@@Aboutkoi The Ki Matsuba is doing well, however as for the growth rate it has slowed down a bit but it is growing. I have not actually measured it, though by looking at it is would say that it is about Ten Inches and he has not had for a Year yet. When I got it for my Dad it was less than Seven Inches which was about August last year. Thankyou. You are welcome Sir. 😊👍 Take care.

@@ultimatefishkeeping great! Well emasuring it oftenly is not a good thing to do if you ask me. Only uncessary stress for your Koi. Better to do it only when required!

My gin rin ki matsuba had a beautiful yellow head, yellow and white on the sides of it, black down the spine. Now its head is turning white. Why? :( its not sick at all, just color is fading. My koi was the color of the koi at 1:44 in this video. Its still very young, only 6-7" long.

That is a very, very nice light colour. Perhaps it is growing quickly, so the colours become a bit lighter? Normally that doesn't happen to yellow Koi as far as I know... I am not sure what you can do about it

I have a ki matsuba that I bought when it was very small and it was very beautiful until it developed big shimis. I am hoping the shimi will get smaller in comparison to it’s size as it grows but I am not sure this will happen lol

Ahh that's too bad. I hate it when shimis appear out of nowhere. The chance is not so high that it will disappear again completely. When you are lucky and your water is soft it might disappear in summer... But the changes are small unfortunately 😢. Hope you can still enjoy it thoguh!

@@Aboutkoi I noticed something VERY strange today. I am doing a complete pond rebuild and I moved my koi to an above ground pool i put together as a holding tank. The ki matsuba with several large shimis went back to looking a lot more lighter and golden and many of the black spots disappeared within a few days!

If there is sumi under the skin, it will come up with age correct? Or is that a rule for other types of koi? Will the grey sumi on its head come thru? My wife loves them with lots of black, we bought a pretty one but shes disappointed that there isnt a lot of black. I told her, all those light grey spots will come up black. Am i right? I hope so lol

Oftenly, yes sumi does come up over time. What I have often seen here in the Netherlands is that many Ki Matsuba become a bit darker over time. When they have greyish areas visible on their head, usually this becomes darker - it doesn't look so nice in my opinion. When a Matsuba is light coloured over the entire body, then yes it will normally become darker over the years. But you never know in the end 😊

Ki matsuba is a breed which never appealed to me even once. But that said, maintaining a vivid yellow color that does not turn orange can usually be achieved by soft to semi-soft water pond frequently exposed to open sunlight (or at least that is effective for Izumiya's yellow ogons).

You are so right about the soft water. The softer the water is, the easier it is to keep the yellow color nice and light. In harder water, i've seen it with my own eyes happen more than once, yellow can become orange so quickly

What has light (Hikarimono) is Kin Matsuba. Is the mistake spreading because of this post? You better correct it now and make an announcement, because it could spread like GOROMO and be irreversible.
