I was lucky enough to go to a preview event for the EV3 and as a NiroEV owner, this is clearly the car Kia want me to move on to next. I love it, everything about it except - there shouldn’t be a version above the 40k luxury car bracket for the UK. That or, more features on the GT line rather than the GT Line S. I can let go of V2L and I’ve found that a heat pump would be useful but not essential, likewise the fancy ventilated seats. But losing the 360 camera, HUD, Sunroof to a 40k plus version is such a shame. Anyway, it’s fantastic - this is a game changer and along with the Elroq- the two muster have EV’s for many people.

However would love the HUD, cooled seats and extra drivers aids, fitted to a lower level trim body fitted with larger battery and smaller wheels so could gryt the full 370+ mile range. I also would prefer another base colour than orange!. Changing that on the GT-Line will take it over the "luxury car tax bracket" by the time I get to change my Niro EV. Currently drive a Soul and this is something I'd consider to replace it in about 12 months time. The Soul has been great and I'll hit 20,000 miles today with no real issues. My main concerns with the EV3 are the position of the air vents which seem very low, especially compared with the Soul, and the limited choice of colours on the Air model. I'd be looking at the long range Air.

Great review which I fully agree with the only negatives I have is 1. Heat pump should come as standard or at least an option on all models, and 2. The internal island is in my opinion an absolute disaster, the sliding table a useless gimmick the drink holders should be at easy reach not on the floor likewise the wireless phone charger should be in the dash under the heating buttons then they could have cleared the floor for passenger pass through like the Ionic 5 for an even more spacious and modern interior why still include a transmission tunnel like central island on a fully bespoke E.V. 9.5/10
@mdavid200ify10 күн бұрын
Personally, the smaller battery unit, the smaller wheels but the GT S trim and heat pump option would have been my preferred configuration and should still have avoided the £40k hit on the new VED rates. The limiting of the smaller battery to only the base spec seems a bit of a miss.

So would consider this car if it came with all the bells and whistles as my car which looking at the same spec as mine it does. So I’m taking up the offer of a test drive when the demo cars come in. Trying to persuade my wife to get one swapping in her Golf but does not like the way it looks bigger. It is not bigger but the "heavy" styling at the back makes it look so. Yes I can see the spoiler helps with airflow but makes it look chunky. That stupid shelf for a laptop much prefer the storage bin as you get in the cheaper Air trim. Are they targeting the business rep? When we stop to charge quick coffee and a loo break and we are off again. So just can't see it being useful for anything. Price is tricky too as anything over £40k is going to get clobbered with "luxury tax" in April .... maybe. Budget said she is looking at it. Dream on. Even the 2nd level GT with a paint colour added is over the £40k. Why only a heat pump as an option on the most expensive. Do they know something the whole rest of the industry does not - re "always get a heat pump" ? Waiting for them to get the demo models in.

Excellent review, I'm not a fan of the look of the EV3, the best design electric vehicles, the EV6 and Ioniq 5, I think they really have a lovely design on both of those. Unfortunately, I can't have an electric vehicle until the infrastructure improves as I live in the centre of town and have no off road parking, it's the case of wherever I find a parking space, that's where I park, since these particular manufacturers brought cars into the UK, they have improved massively. I don't need such a big vehicle as I only have myself to transport to and from work, small electric vehicles won't "yet" cope with my 60 mile daily commute but as technology improves, hopefully prices become more affordable, I may be able to find an appropriate vehicle for my needs, it's just down to the infrastructure. The only thing I would prefer is a more basic interior when it comes to controls, proper switch gear and clocks, I'm not really qualified to drive vehicles like these

The model you're reviewing sounds more like a GT-Line-S in terms of UK specs (confirmed later in the review). HuD, sunroof, electric & ventilated seats all drop-out in standard GT-Line, with no heat pump option. Sat in one a couple of weeks ago and the only impractical thing for me was that armrest/console rather than a nice deep bin. Test driving one next week at my local dealer. Only niggle is unless I settle for the standard orange GT-line, the paint option takes it over £40k and the tax implications of that from next April in UK.

@@ians3328 I've looked at every review of the EV3, on all the localized versions of KZbin I can find, and not one has an orange car on it - is there a reason? However when the current Niro was introduced the base colour was also orange - and they dropped that within 3 months of deliveries starting. In most other countries, including Korea, there doesn't even seem to be the option of orange

This is not a small car but more of a Sportage EV with squashed ends. Very roomy inside due to its width and height with great access due to wide opening doors. Build quality is superb more Audi than Toyota and the driver interface Kia's best yet, seat a bit short though. Annoyingly no heat pump on lower spec UK models when the small battery model is the one that needs it most. Kia claim no one chose it when a £1000 option - fairly obvious why at that price!! Lastly all that gloss black exterior plastic is pretty naff and may well get very tired looking.

