NEVER let the caliper hang by the hose. This causes the inner lining of the hose to tear and then acts as a check valve. When you let off the brakes, the fluid cannot flow back to the reservoir thus not allowing pads to release. End result is the pads wearing out VERY fast and typically ruining the rotor also. Just a tip for ya!

You have a very good point. But realistically when it comes to the calipers on a Kia Forte, as long as you are very gentle and you don't leave them hanging for too long you can get away with it. The calipers do not weigh much more than 10 to 16 oz.

The one thing I would suggest if you live some place where salt is used during winter is to put some of the anti-seize on the contact points where the brake pads touch the bracket hardware. I usually take mine apart to clean and lubricate about every 10k miles.
@christhonert2592 жыл бұрын
To add to this.....if you service the brakes when you put ur winter tires on and off (Oct and Apr) this will add to the preventative maintenance and prolong the life of ur braking system

should you take the brake fluid cap off when pressing the caliper? I also did my brakes, but did not line up the notch with the clip on the brake pad.... the pads lasted a month, and i think i JUST figured out why... lol could that happen?
@daringmotors3 жыл бұрын
You can take the cap off but I have done it both wastes and it doesn’t make a difference to me. And if that notch isn’t lined up it could cause some excessive wear

The parking brake is self adjusted and the loctite insert required but is just a precaution as brakes experience a lot of vibrations.

@daringmotors Жыл бұрын
I would check to see if your brake pads are low and if they are replace them. The other thing is the tabs that hold the pads in place can sometimes hit the rotors and cause a squeak

There is a problem with changing Kia rear brake pads, as even the original instruments do not fit. The original has dimensions of 4,5,6, etc., but Kia has this difference of 4,5.......You have to buy this screw separately, although it is not expensive, I think it was 8 dollars at Walmart

@daringmotors3 жыл бұрын
I always recommend replacing the rotors as if not they can warp easily if they get too thin

It depends on the thickness of the rotor in question. The KIA rotor will have a minimum spec in order to resurface or if replace.

you should grease the (ears ) the tabs on the brake pads
@chrisbartkowicz27594 ай бұрын
I know why and used to...but grease attracts dirt and debris. And I have gone away from it and haven't had issues. Just my 2 cents
@wigletron28464 ай бұрын
The hardware is stainless so it won't rust. As for the ears, I don't think it matters all that much. The grease will attract dirt which could hamper the brakes moving orif you don't grease it they'll rust jack and hamper the brakes moving. I live somewhere with lots of salt and never really noticed a difference either way.
