Head supports are adjustable. They are on a rack system. Pull fully forward and adjusts to 3 positions horizontally. It’s a lovely car. I do about 55 miles motorway commute and currently at 2000 miles with 4.3m/kWh.

Very useful review and discussion thanks Lads. One minor thing that slipped by you; (but I think it's pretty neat!) At 4:10 talking about the space under the boot floor; raise the back edge of the floor-panel and pull it towards you, about one foot (300mm). Now slide it forward again, and the boot (trunk) floor is 6 inches (150mm) lower than it was. There is a cunning sloped support ledge that makes this happen. There won't be space for the charging cable bag, but with persistence the cable can fit in the frunk.

I have had the Nero EV 4 now since August I of the first one in the country It’s really good 👍 just does what you want it to do they have even give you an easy solution for that annoying beep the lane assist. Just hold it down for a few seconds and it disables it. Brilliant that is so annoying when on small roads. But apart from that much better car than the previous E Nero which I had and sold after 2 years and got the same money I paid for it. Well Done Kia 🎉

Great review as always, in case you (or others) care you can indeed swap the Volume and Tune knobs (it's in Settings -> Button -> Vol/Tune Knob. We've had our Niro EV 3 for about a month now as a companion to our Soul EV 1st edition and agree completely that it just feels slightly more modern inside (although I still love the Soul).

@stewardjames
@stewardjames 2 жыл бұрын
@@pwr1990 we wanted the heated seats and steering wheel (which counted out the 2). Comparing the 3 to the 4 it seemed to come down to the sunroof, HUD and HK audio and while they'd have been nice (we have the latter two in our Soul 1st edition which is our other car) just couldn't justify getting to basically 40k (we ordered at launch pricing). We're also buying long-term not PCP so it's not just a case of a small monthly increase. With the HK audio gone from the 4 I definitely would have gone for the 3 but obviously everyone has different priorities - happy choosing!

I have had an E Niro 4+ for a little ober 18 months and it did surprise me how good it was and moving from an Audi Q5 s line is saying something! I have not missed my Audi and love the fact I just plug it in when I arrive home and wake up with a full (mostly 80%) battery. As you say over 4 miles per kWh easy especially in summer, but winter takes it down a bit. Worst range from full was 215 miles completed in January 3 degrees temp for all journeys and drove to Manchester airport, left car for 2 weeks and drove home, arriving with 6% battery. So easy 250 in summer and 210 in winter. I will definately be looking at this when I am ready to move on, they have pretty much fixed all the "It woulfd be better if..." thoughts I had. Great review as always, but I must say the white version of car with the black rear sides does have a storm trooper look going on!

I tossed up between waiting for a new Niro EV or going for a year old e-Niro 4+. I went for the latter as I wasn't sold about the 'touchscreen' climate/media controls and the potential for sunlight making the non-recessed dash displays difficult to read. Also the removal of things like the HK sound system, questions marks about the supply of the granny charger and V2L adapter etc sealed the deal. I would have loved a HUD (I had one previously on a Peugeot 5008) though... Not at at all disappointed with the 4+ and some of the stories about software issues with the new car means I won't be changing until the new one's been out for a while. Slight correction about the video - The V2L inverter is rated for 16A (both inside and the plug in adapter) in the European version as the Schuko mains connector is rated for this but the UK model of course will be limited to 13A by the fuse in the plug.

Have a version 3. Already used v2l during 2 hour power cut. Long extension lead into house to run TV, router and fibre box used about 2% of battery. Getting 240 miles on a long mixed drive. Used ionity to charge and was only getting 43kw at 35% only downer on this car, fortunately don't do many long trips so not a deal-breaker.

Had mine for just over 2 months and love it. The charging speed doesn’t bother me as I can charge at home and just don’t do long journeys where I’d need to charge it a large amount in one go. I know they stopped offering the smaller battery because people didn’t buy them but personally having done over 2000 miles it I’d be happy to have saved a few thousand pounds or more and charged it an extra time per week. I think we’re still at a point where people are learning what they need from an ev and how to live with it. One minor annoyance for me is that on the manual climate controls you can’t turn on the heater without going into a menu. You can turn the ac on and off, but not specifically the heater, and once you’re in the menu you can have both on the which essentially means they seem to cancel each other out. On the auto setting it switches from ac to heat depending on the temp you set, but manually there’s not heat button on the touch display - which I think the sportage and ev6 do!? That said the auto settings are pretty decent so I’ll probably just end up sticking to them anyway. The other thing is that it has a wireless charger but no wireless CarPlay/android auto. Having to plug it in to use CarPlay completely negates the wireless charger. They’re quibbles at worst though and now I’ve got used to them I don’t really notice them when driving.

Bit late but my Seat Leon has the same issue with its wireless charger but wired auto. I picked up one of the cheap wireless android auto dongles from amazon (about 25 quid). I now have wireless Android auto, it also resolved a super annoying problem where android auto would occasionally just crash on me.

