Great video, I too think my EV6 AWD matt grey is the best car I have ever owned. Only problem for Kia is that I think I will kept it for 5 or 6 years (5 year service pak purchased for £530). Saw the new facelift EV6 at an EV show last week but not a big enough uplift to get me to part with my current car. Keep the video's coming and all the best from the UK!

The refresh EV6 is nice, but not as aggressive looking as the current EV6 and I am hoping the GT will have more distinction as compared to the current model year GT-Line vs GT. I find that the current GT-Line and GT look far too similar and would like to see the new model have a differentiation similar to what Hyundai did with the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 5N. Aside from that, the new EV6 offering a larger battery pack, the new infotainment, and correcting some of the issues I mention in this video, make it interesting to me. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

90k kilometers with my 2022 EV6 in 🇪🇺🇧🇪 . I still get in every day with the smile but I follow you 100% in the minor flaws of the EV6. No serious faults, but best to solve anyway. I have the most problems with the paint quality. The stone chips on the hood are just a battlefield. Often put forward, but “No rear window wiper” is not a problem for me, but then the camera must either be better protected from dirt (different position) or have a washer function. Thanks to the local dealer, my 12V battery here was replaced under warranty after 2.5 years, free of charge 👍 🙏 Kia Belgium. I think we have to assume a new reality on that front and that 2 to 3 years with a 12V battery for an EV is the new normal because they are also used very differently? After almost 3 years, I still see few other cars that come close in price, range and fast charging capability. As a travel car, unbeatable. Mine is in deep forest green, and you see very few of those here, so still a unique color. Very happy with it. Keep up the good work! 💪 You are being watched, even in little Belgium!

Same here, I still smile when I drive mine, it is an amazing vehicle. I did not touch on the subject, but I agree, the paint on the hood/bonnet is not very strong. Mine has many chips and is starting to look pretty bad. I have no issues with the rear window either and I see how anyone could complain about it. I have never had to wipe it, but the backup camera is always getting dirty, which makes me miss the CamWipe on my Niro EV. Regarding your 12V battery, you are lucky because in Canada, after the first year, the warranty is based on months of use and a fee applies. It is only free in the first 12 months, which is why I opted to replace mine with the AGM battery after 18 months, like I did with my Niro EV. Problem solved. As for the colour you have, I love it and would have seriously been torn between green and the red I have if green were available in the GT-Line. Since it wasn't my choice was easy. And thanks for watching, I really appreciate it 😎

We ordered a red EV6 AWD in Germany in May 22 and waited 13 months in vain because it was not a top of the line version. We did not want 20 inch wheels or Meridian etc. Then we checked the market and found 3 top models within a week. So now we have a boring black version (with all the extras). From inside, we don't notice it that much 😢 I'm sure Kia prioritised sending the top models to Germany, and the rest could wait. We are quite content, though.😊😊
@EV-olution2 ай бұрын
It's a shame you could not get what you wanted, but the top trim is still a very nice EV6. You could get 19" wheels to get the extra range though. 😎
@gubsak552 ай бұрын
@@EV-olutionYes and no. For some odd reason the way they described our car in the official papers issued by the German authorities we could not get any 19 inch wheels, so we had to buy 20 inch ones as winter tyres. More expensive and not as good for winter driving. I suppose we could get this changed, but that is too late now.

Pretty much the same "issues" for me, although I can very well live with the things you mentioned. I am not using Android Auto or Apples Carplay at all - I never found a good use even with the cable. The one thing that annoys me the most while driving is the unreliable speed limit detection while having smart cruise control active. I mean, often there is not even a road sign and the car decides to change the SCC from 80 to 100km/h or vice versa. For me it even became a habit to always set cruise control to 1 km/h above or below the actual limit, so it doesn't change automatically. Regarding the overall experience with the EV6 I completely agree with you. It's a nice car and I hope we will travel together for many years to come.

