Had this EXACT issue yesterday with a little supercharged 3 cylinder Nissan engine here in the UK. Nightmare to start and when it did would run like a bag of spanners and stall. P0011 intake camshaft timing over advanced. Scope data showed the same, out but quite a bit (should of started alarm bells). Ready to pull the trigger on worn timing chain as there's endless reports on the issue. Watched your video last night when I couldn't sleep and bingo! In a attempt to remove the intake solenoid this morning I must have freed it up, car now starts and runs perfect! Shame I couldn't confirm when stuck but never mind, new valve on its way, Cheers Eric

There was 8k cash discount. Very strong peppy engine, smooth tranny. As of today we put 82000 kM. My wife drives kids to school, shopping and to church, same scenario. Change oil every 7K kM. Most of those km short 10- 15min drives on a cold engine. ( heavy duty cycle.) There were 3-4 recalls. Most significant: oil pressure probe leakage and front control arms. I had a similar issue with my 07 Hyundai Azera, same 3.8 engine with slightly different intake manifold. Got a P011 'A' Camshaft Position - Timing Over Advanced or System performance (Bank1). P012 'A' Camshaft Position - Timing Over Retarded (Bank1). As well as a P0300 Random Misfire Detected. The solenoids are referred to as "Oil Control Valves (OCV)" There's a TSB for them: KIA: TSB 046. HYUNDAI: 09-EM-002. I ordered both OCV's because if one is bad, the other likely will as well. Plus its a pain in the rear to get to these OCV's. You have to remove the air filter cover/hose, unplug a bunch of connectors, Intake manifold and gasket, as well as the suge tank and gasket (below the intake manifold). Then you'll be able to reach the two OCV's. DO NOT MIX UP THE TWO OCV's they're different (color coded gray(bank1) and purple(bank2) connector). Once I replaced both. Issue went away. There's more to my story on the HyundaiForums.

A bit much is currently “over my head” but one day it’s all gonna come together! You are my beginning! Thank you! I did change both camshafts A/B Then changed crank shaft, ultimately with my 3rd eye since it was in direct middle, almost center of the engine with little to no correct tools. Yes, I’m broke, motivated and a bit crazy… And engine light is still on… Ohhhh, and this is what would be somewhat embarrassing… The “male” (wire holster) part to the camshaft A bank 2 was severed. The “female” part is what I replaced on each. Soooo…. with absolute ignorance I stripped the wires and braided them back together. I need some Tesa tape but used traditional wire tape. Now I’m going to learn about electric current and such (I know, I know… I’m that idiot, after the fact) so that I can hopefully replace the male connector of the camshaft sensor. By the way, so far I’ve spent about $100 on all these parts. But I spent 8 1/2 hours replacing the crankshaft sensor. 3 hours verifying its location…😳 3 1/2 hours trying to get a screw aligned with movable parts that I can not see nor get 2 fingers in. (Hence, the third eye, statement) I’ve got to get this thing fixed before Thanksgiving. Please pray for me in all the ways visibly needed by my comment. Thank you!

Working on a 2008 Sorento 3.8l, had same codes P0016, p0300, P0301/3/5. What had me chasing my tail was the misfire counters on scan tool climbing for the bank 2 cylinders. Sometimes on #2, go to restart they'd be jumping up for #4, occasionally then on #6. Once I saw the difference between intake advance actual/desired and it being stuck at 50 deg adv, it became obvious the VVT was the culprit. Fortunately it wasn't corroded in on this vehicle but Kia put a steel coolant Y pipe in the front engine bracket that prevented removal. Rather than take off the lower intake and deal with draining coolant + a lot more labor time I cut off 1/4" of the pipe and it slid right out. Section of the filter screen was torn and got lodged in the valve. Removed the debris, replaced the screen with an old dead valve I was hoarding and wound up being a no-parts req fix. Dealers want stupid $ for these and aftermarket quality is shady at best.

Always a pleasure watching you work. I definitely know how hard it is to think with a 'cloudy' head. I have an '07 Mitsubishi Galant ES 2.4 that seems to 'struggle when starting. I want to check the connections when it gets a bit warmer. They stuck the damn starter under the exhaust manifold, but such is life. I've the car for 3 yrs. now and am happy with it. Also had problems with battery not have=ing enough oomph, but thats mostly because I don't drive it every day and only happens on '0' days. Hi Eric, I would have liked you to advance the good bank phasor solenoid and see if at thet point more or less the 2 bank waveforms would have lined up. I think it would be a very good test. Also when aiming your camera at a computer screen you should use manual focus to keep it from "hunting" and also increase the f-stop between 1/2 to 1 1/2 stops to increase the exposure (if the majority of the screen is white). This was a great one! I probably would've yanked the cover ... and then flipped out when I found I didn't need to. I forgot how cam phasers throw a whole other variable into the mix. Scary part is, this thing is NINE years old now - I can only imagine the pitfalls they're engineering into the current model year stuff. I won't know for another 5- 10 years, depending on how low manufacturers set the bid for the parts makers ... I laughed my ass off when your camera did the slow-mo dive straight at the keyboard! I've seen that view before after a few too many, lol.😁 Love how it stayed in focus almost the whole way down. Always love your reaction too! CRAPBISCUT! 🤣🤣 And, "Must be from Avoca" .... 😂🤣 That was great!! Nothing good happening around here. One kitten just cost me $1k after he refused to eat, and drank very little for 3 days (not the one that watches SMA with me - his brother). Love the little guys - couldn't stand watching him just lay there instead of running around at light speed like a terror with his brother. I'm getting soft with age - love my cats, what can I say. Was expecting it to cost double that, so that was good, I guess. Thought he had an obstruction in is colon, but it turned out to be roundworms! Nasty little f'ers. He's slowly bouncing back now. Sucks giving a cat meds, let me tell ya!! Then all the welding I did to the front axle of my neighbor's yard horse broke, and took out the brand new front driveshaft's u-joint. I have to wire up a 220 3-pronger plug for my big Miller, and drag the thing through the mud out back to the new shop from the old barn - the little Campbell-Hausfield 70A welder just ain't cutting it. But before I do that, I've been battling with my sister-in-law trying to explain to her that when you shop by price for tires, and brakes, the results are usually less than favorable ... AND, it makes more work for ME! Haven't shot any video lately since I've been in a foul mood the past week, but things are finally looking up. Ordered some name brand tires for the sis-in-law (tire place was trying to sell her no name junk tires for $79 each - could get same on eBay for $58 - Talked her into Continentals, and threw it on my card - they can pay me when they get it ... then to top it off, tire shop sells her 15" tires to go with her SIXTEEN inch rims!! Gotta love it .. ), and got her front brakes straightened out - they had me throw pads on it a couple months back with no rotors, to fix a "grinding noise". Yep! So I explained to her how she just tossed her money right in the fire by trying to save a few bucks. Got some new pads AND new rotors, and did the job right this time ... although they bought the cheap pads with no shims that were lower quality than what I had to toss. 😞 I'm gaining on it though! New rule around here for family - I buy the parts, or I don't work on it!! 😉
