The left lane hugger is actually not a noob. He's just following the markings on the road. As soon as they change, he pulls over.

Since this is a source for people considering purchasing this car; the Nexens are noisy, but it's not the whole tyre noise story. Noise is probably due to stiff suspension parts like forks, springs, insulators, bushings. Some report lower noise after the parts soften/weakens. Have driven the same car on different tires and would rank noise levels as follows with the best first; Nokian Blue 2, Goodyear Efficientgrip 2, Nexen N'Fera SU1. A lot of Kona owners in the UK report lowest noise levels with Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires, but also 10% range loss or so. In the 2022 Kona HMG changed the forks to a new type with another insulator and rebound stopper. Not sure if the e-Soul 2022 gains this but worth checking. Wind noise is less of a noise.

My esoul makes a lot of road noise. Its very annoying. I dont know what to do: Selling it or change the Nexen tires.

Funny you mention tyre noise because when I test drove the e-soul last week I noticed it a lot quieter than the Kona and probably just about a tad quieter then my i3, the tyres might have a lot to do with it.

4:08 Sorry, but smooth tarmac in Belgium? Only at a few places, but most of the roads there are horrible. In the Netherlands we have mostly smooth roads and many highways with special tarmac that doesn't cause water spray (also less change of aqua planning).

That road noise is driving me crazy. I would not be able to take it. Almost worth the double consumption (and price) of e-tron to get a quiet relaxing cabin.
@PappiH5 жыл бұрын
@Moto Z Play yeah no, I wouldn't be prepared to rip my new car up to try making it a bit quieter. Wouldn't it effect the warranty? But hey, we all have different needs. I just happen to appreciate a quiet cabin a lot, and others don't care. Different cars for different needs. Were lucky to have a lot to choose between, nowadays.
@roundgrape5 жыл бұрын
@Moto Z Play no matter how much sound deadening is installed in a vehicle it will never make up for a construction that prevents interior noise to begin with. eg metal that is designed not to resonate with the road noise in the first place. I have gutted my own vehicle, trunk, roof, doors, floors (removed seats), opened up the rear wheel wells, pretty much everything possible to reduce noise on my car. even added extra seals on the doors. After 1 month of work the improvement was noticeable but it's still loud on the highway in the front seats. when you put everything back together it's never the same, some of the clips will break you can never put it together as good as it was from the factory. cellulose insulation between interior and the rear wheel wells made the biggest difference. the back of the car is now the quietest place to be on the highway. there was no sealed space to place cellulose to insulate the front wheel wells.
@pompiuses5 жыл бұрын
Yeah that 's exactly my experience as well after trying to sound proof my own car. Suspension design and bushings, tires, metals used and overall construction is what makes a car quiet. It's not as simple as just slapping on some sound deadening inside the cabin. It helps somewhat, but not much.

@Ljuddoktorn5 жыл бұрын
Hi Björn, You need to comment clearly what driving mode you are using to do the range tests. All EVs have different modes to save energy and improve range. I miss that in a number of your range comparisons. It is reasonable although range issues are becoming less and less important with new EV releases. A comment on noise testing from "Ljuddoktorn". Get your sound level meter up to passenger ear position not measuring at butt position to get relevant data. Also use exactly the same stretch of dry road and at exactly the same speeds. Usual reference speeds for road noise are 70 kph and 90 kph used in the industry. If you are more interested in wind noise contribution use 120 kph. Keep up the good work and please try to get an MB EQC as soon as possible for testing.
@bjornnyland5 жыл бұрын
I already measure head height and use the same stretch of roads. But 70 and 90 km/h is too slow for many people. Just look at the comments in my channel every time I do a 90 km/h test. That's why I include 120 km/h energy consumption test and noise test.
@francisgaliegue66455 жыл бұрын
It's a good thing that this drivetrain is so efficient because even with app support, you still cannot precondition the interior if the car is not plugged in! I mean, the e-Golf can do that and it has, for all intents and purposes, only half the battery capacity. Hyundai/Kia should really fix that. Easily done via a software update, of course, but we all know how that goes with traditional auto, right?
@youbencowell5 жыл бұрын
I don't understand how pre heating the interior saves battery when the car isn't plugged in.
@spazzman905 жыл бұрын
My 2017 and 2018 Soul EV allow preconditioning when not plugged in. 2016 and prior models will not. The trick is it wants me initiate a door lock first (even if they are already locked), and then start the climate and then it will work. Good luck.

I read one review of the 2020 eSoul complaining about *handling*. We've got the 2016, and have no complaints... so I'm wondering if it's the extra battery weight that that reviewer was feeling, or whether he just doesn't think the Soul handles well, in general. Can you share your experience in this regard? Thanks -- Bill
