Hi and a happy new year. Do you know if it is possible to replace our existing 5W system with the updated ccNC? Could we order the part and have the dealership replace it for us? If so, any estimate on the cost?

@IoannisAnifantakis from what I understand, it would not be possible. The ccNC system is more integrated than our current system and wouldn't be compatible with our other software.

Also was wondering if the USB•C adapter parts from the new Kona or the ioniq6 (or ioniq5N - if it has usb-c) could fit and replace the outdated USB-A adapters of ioniq5? Have any update on that or interested to check it out? (I know this can be solved with an adapter, but I bet many of us would be interested on a more refined, OEM like, and permanent USB-C solution).

I would think it would be easy to swap out, but I'm not sure. The EV6 only has one USB-A port for data, everything else is USB-C, so I wouldn't be able to see with my personal vehicle.

I was so hyped-up to get the wireless auto in my Kia Ceed (5W)... I just updated it and nope - no wireless android auto. Thank you for clarification!

Have they released an official reasoning on why the EV6 does not support wireless Apple car play but my 2022 Kia niro hybrid does? I’d would’ve love to get the EV6 but I’m waiting to see if the info system is improved and it gets an update that allows wireless Apple CarPlay

Apparently it was due to an issue with the nav provider Tom Tom and what would come up if "nav" was tapped on the nav bar. Supposedly that has been resolved so many are hopeful it will be coming eventually. I talked to Kia corporate several months ago and they said they are working on it but wired provides the best audio quality. Hopefully it comes. That said, there are A LOT of adapters that give you wireless carplay and more (like the Tbox Plus I reviewed). Don't let that hold you back.

Unfortunately no. We will be getting a new infotainment system update this month though in the USA so we'll see. I'm not holding my breath though.

Yeah the UK just got one but it didn't add much. I'm hopeful we'll get something good but who knows.

2024 Ioniq 5 shows Android Auto on the media screen, but it does not light up. My phone automatically connects though? How can we get video?

Do you think that there would be difficult to update the older infotainment system in the older ioniq 5 and 6 to get the new layout as new Kona and ioniq 5N has? would love if there is a quick software update, like how you would update windows 10 to 11 on a PC.

That would be nice but I don't see it happening. It's a different infotainment system with different hardware and capabilities. We might get some features though.

The Tbox Plus takes a little bit to boot because it's loading the entire android system. It is very powerful though. If you only want wireless AA and CP though, the Carlinkit 5.0 is solid. Check out that review video. It doesn't take as long to load.

I just use a wireless Android auto adapter. Boots fast as it's not the small android PC things, it's just a wireless dongle

It wouldn't be ccNc unfortunately. That just recently started rolling out for new models like the redesigned 2024 Hyundai Kona.

If they were to give us wireless CarPlay in the future, will we still be able to use the Tbox Plus? I love mine (Ty for the recommendation) and do not want to lose the ability to use it.

Meanwhile the TBox Plus works great and not having the wireless carplay isn’t a deal breaker anymore especially when you consider that TBox Plus and other devices make your infotainment system more useful for other purposes like watching videos, gaming and such.

Thanks Jeff. I have ordered the Carolink 5.0. My Kia EV6 (2023) has been having issues with wired CarPlay. Something inside the USB-C port is causing intermittent loss of wired Carplay connection and it isn't the cable because I have tried several solid cables from Anker. Have you heard this about the EV6?

Yeah unfortunately some people have issues with the usb port. Luckily with an adapter, you can mount it with some 3m double sided tape and it keeps the usb cable in one place so it doesn't move much and hopefully will reduce disconnects.

Do you know if its okay to leave the USB wireless android auto adaptor plugged in the car when not in use? Any battery draining if not used over a long time? I have the Teeran android auto adaptor. TIA!

It should be fine. The usb port on the EV6 powers down after a few minutes after turning the car off. The only time it's powered (other than when the car is on) is if the car is charging, you check the app, or unlock the car (or walk by it closely with your keys) and wake it up.

Question to those using TBox Plus or other such adapters...do these contribute to 12 V battery drain???

Good question. No that shouldn't be an issue. With most vehicles the usb port powers down after it's turned off. With the EV6 for example, it powers down after about 2-3 min.

I'm using an AAWireless adapter on my Ioniq 5. Works great for wireless Android Auto. It has an option in its app to shut off its power drain after you turn the car off. Seems to work for me.

Yeah I had one of the first AAWireless units. I liked the concept, but had a lot of connection issues with the USB-C port. Hopefully newer versions are better. That said, yeah several wireless adapters work well and have similar features. I will say, most vehicles (like the EV6) shut down the USB port after a few minutes after the vehicle is turned off too.

​@@TechnicallyJeffThat is unfortunate. I got mine this year and it works great. The AA wireless connection is more reliable than my wired connection. Maybe time for a new cable! My only concern is that my phone gets quite warm when using the AAWireless and charging wirelessly.

Yeah that's one of the biggest issues with wireless Android Auto. It requires the phone to run those apps which are then mirrored on the main screen, which uses some processing power. Then adding in the wireless charging which already generates some heat, it makes a lot of phones get quite warm.

Jeff. Question. I can't stand the radio/AC controlled. My finger always bumps the Auto button and the freak'n fans turn on. I want to keep it in one mode or the other. I like this car but find myself cursing at the system when I go to adjust the temp/fan speed and suddenly the radio is turned on and blasting me. I thought I saw a video that allowed owners to choose one setting or the other permamently but maybe I am crazy. IF a new EV6 comes out with a different system then I am selling this car just based on that. Otherwise I would love this car

Hey there is a way to set a default. Press and hold the button that switches it. It will give you the option to set it to infotainment or climate 👍

Unfortunately no. Only the ccNC vehicles have it it the ones with the lower quality infotainment systems.

@HiCZoK yeah unfortunately older lower trims have it. New models with the new ccNC infotainment systems have it. But the upgraded widescreen radios prior to now don't unfortunately. It might eventually come though.

As of now, only ccNC is getting it in Korea and Europe. Possibly next year we'll get it, but not now.

The update hasn't come yet. There was an issue so it was delayed until June. So we'l see. I wouldn't hold my breath though. They are heavily focused on ccNC content, not the older radios like we have. Personally I'd get something like the Carlinkit 5.0 or Tbox Plus I reviewed.

Hopefully they do update the vehicle 🤞But that’s not Tesla or Rivian … They care about selling more cars. At least we have the Carlink devices working perfectly. I plan as well to order a TBox Plus when the price drops a little.