I disabled the auto speed detection because I did not like it changing by itself since the situation sometimes requires keeping the current speed for a short period.

I was able to get both native nav and CarPlay working at the same time using some cheats on another YT channel, but it still doesn’t seem to work most of the time (only one nav can be operating at a time). Hi ,I have the same car as yourself having had the Kia E NIRO that you had and haven’t had any problems with the batteries on both cars. Now wether that’s pot luck or not who knows but I do know that if you leave the traction battery at below a 20% state of charge it won’t charge the 12v battery. Secondly the heated seat and steering wheel switch’s are so easy to activate done it myself on numerous occasions but on the face lifted modal they are a press switch option and as for wireless Apple CarPlay it’s the head unit that prevents it we’re again on the new car it has it. As for the gloss black I agree with you. On my car I had ppf on the front. But like you still love the car.
@EV-olution2 ай бұрын
I never leave my car below 20% SoC, so I am sure that that is not the issue. I believe there are a couple of issues and it may have been resolved with the ICCU update. Since I now have an AGM 12V battery and a battery pack between the 12V and my dashcam, it is difficult to know what fixed the issue. I occasionally look at the 12V battery monitor graph and it is fine. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

In my 2020 Niro EV I replaced the 12v battery with a Die Hard EV AGM.. H4-xEV. That's what they had on the shelf, ready to go. Yeah, the wet battery once discharged to 50% its life has been reduced. A few times of this and it's life is very short. The AGM's can be discharged to 80%. Much tougher also.. I wish I could find an H4 that is LiFePo4 but the most time consuming task was finding a battery H4 AGM with the negative terminal on the left side.
@EV-olution2 ай бұрын
That is why I was very happy to have a battery specialist store available. They have tons of versions that I could compare and even test. The EV6 was an easy swap. My 2019 Niro EV was more difficult because of the terminal positions and the size of the battery tray. I managed to make the Bolt47 AGM fit by trimming off one side of the tray and it never moved, even after 1 year of driving.

We don't use iPaddle at all, so we don't know if ours has the same issue. And here is a really odd one: Ours has the physical buttons of the lower model in the middle console for the seats....lucky us :-). Everything else is up to GT-Line specs. We have done about 15,000km and when it looks like that the 12Vdc battery dies, we will simply replace it with something better. The 12Vdc battery issues seem to be a very common problem across most EV's. I can't figure out why.

I have a Galaxy Fold 5 which does not have a massive battery and did not have problems with over draining, although I did test the wireless charging to see if it had been improved over previous generations of Kia EVs. Your experience proves that AGM is the way to go with a 12V battery in an EV. The issue for manufacturers is the cost is at least double for AGM so they don't use them. In my mind that does not makes sense because I had two 12V batteries for free, from Kia, in the first 18 months. If the car had an AGM I would not have had to replace it and it would have cost less for Kia since they had to pay the dealer to replace the 12V, not just the cost of the battey itself.

Thanks Jeff. The dashcam may have been one cause, but the 12V battery management is an issue. I installed a battery pack between my 12V and the dashcam so I eliminated it from the equation and I still had issues. The 12V AGM battery I bought from Batteries Expert allows for a deeper discharge without ruining the battery health, essentially solving the issue. I used the same 12V in my Niro EV when I had the issue.

Sorted the piano black by having it all PPFed, even the interior, after 2years and 16k miles it still looks great. Yes, the i-Pedal ding, my wife keeps asking what that is, yes the charge light. I have also had 12v problems when packing, open the power tailgate a few times and the battery goes from 99% to 64%. On holiday packing for return the 12v died, fortunately I keep a jump in the frunk.The garage tested the battery and says it's OK but it didn't used to do that. A good tip is to plug the V2L plug in while packing as it triggers the 12v to charge, but why doesn't it recharge when it gets below 50%? My biggest gripe though is not having a manual precharge button, there are so many occasions where navigating to the charger won't work.