Sorry Andy I'll disagree with the two-tone panel on the higher trim, I love it. Doesn't make it look like every other car on the road. I would get the two-tone model every time. Just had to check and the peak charge rate is 80kW and the battery is slightly bigger than the original eNiro giving the Niro EV every so slightly more range and is more efficient with a lower Cd than the original. I always love your reviews though guys, keep them coming. You've made me come back and reconsider the Niro EV again, toss up between it and the new BYD Atto3 that is available here in Australia. But hoping it gets to the UK so you can review it as well. Though BYD may give you a better warranty option than they have done here.

Power delivery curve probably sensible - it's a little too easy to wheel-spin in the old eNiro, being FWD, although traction control does kick in. Other thoughts: with the driver safety features optioned you're unlikely to shunt-damage the charging port as the car will brake if it thinks you're going to hit something (don't ask me how I know!) Storage bin looks a bit smaller, wireless phone charger is tucked out of sight on the old model so you won't get your windows smashed if you leave your phone behind. Many old owners fitted after-market frunk/froot (and gas struts) - you just get used to pulling the bonnet release and you don't really get dirty once you know exactly where the bonnet catch is. Range, efficiency and boot space are great but that looks like quite a lot less space under the boot floor than the old model where it has been a life-saver for family holidays. Still a winner although it's a shame the refresh didn't include faster Rapid charging but the range does hit 300 miles in the Summer around town and vehicle-to-load is a big plus. Crap audio makes me cry - does it still have a sub in the boot? BTW once you connect your phone and use the steering wheel buttons for volume you don't need to reach that far button on the console. Isn't a heat pump always nice for efficiency? I wonder if it affects range.

With the infotainment you simply *hold the button for 3 seconds* and it sets which screen, audio or econ as default. Set audio as default this way it always switches back to Audio after changing econ settings. This info is buried in the owners manual 😉 Most aren't even aware. It's the same with all new Kia's with this switching screen infotainment/econ system.

I'm just about to buy 2021 E-Niro, from a French KIA dealership, for €22K (£18,700). 21,000 miles. So it has 250 mile range and 4 years left on the Kia Warranty. What's not to love about that? I'm trading my lovely Nissan LEAF (only because of range and Chademo) which has been the perfect runabout for 2 years. I'm sold on EVs, sold on charging at home from Solar, and sold on the driving experience of EVs. I'm sold on the lack of annual servicing items (basically just screen wash). I figure it will be my next car for the next 4 years at least. In 4 years I expect the EV industry to have moved to 400 mile range as standard, and battery technology to have improved by a generation. Whether or not I need to buy into that is another matter because a guaranteed 200 mile range was really all I was after.

Another great review. As a 1.5 year Soul owner it's interesting to see what has been done. I really would have hoped that something could be done about the rapid DC charging, even with the current/older battery tech. 77kW wouldn't be a problem really, if it was able to deliver it *more often*, not just with the all the 4 battery modules at or over 25C. If you have been on the road for 250 miles or 3 hours I really don't mind if the car takes 30 minutes to take in a charge. Some cars will charge so fast that you would have to stop eating to go and move it off the charge point. What would be super useful would be to be able to get 50+ kW of charging as soon as you plug in, not charging at 20-30kW because of the cool winter battery temperature, only finally getting to 50kW when you've nearly finished and the speed gets throttled by the higher SOC. Taking in 50kW at temperatures of even 10C would make a difference so often. Re reversing bongs - Yes, such a nuisance. Thankfully the Soul and earlier e-Niro have the VESS switch to turn off the Vehicle Engine Sound System which also mutes the bongs. For me that switch would be a deal breaker and has gone from latest models. God knows why Korea likes noise so much: the loud seatbelt warnings, the Telly Tubby welcome and turn-off jingle and the over loud VESS and reversing bongs. Heaven's sake, ICE cars are quieter! In another forum someone drew attention to the fact that reversing bongs on cars (rather than bigger vehicles) don't appear to comply with UK regulations. Follow the link below, scroll down the page to "E CONTROL OF NOISE", under that we see "99.Use of audible warning instruments" - Click on that link: (3) No person shall sound, or cause or permit to be sounded, on a road any reversing alarm fitted to a vehicle- (a)unless the vehicle is a goods vehicle which has a maximum gross weight not less than 2000 kg, a bus, engineering plant, or a works truck; Clause 99(3)(a) of The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/contents/made www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/regulation/99/made

Totally right with the front charger. The most likely place to have a crash next to, obviously, the back. The best would be if the carmakers would only choose either back left or front right, so noone blocks the other - that does not only happen at SuCs but also often here in CZ at 50kW chargers which have rather short CCs cables)

