music genre, and then fuse it with psychadelic overtones. Their music is definitely a vibe, and perfect for driving mixes. Along the same lines is a music genre called 'desert noir' and the band Still Corners is worth a listen if you like this type of music. If no one else has mentioned it, the name Khruangbin is the word 'airplane' in Thai. Great reaction. For a little more upbeat energy, check out any live version of 'People Everywhere (Still Alive)', but especially the one they recorded live for the BBC.
