2025-01-26 UPDATE: I received a request to make one without the heated steering button, and I created a new set for RHD vehicles, so there are now new files uploaded to the print sites. 2025-01-25 UPDATE: Based on a couple of requests I have created and posted a version of this cover without the ventillated seat buttons. In the basic of the Kia EV6, there are still normal buttons. I am very glad about that with ours. But great solution.
@EV-olution5 күн бұрын
Yes, I wish my car had the normal buttons like in the other trims. They are so much better. For 2025 Kia has changed them to all be real buttons.
@patrickmaartense77725 күн бұрын
in the GT these are also physical (3 only)
@EV-olution5 күн бұрын
Correct, since the GT does not have electric or ventillated seats, they need less buttons on the console. Since there is no tactile version that exclude the ventillated buttons they use the buttons from the Wind trim, which makes sense for production costs.
@danieldaniels75712 күн бұрын
I have the basic "Light" trim as well. I much prefer its center console. Physical tactile buttons, and the finish isn't that annoying glossy piano black used in the higher trims.

@EV-olution5 күн бұрын
Thank you for subscribing, I really appreciate it. Since there is a slight curve, be sure to use a good adhesive for the right side, to avoid it popping up.
@illbeback2YT5 күн бұрын
@EV-olution Maybe it is possible to heat and bend the print so it matches the curve in a permanent way.
@EV-olution5 күн бұрын
@@illbeback2YT it would be more trouble than it's worth since it would probably adversely affect the finish of the exposed surface. I just tripled up on the tape on the right side. It may be worth trying, but I am feeling lazy 😎
@harvey666164 күн бұрын
@@EV-olution _"it would be more trouble than it's worth"_ -- I think the suggestion to heat the print is actually not a bad one. It would require some finesse, but done properly there will be no change in the finish of the piece. I'd use a heat gun, but a hair dryer would probably work just as well, and maybe even better since you wouldn't need to be as careful to avoid overheating the piece. The hardest part is that you'd need to heat the piece in, or at least very near to, the car because it will cool rapidly. To be honest, the best way to accomplish this I think would be to design a second piece, which would be just a jig to lay the actual installed piece on top of, and which has a contour that matches the contour in the car (I guess in theory you could just use the car, but I'd be wary of blowing hot air onto the car itself, even if the printed part is sitting on top protecting the surface). Of course, designing that piece would be tricky, to get the shape just right, but it just takes one person to do that, then anyone can print the jig as well to get the perfect shape on the installed piece. (The jig would be designed to be printed on its side, so that the top surface where the installed piece will lie can be perfectly smooth with features higher resolution than whatever layer height the printer is capable of.)

@@harvey66616 PETG and ABS are plastics that have much higher glass transitioning temperature than PLA. ABS starts at 100C and PETG requires between 80C and 90C to become pliable. I would not want to put that type of focused heat on the console, especially in the winter since the console is cold even when the heat has been on for a while. It would be best to wait for summer and see if the cover can be coaxed into the right shape when it's 30C outside and the inside of the car is very hot.

I did the exact same thing a while ago! I started with the same design, but didn't like the visibility for the lights. After modifying the holes, I went the opposite direction from what you did -- instead of putting the textured side up, i printed *raised* markings on the top (also printed in color in case I glance down) for tactile indicators identifying the buttons. Details aside, this is a great mod for the console buttons. I also tried printing a transparent version, but was never satisfied with the results. Edit: Completely concur with your recommendation not to use PLA for anything that's going in a car.

In the US, the Wind trim has five physical buttons in the same spot. The MY2025 facelift also replaces the capacitive panel with physical buttons, even on the GT-Line. Is it possible to source the panel with physical buttons from a junkyard and then swap out the capacitive panel with that? Would be more elegant and actually be OEM.
@EV-olution5 күн бұрын
Yep, they 2025 fixes the issue with real buttons in all trims. In the 2024 and older GT Line 2, you can probably replace the part, but is the connector the same and is it worth the cost and amount of work required? I would say not really. Especially since the car is under warranty.

Hi Andre, I agree with the things you hate with our EV6s. I am looking forward to the 2026 Genesis GV70 electric with a larger 84kwh battery, NACS charge port and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android auto & slightly more ground clearance (from 160mm to 174mm) to upgrade to. Hopefully you get to review one soon, I really appreciate your detailed evaluations comparing to our EV6 and 2019 Niro EV sx touring which my daughter still loves driving. Hopefully the 2026 GV70 resolves most issues while charging at over 250kwh/hr! My son and family also really enjoy their 3row EV9!

Cool idea. I watched a video made by the two lovely young Canadian women at Brantford Kia and it looks like they have put real buttons on the 2026 EV 6 and have gotten rid of most of the piano black. Still has the dual duty infotainment/climate screen that seems less than optimal to me. I wonder if the same thing would be helpful for the capacitive buttons on the EV 9. I've heard people complain about hitting those by accident when using the infotainment screen.
@EV-olution5 күн бұрын
The one in the video you saw must not be a GT Line Pack 2. Unfortunately the GT Line 2 pack still has the capacitive buttons. The dual touch panel is not an issue if you leave it on climate controls and control the radio/media from the steering, like I do. For daily use there is no real reason to use the media screen of the panel you are referring to.
@Molishious5 күн бұрын
@@EV-olution Here's a video from the LA autoshow and he says it's the gt-line. He pushes the buttons so I know they aren't capacitive. (at 7:10) I think I can get used to the dual use touch panel but I'm just saying it's less than ideal. My wife drives my car off and on and I know she'll have little patience for it. I think it's also less than ideal for the passenger as they will need to switch controls to make it work for the stereo. It just seems to be an unnecessary step when there is so much space for both. I look with envy at standard controls on ICE cars. I do like that when it is in climate mode it has knobs for the temperature, that's one advantage for me. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6qsiIucfZJ-qtE

It does minimise the opportunities to accidentally trigger them though. "Set climate to 20" "Open navigation" "Open settings" Etc... it minimises the need to push the buttons on the multi function display so minimises the chance of accidentally triggering the seat heater. I agree its still a papercut of a problem, but it definitely makes it occur less.