Managed a 50 mile road test of an eNiro, followed immediately by same using a Niro EV. No doubt the new Niro is a vast improvement in almost all respects. With one exception - it is noisier (the 2 cars were an eNiro 4+ and a Niro EV4. - will they have to change that when the EV6's little brother the EV4 is releaased?). Definitely more road noise. Also the Niro EV I tried had the KH audio system, and it is far better than the ordinary Kia system that was in a Niro EV3 I also managed to try. Pity they have had top drop it. I was worried about the charging rate, but on thinking about our driving habits, most of our driving is relatively short distance, and charging will be handled by our home charger. For a long journey we never drive more than about 220 miles non-stop without stopping for elongated comfort breaks, which usually take about an hour, so as long as there is a working charger there it won't be a problem. With regard to the MG4, I found that I have the same problem as with an ID3 and Tesla 3 - getting in/out and sitting down is awkward, as I have foot/knee issues. The Niro is about right, and the ID4/Enyaq too high. Also the MG4 I looked at at the nearest MG dealer was not impressive in the body seam gaps, and quality of interior.

We’ve had a Niro EV 3 for a few weeks now. I’d totally agree with the road noise comment. It’s way too loud for a car edging up to £40K. The comment that it’s competing on German/VW build levels falls down in cabin noise front alone. Also not impressed with it refusing to go into drive on a handful of occasions now (only allows neutral to be selected) causing us to be late for children’s classes and work.

My Niro EV 4 is 11 days old and I’m already having issues. The car often (3 times so far) refuses to move into gear. It seem it’s immobilised! I turn the car off and lock it then go back a few minutes later and it will start ok. Not good for a car that cost 43k
@johnafotheringham4266
@johnafotheringham4266 Жыл бұрын
I’ve had this. Google “zombie mode”. In my case I used the app to start climate control during the recent cold spell. The issue appears to be that when you unlock the car (possibly using the door button) it doesn’t terminate the remote CC session. Consequently the car can’t be put in gear. The issue resolves after 20-30 mins when presumably the CC session times out. I now make sure I use the app to switch off the remote Cc session before approaching the car. Other than this, I’ve had no issues, and it’s a great car. I bought a 3, but wish I’d bought a 4 as that has the wing mirrors auto tilt when you reverse. This appears to be an undocumented feature, and seems to require the seat memory function that is only available with the 4 trim.

Stop buying electric cars everyone... We're not ready... still! Ok.. let me explain. Having followed the EVM story and gratefully followed and adopted advice on solar panels and home batteries, I took the plunge to grab an EV's. Away goes the Mercedes CLS motorway destroyer for a lesser branded model from Bavaria. Up until now the story has been good. Small to medium journeys are cheaper for sure although we're never going to recoup the purchase cost delta obviously. So this weekend was the big one. A meticulously planned trip to Scotland near Oban. A stop at Gretna Green was unanimously the most reliable option given the several stations available however with the two Gridserve spots taken, I'd have to make my way up to the 4 expensive Ionity spots way away from the services near the filling station. But what's this? they're all full and 2 cars are waiting! After a wait of 40mins I'm on charge for another 45minutrs myself. Ok.. against a coffee and a fuel stop I'm 1 hour down but it's a stressful hour in that there's no real order to the queue. You need to monitor and manage your position in the car park. At this point my wife is questioning my sanity adopting EV's but I try to turn it around by carefully planning activities around known charging points. Also, I claimed, the journey up was a Friday morning so maybe lots of people are travelling back north for the weekend??? The journey home was to be the last straw though even though it was a Monday. After a good long run, the first stop at Abingdon on the M74 was to prove the predicted flashpoint.. both charging stations full and believing to the 3rd in line, an Audi driver slips in and causes havoc. A very shouty and swary dialogue ensues with him predictably claiming that he was waiting before everyone else but was parked way back over there etc... Upshot... Another wait to charge in the horizontal rain for over an hour. Now I'm starting to agree with the wife that this is not necessarily the future.. due to the others now waiting I choose to 80% charge which forces me into a zap and dash. Might as well do it at the acclaimed Tebay services where you need to navigate to the northern side before arriving at the crappy Gridserve where... Yes you've guessed it .. there's another queue of 2 cars this time. I'm 8 hours into a journey now and need to wait another 35 minutes to get on a charger. I've done the same journey in the diesel Merc in 4.5 hours. This is really not a good way to travel. Both the wife and I are absolutely all in and highly stressed. Hence, my initial statement. Don't add to the mystery. Stay clear of EV's until the infrastructure is there...The costs to charge quickly at 69p per kWh means your savings are questionable at best. People need to know this before they take the plunge. Everyone in the queues claimed to be equally at the end of their tethers so unless somebody tells me that it's different elsewhere in the country then either don't go north or don't add to the EV charging mysery!

I'm invested in it so I hope it does improve and soon but if I could reverse the clock, I would have stayed with fossil fuels. All I'm saying is that for now, we don't need more electric cars on the road until the infrastructure is in place to provide adequate charging on the main arterial routes. Also, we need to regulate such that the likes of Ionity don't keep on screwing us at each charge. I had notification that they're putting it up to 75p per kWh soon.