Nice car. But the Vauxhall Frontera gives you the same size and space for £9,500 less. A door family crossover for £23,495 is pretty compelling. As such I think the EV3 should start at £29,995
@simonpaine234710 күн бұрын
Clearly KIA aren't going for the cheaper end of the market, the equipment level and the build quality on the EV3 is far superior to anything else. You get what you pay for.
@bill_heywood10 күн бұрын
@simonpaine2347 sure, but I'm making a slightly different point. The EV3 is 40% more than the Frontera. That's a large premium in a competitive market - and that's before Vauxhall starts it's famous discounting

@@bill_heywood The other major difference to consider is that Stellantis are really struggling to survive and Kia are going from strength to strength. Is it possible that Stellantis will go belly up before the warranty expires?
@bill_heywood10 күн бұрын
@simonpaine2347 depends where you look. UK BEV market share for October: Stellantis 11% HMG 7% The US is a car wreck for Stellantis, that's true
@simonpaine234710 күн бұрын
@bill_heywood Agreed, but investors are only interested in the whole package, not just the parts that are viable. It looks like they'll be selling off certain brands soon to try and keep the money guys happy.

NOT if your a uber /taxi driver which has kept the outgoing niro selling in decent quantity as boot space and rear passenger space in 3 isnt good enough plus the incoming MG EZ will do same job at 8 k cheaper

Since when has a 4300 mm long x 1850 mm wide (without mirrors) been a B segment car? Even C Class SUVs like the VW T Roc (VW T Cross 4127 mm) and the Renault Megane are close to 4200 mm long. The Volvo EX30 is just 4230 mm long. With the added interior space afforded by the EV platform the EV3 is a spacious car which I guess emphasises how good value it is. But a city car? I don’t think so unless you want to trade down for the school run from a Range Rover.

Want it but with a heat pump and below £40k! Please give Kia feedback!

What cars need to be better designed such that a rear wiper is unnecessary! The Audi A2 achieved it, it is possible. I’ve not needed a rear wiper for over 200,000 miles of driving :-) I’ve only needed one for the front windscreen as well. The one wiper appears to clean a greater percentage of the screen than two would ! Map pockets? Really? This is the C21 you know. Even the car has maps built into its systems, not just the mobile phone the driver and any passengers have. I’ve not used a road atlas for two decades at least so I fail to understand why they are necessary!

Very good review. It is an impressive car, but I think that it is a bit too big for me as I mostly use my car for city and local driving. I keep my cars for about 11 years and would prefer a car with LFP batteries as opposed to NMC ones that are in the Kia. I would also be apprehensive about buying a car with NMC batteries that were made by LG Chem/Energy because of the problems with the Chevrolet Bolt, Jaguar i-Pace and maybe the Hyundai Kona. I don't know if those batteries are in the EV3, but I would not be surprised.

It needs a heat pump as standard in Europe and especially the UK.

I live in a shithole country between Mexico and Canada and we won't see EV3s for many, many years. Or any other good small cheap EVs.
@chrisbaker484910 күн бұрын
Not keen on the blocky looks, the colours are wierd and unless you go for the most basic trim, the price takes you over the £600 VED. Its also a bit slow compared to the competition.

uk mid gt spec £39.5 k this is not the cheap EV we were expecting, compare spec on model 3 standard range no comparison

Model 3's are so old and tired looking now with iffy quality. Kia produces a much better quality package. Plus no one gives Musk their money anymore. Awful person.

How does it compare vs the Renault 4 ? Its much overpriced for this segment. Whatever happened to buying a normal small family car without all the bells and whistles, for a normal affordable £25k ????
@simonpaine234710 күн бұрын
Obviously there are cheaper makes available. Skoda for example, but this is arguably the best in this class, so it should be no surprise that it's the most expensive.
@Hi-wb5qx9 күн бұрын
Still way overpriced for a B segment car

Would I buy it? No. EVs are not suitable for long distance driving typical of the US. They're OK for driving around town, as long as you have a garage where you can recharge it, so, the suburban environment only. Some of my neighbours have two cars, an ICE for long haul drives, and an EV for the town. But this means you have to pay car purchase, registration, insurance, and maintenance twice. Is it worth the bother and expense? Unlike an EV, an ICE can do both.
@jayem89819 күн бұрын
330 miles of range isn’t suitable for long-distance driving? You may want to look at the actual data of how far consumers in the U.S. drive on road trips.
@zdzislawmeglicki22629 күн бұрын
@jayem8981 Typical drives for me, my friends, and neighbours are 500 miles or 570 miles or 700 miles or 2350 miles (this one is really long) one way. And for most of these routes there just aren't enough (if any) recharging stations on the way, none at the final destination in some cases.