I was supposed to have the car PPF'd, but I bought a house at the same time and put my money there instead. There is no excuse and they should stop using piano black. I really hate it. I agree, there should be a button to turn on preconditioning manually. @EV-olution2 ай бұрын
That is because this video is not a car review, it's a list of the things I don't like about my car and that Kia could improve upon. The EV6 is pretty efficient, like all Kia, Hyundai and Genesis EVs on the e-GMP platform. My AWD GT-Line Pack 2 is rated for 406km of range, but I consistently get about 425km summer range, and even more if I do less highway driving.
@Molishious2 ай бұрын
Hopefully some things have been improved with the 2025 update that has then new ccnc software so things like the navigation showing up in the display and the regen level not being saved, might be solved. I know they removed the gloss black form the center console. Interesting that you didn't complain about the dual purpose infotainment system that you have to press a button to switch from one to the other. I suppose if you do your audio controls via the steering wheel its not so bad. I have gloss black on my car and I haven't noticed extra wear and tear, but I just don't like the look of it. If I got the EV 9 I'd want the AWD Wind trim as it has all the things I want the most but also has matte black on the wheel wells instead of gloss black. Mostly it's a lot cheaper, but not having the gloss black is a bonus. I'm probably going for the 2025 Ioniq 5 as I prefer the styling and it has some advantages like a rear wiper and actual physical buttons on the top trim for the seat heaters. But if the I5 didn't exist, I'd be perfectly happy with an EV 6.

The new generation of E-GMP does solve some of the issues, like the i-Pedal "ding" having been removed, the HUD has the Google Maps navigation directions, it has wireless Android Auto and CarPlay, and it got rid of the gloss black. Unfortunately, the 2025 EV6 is a refresh and not a new version, so there are some improvements, but some things remain, like the dual control panel below the vents. Regardless of your choice of Ioniq 5, EV9 or EV6, they are all excellent vehicles to have.

I have an EV6 GT. Had a BMW and Tesla before and the Kia for me is by car the best in terms of auto wipers and auto headlights so surprised to hear your issues. What I am surprised about is the ICCU/12v drain issue. I too have had this issue but with our Ioniq 5. Worried this is about to happen with the EV6. Seems to hit these cars around the 2 year mark. It is very frustrating and caused no end of issues with the Ioniq 5. We are now getting a replacement ICCU. I don't think this is acceptable and am amazed you are still happy despite that particular issue. In fact I amazed at how little is spoken about that issue by car reviewers etc. Seems a big cover up.
@EV-olution2 күн бұрын
The ICCU issue is not time based, and affects pretty much all e-GMP platform EVs, but in my case, after replacing the 12V the second time with an AGM 12V battery, I have had zero issues. I just had the last ICCU update recall performed, but honestly, with the AGM 12V battery I will never know if the update fixed the software issue, or not because the issue is gone when you have a good 12V battery that does not "mind" being drained to low voltages. Supposedly the lastest update, including the VCM service bulletin that was also done, solves the 12V drain issue. I love my EV6 regardless because in 2.75 years and almost 100,000km of driving, the only issue I had was replacing the 12V battery twice, and I know I won't have to do it again. As for talking about the issue, I have a video about it from 2020 with my previous car, the Niro EV, and now my EV6, so I talk about it, but that is because I own the vehicles and experienced the issue. Reviewers only get 7 days with a car and rarely have issues with a new EV, so they don't know about it.

Thanks for an good video! Interesting that your car has the terrible headlights even on GT-Line. I think the less-bad lights are standard on GT-Line in Finland. By no means are the better lights good compared to the competition but the standard lights are just horrible. Are the better headlights available as an option in your market? But all in all there are no perfect cars available. Some have good lights but have bad efficiency, some have good efficiency but have bad auto wipers, etc.

