Remember China still bought lots of GM vehicles even knowing our government bailed them out with lots of money. Buick used to be a big brand in China. Didn't everyone say Japan would "kill" the US auto industry in decades past? It looks like Japanese automakers are more at risk than others from Chinese imports.

The US fed isn't investing in cheap EVs to nearly the extent that China is though. And China is a far larger nation than the US or Japan. They can steamroll us if we let them.

No matter how much us ev folks wish everyone drove a BEV, the market says hybrids are the answer right now. EV owners dont drive the market, the buyers do so stop trying to sell the manufacturers what to make. . They make what sells not what we wish for
@thenerdyarab7622Ай бұрын
Poor salespeople have a lot to do with it.
@CyrribraeАй бұрын
The market doesn't say hybrids are the answer to anything lol. They say that there is a notable bump in hybrid sales as there is a dip in EV sales. In other words, normal markets don't normal market things. I have no problem with hybrids, but investing heavily into hybrids now is like investing heavily into PDAs in 2007 because the palm pilot seems to be really hot right now and the iPhone 1's market share is still kinda small.... The market is reactive. If you're only reactive to reactivity, you're doomed. US automakers should do what's needed to survive - produce hybrids, sure, but better also get on improving BEV tech because there are lots of threats coming that will make the calm status quo quite chaotic.

Sorry, tried to email this but wouldn’t send🔋❤️🔌I recently purchased a used model S and I have a Nima 1450 outlet and could make a huge benefit for our family, my wife charges on a 110 outlet on her model 3 and she sometimes has to switch with me if she goes more than about 50 miles. We spend all our money on the kids and can’t afford a new charger. I have 4 kids and they always seem to use up my xtra cash to purchase one. Kids always come 1st🥹 Love your show and watch all your Chanel’s on out of spec, state of charge, and batteries included podcast.🔋🥰⚡️ Love that you guys have great giveaways, even tho I would watch you guys without them. I would use the charger every day and would love it! Thanks and keep up the great info coming like you do! ❤️⚡️

Chinese EVs are already in the US. Polestar and Volvo are majority owned by Geely which is a Chinese company. Just not selling in large quantities yet.

@@Weezedog I’m talking about Volvo as a whole not just EVs. Almost all their cars for the US market are built in Sweden or the U.S. Polestar was actually able to get a temp loophole because they were under Volvo at the time to avoid the tariffs but as I understand it the EX30 will not get it which is why they are building it in Belgium for the U.S. market now

@@DriveElectricWithDomenick The EX30 is already being produced in China and was expected to be imported from there with a starting price of about $37,000 but the tariffs will push that to over $50,000, again making it uncompetitive in its segment. Volvo last fall announced it would add EX30 production in Ghent alongside the XC40 and C40, but not until 2025.

Martyn, iPhones are NOT hardly made in China anymore. They are made in India. Those large plants are shut down, machinery is moved to India.

Disagree with Tom here. At the time Japan was an ally, China is an adversary and a country we have increasingly deteriorating relations with. Both parties are lock step (which almost never happens nowadays) in keeping China out of the market. They will do whatever they can to block them from selling here, it won’t be anytime soon if ever. Also this foregone conclusion that Americans will just line up 1000 deep and fall over themselves to buy Chinese EVs has no merit whatsoever. No one has any idea how they will fare here
@johnpoldo8817Ай бұрын
If we don’t have high tariffs on Chinese cars and prevent them coming in from Mexico, our US car industry will fail. This will cause a tax payer bailout as we’ve seen before. That is very bad for USA. What caused GM & Ford to allow the Chinese to get so far ahead of us? Is our government part of the solution or the problem?
