As a confused young woman who is struggling with the oppression that culture makes women go through especially in muslim communities this khutbah answers a lot of my questions and I feel a lot at peace now. I cannot thank Allah enough for making me grow up in a Muslim household with a true and perfect religion. May Allah strengthen our Iman and guide us to the right path.

A lot of sisters are confused because they only see the worst of their own culture. but here's the bigger problem sisters have, (brothers too suffer this in a different way). You do not lower your gaze to the entertainment culture of the disbelievers and so you watch music and watch shows, TV and listen to videos, tally up the hours. You're spending most your lives essentially giving your ear and by extension your heart to the disbelievers and then you wonder why roles in Islam make you uncomfortable. You become critical to Islamic values, or the recommendations of islam because it doesn't sit right with your heart. But it doesn't sit right with your heart because without reading a single book on western values/ethics, through everything you consume, you're essentially adopting the fundamental values and beliefs that the west hold about life. Essentially you are what you consume both literally and figuratively. Whe you have not learnt or have firm rooting in your aqeedah you won't even notice it being replaced and then you think islam has the issue when infact you hold many western beliefs regarding men and women uncritically. Yet are willing to criticise the islamic viewpoint from a morally confused western ethic without even knowing so. Ofcourse the "you" here refers to all of us and not actually you who I'm responding to. But just some food for thought.

its true that there is a war on gender in the West. Anytime a society gets a plague if this nature, it is a precursor to its demise. Women need to be protected from this feminist propaganda as the effects it has is striking - the nasty behaviour of young non-muslim women in the West has given rise to entire movements such as passport bros or red pill, as their women have become oppressive and intolerable, let alone for the streets, especially of they don’t believe in a God and act according to their desires. The more we get influenced by modern culture without being mindful of the source or intent, the more confused we will get. And this is especially true for women.

I think that were Islam to treat men and men in the SAME manner, then the women would still have to pray despite having their period, or they would still have to fast despite being in late pregnancy, which is impossible for the former, and difficult for the latter to do. But alhamdulillah, Islam understands this gender differences, and treated us appropriately

May Allah bless you! This dua is right from the bottom of my heart. Thankyou for one of the most balanced khutba I've ever come across. I HAVE TO SAY,when you acknowledged the ordeals of women in general and addressed how many countries and societies in general favour men more(which definitely ALLAH Doesn't) I as a women felt so heard,seen and validated that it got me tearful.

Gender role is winding around motherhood and jihad.. I expected some more. There is no gender difference in achieving education, in performing familial duties, in participating social development and in dedicating one’s life for just cause. There is no difference between a male doctor and a female doctor. The different task is different only in performing reproductive responsibilities, which encompasses only a part of human life. If a man can be a bread winner and woman can also be the same. No one can say that woman cannot earn, and spend for family. It is good to know that both men and women will be rewarded for their good deeds. The difference is it is not incumbent on women. I like his last notion”gender role is not obligatory “ There is room for negotiation, very important for take home message
@fesall323