Regarding your choice of the 2025 EV6 top trim, it is an excellent choice because I am very confident that they have fixed some of the annoyances of my EV6. The refreshed EV6 is still not available in the Canadian press fleet here in Québec, but I have reviewed the EV9 which has the new version of tech. The new EV6 should have removed the i-Pedal "ding", should have much less gloss black inside the car, should have the new infotainment that offers wireless AA and Carplay as well as AA directions in the HUD like I mentioned in the video, and I am sure the ICCU update has been integrated into the new car so the 12V battery should be fine. The 12v maintenance (and related issues) is confusing. My Volt did no maintenance while off (to the best of my knowledge) and never had any issues. It was an AGM from the factory, but just the fact that it could last (just like in an ICE) while off .... 🤷♂️
@EV-olution2 ай бұрын
The difference with your Volt is that it had a gas motor with an alternator to maintain the 12V battery, and possibly a system to maintain the 12V via the high voltage battery (with no indicator). That plus the fact that your battery was AGM means the the chance of a 12V issue is slim to none. That is the reason I installed an AGM 12V in my cars, and with the ICCU update from Kia the issue should be resolved in the EV6.
@NeoPreloadАй бұрын
You mentioned the 12v battery failure is it down to the battery or software
@EV-olutionАй бұрын
It was a bit of both. The 12V battery is pathetic in terms of size and with the poor software before the ICCU updates, the 12V was allowed to discharge too low. Since the original 12V is a normal and small capacity battery, the discharge happened in a short period of time. The larger AGM 12V patches the issue since it has more capacity and allows for deep discharge, but the real solution is the ICCU updates and replacement under recall warranty. With the ICCU fixed the 12V issue goes away... supposedly, but I am confident in Kia's fix.

@@EV-olution Hi @EV-olution. Yes, I watched the entire video. I note that you were very posiive towards the EV6, as am I. The little niggles such as lack of wireless Android Auto or Apple Carplay and the piano gloss black have been addressed by KIA in the 2025 "face-lift" model. Sadly, they have not seen fit to do upgrades for the software to enable the wireless Android/Apple system, but, as I said, you can buy plug in modules such as OTTOCAST, and solve that problem. Most of your complaints were minor (maybe "Petty" is too strong a word - so if I have offended you, then I apologise). It seems to me that so many people look at Tesla's offerings and rave about them, yet KIA's cars are much better built, and offer (arguably) superior after sales service, longer-warranties, and their design and layout reflects a car manufacturer that actually understands cars and drivers, which Tesla sadly doesn't. As for some of the other things you were unhappy about, well, I still think they are either fixable via tuning or some after-market add-ons (your own battery fix is an example). My KIA dealer here in Australia has been excellent at recalling and fixing the small battery issue, and upgrading the software. Ultimately, no car is perfect. Many EVs from the bigger more prestigious brands, which cost a lot more than the KIA EV6, are deeply flawed, and if they go wrong you're looking at massive costs. Anyway, thanks for your video, I found it enjoyable and informative. 😀👍

Most of those seem like pet peeves except the battery issue, that seems quite unusual did Kia address them? How’s the winter range on this GT in Quebec Winters?
@EV-olution2 ай бұрын
That is why I make the comments I make, at the beginning and end of the video. As for your question about winter, I replied to your comment from yesterday, but here it is again. The general rule of thumb for any modern EV in winter is a 30% loss of range. With that being said, in my experience, both my wife's 2019 Kia Soul EV, my previous 2019 Kia Niro EV, and now with my 2022 Kia EV6, the winter range loss is about 25%. As for a range number, that is a number that will be different for each person, even if two people have the same car the range numbers can be vastly different because of several factors: heavy or light foot, wind, rain, snow, wheel size, tires, tire pressure, road condition and surfaces, highway vs city driving, etc. My EV6 GT-Line Pack 2 has 20 inch wheels from the factory and is officially rated for 406km or range from Kia; however, in the summer I get up to 450km, but average about 400km since I do a fair amount of highway driving which reduces range in an EV. For the winter I bought some 19 inch Fast Wheels that are light and aerodynamic (video available on my channel) and with my winter tires I get between 300km and 320km, which falls into my 25% average range loss. I hope this helps, but if you want to know more I have this video from 3 years ago. The 12 volt battery problem is common amongst all EV's, especially where it gets cold, and it is not practical to use a battery tender when the car is not in use. Until manufacturers find a way to use the existing charge port to not only charge the high amperage batteries, but also the 12 volt battery, EV owners will be swapping out a lot of batteries. Oh, and if you own a Tesla, for example, good luck getting into the car if the 12 volt battery is dead. The technology has a ways to go before I buy an EV. Another troubling thing is that Hydro Quebec is raising the rates for homes with high power usage. In the end, I think a hydrocarbon powered vehicle will be more economical.

