Had a 2015, loved it, but was worried about the bearings in the engine. The recall was to put sensors on the engine to sense excess vibration then slow you to a limp mode until you could get to a shop. I didn't like the idea, so I sold it.

I had a 99 Camry bought used with 75k miles. Drove it to around 250K doing basic oil changes and brakes, and it was finally killed by a young inattentive driver who ran into her side. Currently own an 06 Avalon, Bought it used with 132K on it. 5 years on, now with around 230k, still running strong. Maintenance performed since owning it: oil changes, brakes, coolant flush and new water pump. Those two vehicles were purchased as my daily drivers. In between them, after the Camry was totaled, I leased a 2014 Hyundai Sonata SE 2.0T. Drove it out of the lot, got home. Started it up the next morning, and heard a rod knock. Returned it to the dealer the next day, and to make a long story short, it got its engine replaced (Known problem with those engines at that time). I will NEVER buy another Hyundai/Kia/Genesis for as long as I live; same as VW/Audi/Porsche and Ford.

My family have and still own a Kia Sorento 2011, Kia Sportage 2013, Kia Optima 2017, Kia Forte 2019. Absolutely no problems or issues that were mentioned. Only normal maintenance and replacement of brakes, shocks etc. I’ve always looked at Toyota, but I found them cheaply made, not as solid, and compared driving ability, but always ended up with a Kia. Will go with a company like Kia who backs their cars with a 10 yr warranty than a company that only backs up their vehicles with only 5 yrs. That alone tells you something. Everything is exaggerated and a lot of misinformation is made over the internet. Please compare a Camry to an Optima.

I would agree they had a big increase in quality if it wasn't for the massive Theta II engine, DCT transmission, and theft problems (selling cars without immobilizers - the "Kia boys"). My 2017 Sonata burns about a quart of oil every thousand miles. Toyota would never release an engine that bad or if they did they wouldn't keep selling it after knowing it was bad (or they would just fix it's design problems). Although that being said... My first Sonata (2003) lasted 325,000 miles on the original engine and transmission with minimal problems. My 2017 Sonata has been 100% reliable for 100k miles outside of the engine that will eventually fail.

I think a lot of issues have to do with direct injection.. Use the high octane, get a couple MPG better, but enjoy the much improved smoothness and quietness. Regular gas is so close to detonation with these high compression GDI.. works superbly on my Kia Carnival 3.5 V6. Kia's BEST Drivetrain under the Hood. Dual Injection both GDI and Port on this one. The Big Block these days.. No Turbo Req'd..

I have a 2022 Toyota Corolla, My friend as 2022 Hyundai Kona, its far superior to the Toyota, its quieter, smoother, better gas mileage, its actually faster, way better transmission, superb climate control, better equipped, my Toyota has had problems from day one, its been in 3 times for problems, it still as problems, her Hyundai not one issue. I have had a Kia Optima 2017 loved it, had no problems. At work we just off loaded all Toyota's in favor of KIA/Hyundai, as over the last 4 years, the kia's Hyundai never saw a dealership, the Toyota Camry's, Sienna, Tacoma, where always at the dealership, and the few we have left keep me in a job, the problem is Toyota as terrible customer service, and very poor dealerships, who cant repair the cars.

I switched to the Korean brands 10years ago, my Kia Rio dit 210000km, not one issue with it, never EVER topped up oil between services that was done yearly or every 150000km, with only 5w30, my 2nd was a Hyundai i20 1.4 Diesel, drove it 244000km with not a days problems bought it two years old with 30000km, NEVER ever had any problem with it and sold it after owning it for 6Years, my previous enployer bought it. I now bought a brand new Kia Sonet with the IVT transmission it actually simulates 8 gears under hard driving. you'd think it's a DCT, and it's VERY responsive. If toyota is so good, why do they have such a shit warranty? Not that warranty bothers me. Here in South Africa, Toyota and Vw and the majority of the others only get a 3-year warranty. Kia gets 5 years of unlimited km warranty and Hyundai 7 years 200000km. Lets see how it goes with this one, them people who are commenting shame some cannot afford Toyotas, big LOL, the Majority of Kias are priced HIGHER than Toyotas, and Toyotas are very high risk here tripple digit insurance premiums, and i have heard of all sorts of shit on them too, resale value on korean brands are pretty damn good every one i owned i ended up loosing nothing on selling it compated to what i paid for it, In any event its ones choice what they buy, and nobody can give a shit review unless they own one for at least 3 - 5Years. That's what a good warranty is about, and never had i had shit service from any hyundai or kia dealership either. The last rental i had was a Corolla CVT, and i was super disgusted in that chinese scooter like rubber band feeling and noise it made. Hectic, ever incline you approch it makes a hellova noise and revs constantly close to the red. After test driving the Kia with the IVT (CVT), i was expecting the same, but i was pleasantly surprised by the quality and quiteness. I did not think twice and bought one brand new. I could have bought the corolla cross for the exact same price, but Nah. AND here we get the Corolla and the corolla quest they call it, the previous generation corolla stripped and made cheaper, horroble cheap rattles, even the trunk matt covering the spare tire is as thin as a carboard box. Nah, no, thank you.

I have no idea about Kia reliability. But the other makers have largely gotten away from small SUVs in favor of the larger parade float type which I don't care for. So now I am considering a Kia because they have the vehicles in the category I'm looking for

Now that Toyota has changed hands and the founders and relatives have all the left the company, it can go either way in the near future. These companies are all starting to blend together in terms of quality and are focusing on squeezing every penny out of their customers, with “subscriptions” and timed failure parts.

I bought a 2023 Corolla and it is a solidly built car. Yeah the car isn’t pretty but my resale value will still be high when I trade it in in 5 years

So you bought a vehicle that you don’t like and you already plan to trade it in five years. Trade in value just gets eaten up in the negotiation process. I fail to see how this was a good investment.