If you heart doesn't like what islam had to say then it's not islam that's the issue but the nafs. Allah already has said in the Quran to paraphrase, there are things you may not like but Allah knows that they are better for us. What did you expect? that someone says something on islam and it must fit perfectly with what we expect or desire ? or maybe what the dominant capitalist consumer driven society today does? At the crux these are all issues of iman and an inability to submit to the divine. This is just food for thought, don't down play reproductive difference's significance. Literally every mammal we can see that gender has in some aspects quite significant impact on the way in which male and the female exist within their social structure and the role they play. Do not kid yourself and say humans are any different in this regard Allah did not make women bread winners by default, its not that there isn't flexibility, there is. But to deny that islam makes clear a recommendation on men and not women, then this is plain foolishness. Allah's messenger clearly said a man is a shepherd if his family and a wife is a shepherd to her husbands home and children. Men and women's role do not stop being different at reproduction, a mother and a father are not interchangeable in a child's life, mothers have a very different impact and influence on a child than a father. This is why she has a higher status if there Was no difference a woman's status wouldn't be three times higher than the father. A fathers impact is also significant, but its the impact of a father and not of a mother and that's the point. Do not deny what is clear as the sun. Even on a biological level the entire body of a women, and hormonal balance, muscle composition, brain function etc is all in some ways different then a man. Reproductive capacity significantly alters the male and female bodies in many ways. Naturally motherhood is always going to completely alter the roles of any species because reproduction biologically is the most important thing. But even islamically motherhood is extremely important and not interchangeable, women who work at the expense of their children when they don't need to, do so at the expense of the children's tarbiyyah. They essentially trade in the potential good influence, in favor of personal individualistic desire and money which is the at the heart of Liberal ethic (putting self made goods as the most important goals before anyone else). What then happens is that the child is instead given to the state and the state now is incharge of shaping your child's worldview, to tell them how and what to think, to teach them who they are and set for them expectations on what life should be. The state which is a form of secular Christian theology which deifies being monetarily productive citizens for the state above anything else. This is capitalist society for you, and this is not the society islam envisions. Objectively community is broken in the west, basic family structure is broken, marriages are a failure, the don't even reproduce in the west any more, add to that women's succes in their personal career correlates highly with the likelihood they will be single later on in life. These are stats from the very western way we seek but instead our nafs questions islam but islam seeks to build community of strong believers which requires a different mindset

Out of interest is there a default position in Islam say if half way through a marriage both husband and wife can't come to any agreement on roles in their marriage? Overtime dynamics in a marriage can change. It seems from this lecture that there isn't a prescribed back stop but something that is recommended. Also when he mentions 'recommended' who's recommended it? Scholars, the prophet pbuh or Allah SWT.

Unfortunately Shayk Yq if anything is known for his ambiguitiy. He is ambiguous in so many matters. People are often left to fill in blanks from their own perspective which defeats the purpose of turning to a scholar. Recommendation is look to repeatable scholar and not a daee

13:25 Your argument on how it doesn't make sense for a doctor or accountant to want to switch tasks and use it justify gender roles is weak. In this case, doctor is more qualified than accountant and vice-versa due to training and choice. Theoretically if they were also trained in the other field, there would be no reason to prevent them doing the job of the other. Feminists who make the argument against fixed gender roles will say that certain women are better or at the very least on par with doing tasks that are typically performed by men and they should have the choice to do them if they are qualified to do so. Likewise, certain women are terrible at tasks that are usually associated with women so they are going to be less productive and less happier members of society. The analogy is very weak.
@zaeemk8897
@zaeemk8897 2 жыл бұрын
The analogy was comparing a 5-year training period as compared to centuries of societal evolution. And the point was to show a fixed skillset can not be applied in fields on which you are not trained to do. Yes, as a doctor and accountant, you can interchange and just learn the other skill, but it passes considering the ways male and female are different scientifically, which he elaborated at the start of the lecture. As for the second point, he did consider and account for exceptions and stated that he was generalizing. Yes certain women are on par or better at certain tasks designed for men and vice versa, but this is generally untrue. Dr Yasir also said later in the video that these roles (for the most part) are not obligatory. Just my interpretation, hope this helped.
@fesall323

A few problems with the feminist argument, in the end it doesn't necessarily make women happier because feminists from their eurocentric materialist worldview cannot in any concrete fashion tell you what makes a woman happy who doesn't share her world view and assumptions. Moreover the bar from women seems to ironically be men. you can't train a woman to beat most men in a test of physical strength. You simply can't train a man to carry a baby or breastfeed it. You can't more importantly tell the father of a child, " from now on you will be the mother I will be the father " it's absurd. Lastly feminists are confused usually kuffar from confused ethical grounding, I mean from their naturalistic worldview I think it's very hard given observation of nature and history to argue equality between anyone never mind equality between genders. Why ought anyone seek equality and what evidence do we have doe the virtue of equality, certainly nature does not operate on notions of equality. This could obviously be developed alot further but you get the point