Why would you think the car couldn't charge the 12v battery from the charge port, unless you mean when it is dead.

I think you are misunderstanding what I described in this video. I am aware that the 12V battery is an issue for many EVs, I even say that in the video. Regarding the device I have on my 12V battery, it is not a battery tender, it is a Bluetooth monitor that makes graphs to show the state of charge, like I showed in the video. It does not do anything other than read the battery voltage. On the subject of the 12V battery being charged, I don't think you have a full understanding of how the technology works. It is not feasible, nor does it make sense to charge a 12V battery via the charge port. The 12V battery is maintained by hardware in the car, that converts high voltage from the car's main battery to 12V power for the 12V battery. The issue with the 12V in the e-GMP platform is/was related to a software issue and/or the inverter, which is what adjusts the voltage between the batteries when the 12V needs power. The fix for the issue seems like a simple programming issue, but an EV is an incredibly complex thing and the interrelation of components and software make it more difficult than what simply adding a line of code. As for your statement about Hydro Québec and the cost, all you have to do is look at the cost of a full charge versus the cost of a full tank of fuel to understand that your statement is not correct. My car costs 7$ to charge from 0% to 100%. An equivalent gas car fill-up is about 90$ from empty. If Hydro were to increase the cost of electricity by 13x, the issue would not be that the EV costs the same to "fill", the issue is that the economy would collapse because people could not afford electricity. Multiply your house electricity bill by 13 and let me know if you think Hydro would even be allowed by the governement to do that. Also, this question only considers cost of electicity vs gas and does not even factor in a gas car cost of maintenance that is much higher than an EV (oil changes, brakes, mufflers, etc). There is an excellent book that just came out and was written by Daniel Breton, that I strongly suggest. IPedal isn’t intended to be used as a default driving mode. If you want that, buy a fascist Tesla. What is missing is an AGM 12v battery which is what they were prototyped with. Don’t install standard lead acid batteries.

As shown in the video, I did install an AGM 12V battery.

a fascist Tesla .. is there a tyrannical Toyota, a democratic Dodge, a socialist Subaru or a capitalist Cadillac ;- )
@JohnCap5232 ай бұрын
@@marcgrondin65 No but there’s a fascist funded by Tesla money, and if you don’t think Musk is a fascist you’re either naive, under a rock, or a fascist fanboi yourself. Take a walk through what Twitter has been turned into. Listen to him and his politics. Maybe you’d enjoy living in another Hungary, or worse.

Jesus why would you buy the car with black shiny trim if you hate it so bad. I’m so sick of reviewers bitching about shiny black trim .

In late 2021 there were no EV6 in Canada. I was one of the first 200 people in Canada to order and receive one in early 2022 and did not have the privilege of driving the car for several days or living with it before buying it. It was a buy-it-or-lose-it situation and the car suited my needs, loved the look of the car, and had no experience with exterior gloss black plastic, so I bought it. I made this video after 2.5 years of ownership and if you watched the full video, and not just the segment about the gloss plastic, you would know that I love my EV6 and that I said it is the best car I have owned in 35 years of owning cars. This video is simply a list of things I believe Kia could do better on. Thanks for watching and have a great day.
