Carnival is a very honest car. Pre -pandemic I had to deliver a training course to a group of people, we were driving in a rented one for 2.500 km all around rural NSW for a week, five adults plus full luggage. The perfect car for the job, strong enough, smooth driving, very convenient. I found even consumption very reasonable considering the size of the vehicle.

Ideally, you should have a raise and lower system. When loading grandma, you lower. When going down the well paved it can be normal height. When the conditions require it, you raise it and don't go 120k.
@stephensmith20273 жыл бұрын
I actually like that it isn't pretending to be an SUV - lower centre of gravity means less wallowing in the corners. I take your point that AWD would be a good option but for most people I wouldn't think that is necessary.
@tspshilt Жыл бұрын
As I understand it, it is specifically the lack of AWD that allows for the deep tub that the third row folds in to. This is in comparison to the Hyundai Staria which is basically the same platform, it has AWD when paired with diesel, but you lose the fold down third row.

John, just on the false positives with the collision warning system... My 2019 Mazda 3 has gotten a lot better over time. I can't find any information on the system, but considering the changes to the way it drives semi-autonomously (start-stop + lane keep assist) and the false positives over the 24,000km I've done so far, I believe it to be a learning system. Now, it almost never gives a false positive and the semi-autonimous driving has become much more smooth and intuitive. Given the evidence presented to me, I think these systems learn over time. Thanks for the video!

John I’m chuckling at another brilliant entertaining video. When I emigrated to NZ in 2006 I wasted money on Toyotas, Subarus and since bought Range Rovers and Mercedes. My wife sensibly made me buy Kia Carnival Limiteds. They’ve been fantastic. Now with 4 kids, we’ve had diesels and found that the V6 Suited us best. I’m convinced that the best family wagon on the market. As much as I love range Rovers the practicality and comfort of the top spec `carnivals are much better value than the max 5 Seater Rangey.

JC, is it just the camera angle, or is the 20-20 FO logo printed on that shirt off centre? On another note, I carry a full size spare when towing the caravan with our CX-9. Not only is the space saver crap and limited for speed, it's also limited for distance and - wait for it - only to be used on the rear wheels! Add all those restrictions together, throw in a couple of public holidays with no tyre shops open (like we're blessed with this weekend) and it's a recipe for the kids setting new car-counting records at the roadside whilst you wait for whatever help you can muster.

Ever time i would overtake a car, when i pulled back into the left lane, a few car lengths ahead of the car I'd just passed, it's Rear collision warning would go apeshit. I'm guessing the rear sensor was just looking directly straight back. "No car in lane, No car in lane" then when you pull back in "HOLYSHIT A CAR! WHERE DID THAT COME FROM!?"

"Club Seating" not available down under? I can't seem to find where it IS available. I looked at US spec'd (hope that passes punctuation muster) vehicles and see we get "lounge seating" with recline and large thigh support...irrelevant to hauling children. Might have to check what the poverty package 2022 Carnival offers here in America. Had there been "reversible" seats in row 2, I think that's a far superior design for small children as a safety offering and heck, in military aircraft we traditionally rode "backwards" as a practical arrangement. Maybe in 2023.
@dennislaur25153 жыл бұрын
The stand up seats being removed is a big negative in my books. It has made our life much easier with two special needs children. If the rotating seats are available in Canada, it would just as helpful. I appreciate your comments regarding the switch gear. As a geek, that's the sort of thing that I notice and often lament even in "premium products". I am curious about the decision to go with the rotary control for the transmission. Is this just for interior packaging efficiency? Does it allow for a common SKU for LHD and RHD variants? I am sure it is nice, but the shifter in the current model Kia Seltos feels and operates so well that I feel they could have just stuck with that formula.

The result was, the software folks ended up having to add an "are you really really sure" thing to the one place it mattered. This did not amuse the users a whole lot but people stopped stomping on the important thing because they were trained to click the "OK" for the warnings.

22:15 Imminent collision warning has another downside - not sure how it is in Oz currently, but some cars in the US have an automatic emergency braking tied to the system, so the car will automatically apply full braking in all its ABS joy - all completely autonomously. This has included plenty of times when there was absolutely nothing in front of us, but there was a risk of a collision because the car behind was about to climb in the boot after we suddenly (and without obvious reason) applied absolute pants-wetting emergency panic braking. So my in-laws have turned it off, deeming it safer that way (and they're likely correct, at least in some instances), but which also rather negates the so-called "safety" of having the system.
@geoffreyveale77153 жыл бұрын
My 2020 Kia Cerato GT (Oz version) has auto emergency braking (AEB) and have done about 15,000km. During this time it has only once very briefly activated for no apparent reason. On about three occasions it has activated when the car in front was turning onto a side street and the car did not understand that the vehicle in front was doing a turn and therefore would not present a collision hazard by the time I reached that location. My experience is that it is a good thing. Older cars may perform worse as tech tends to improve with time. Also, the systems do need to be carefully calibrated and have a clean windscreen to operate correctly.

Ironic. To keep a seatbelt buzzer to shut ANCAP up, we lose the ability to have seats face backward-which is probably the safest way to travel.

I know. It is fucked up.

Love your videos, but am I seeing a trend of your shilling for the KIA brand? Have you got an open commercial relationship with the brand.

18:40. In the UK on motorway cum highways we’ve been banned from changing our own tyre and must wait for the highway wombles. So there is that. I’m loving on this vehicle I’d never own as a family of 3. Nice white good mover. Nice thing.

I did not know that - about the regulations for flat tyres up there in the Motherland...

@@AutoExpertJC I didn't even know it myself before read the driving bible, essential skills for driving ( driving instructor book ); nobody knows this either !!!

One thought came to mind in regards to the spare tyre, could the "space saver" be replaced with a full sized tyre without compromising the under-chassis clearances too severely?
@AutoExpertJC3 жыл бұрын
Probably - like, where else are you going to carry the flat tyre once you change it, with the vehicle otherwise full?
@DavidGreen_au3 жыл бұрын
@@AutoExpertJC Yes, true enough. I should have thought of that. I hate those "space savers", I'd use a repair kit (and compressor) before them.

Really like this thing but feel ripped of by Kia's decision to not give us the full digital dash in what is not a cheap car.

Agreed - the digidash would have been better.
