I'm glad I got recommended this channel today and that you had Kiawentiio on and at 8:03 I absolutely agree. I love how Katara is gentle, doubtful, respectful even when she wants change, vulnerable, sad, yet hopeful. This is so great to see at age 31 and the kid version of me who watched the original show is so happy with this version and Kiawentiio's casting! I also love this show too!

What I find coincidental is when Mae Whitman voiced Katara, Whitman was 18. Kiawentiio was 18 when she played as Katara.

I think she has the potential, Katara's characterization was stripped from the writing though. I hope Netflix takes notes and Kiawentiio gets better directing. She's ideal in every other way. Would never have known bending boot camp was challenging for her because her physicality in the choreography was great.

Great look alike for Katara but honestly bad portrayal of Katara. Most of the actors casted didn’t study their characters well, sorry to say. Evident of bad writing 😒. Katara is feisty and a domineering feminist, always shows this will to take charge and stand up or look out for others, sort of a mother figure but I honestly didn’t see any of that in this live action, yuck! Why write off the most important element that makes the show what it is, the character flaws. Netflix failed badly in getting that point that the flaws each character has help in the growth of the series and that is what makes the series solid in the animated and why people loved it so much. This live action sorry to say doesn’t hold water (and cannot be bent😂: see what I did there). It doesn’t come close to being a series people would talk about in years to come. It was at least supposed to even be almost as good as the OG in terms of a good story but they failed there and it looked rushed. Just hope the S2 and S3, they work at the story build up and let the character flaws reflect them and how each character grows to be better versions of themselves. And I hated them forcing their ideals on sexuality on we the viewers. Why would you change the beautiful story of the creations of Omashu to a Lesbian love story😒. That was very annoying.

Sokkas actor was great. He sounds and acts like Sokka. I do agree her performance was incredibly lack luster but they took everything that made Katara, Katara and shoved it down the garbage chute. Unless she was some unbelievably talented young actress, you can’t really expect someone with such little experience to rise beyond a terrible script.
