Speaking from a born Kansan, the midwestern culture is so engrained into our mindset that you can't just kick us out, "Ope", "Don't mean to be a bother", "Midwest goodbye" all of those are key parts to the Kansan persona

As a proud central Minnesotan now living in northeast Kansas, all I have to say is the caller is out of his mind! I didn’t hear a single long o or a nasaly n from him. Ha ha! I’ve met some rural Kansas who have THE SAME German midwest accent as the county in MN I grew up in. It’s taken me a while to accept it, and there’s no Fleet Farm and no ice fishing culture here, but I can fully endorse KS as a midwest state.

As someone who grew up in Kansas and had to move down to Texas I can confirm we're very much Midwestern. When it gets below 50 down here and I wear a light jacket everyone else is wearing arctic parkas

If anything let's just remove Ohio from the map...it is the armpit of the US and just there for speed traps. Some basic history for anyone who's confused: Midwest literally means "the middle west." As in, going west but in the center of the country. Kansas is as Middle Western as it gets. If anything, Minnesota and Wisconsin should be demoted. the St. Louis Arch, pointing at Kansas, was "the gateway to the Midwest." There was this thing called "the Civil War." Kansas and Nebraska fought on the North. In fact, they fought even *before* the war, when the rest of the country was still figuring things out. Missouri and its surrounding states fought on the south. Oklahoma, for a long time, wasn't a state. It was an Indian reservation. A very interesting and respectable culture, but also very different from Midwestern culture. Midwestern culture is dominated by immigrants. Specifically: Lutheran immigrants from Germany and Scandinavia. Kansas has that in spades. Other states to the east and south: not so much. Kansas also likes pop, ranch dressing, football, cheese curds, polite driving, shitty beer, etc. basically all the Midwest stereotypes except for the Canada shit that the Great Lakes states imported.

Nah as an Arkansan we do not accept Kansas into the south. No sir thank you. We accept Missouri, mostly, and Oklahoma and Texas. And Oklahoma is similar but not trying to be Texas. And while we are a Plains state, in my we are just as midwestern as MN and WI...(and maybe more than IN and OH which to me seem east of midwest) 😅

I am a Minnesota who lived in Kansas for many years.. KS is not Midwest - they even talk with a southern twang - but they’re not south, either. They have the range - so may even fit the west more than the Midwest. I enjoyed KS, but I’ve lived in 11 states including MN, WI, IA, and SD. They’re Midwest. Kansas is not similar to any of those states. Nobody in KS knew about Lutefisk or Uff Da! My in-laws lived in MO - MO is more southern! I lived in OH - not Midwest. I agree. MN is the most Midwest state. I’m back in MN.

mo and ks has more of the vocabulary of the midwest than south, unless you go southern mo, then theyre more southern than midwest. ks and mo can have more of the southern accent at times, hell i do, and im in kcmo. overall we're both midwestern and southern depending on where you live because we have a mix of both due to the way it blends. you have a very narrow view point seeing as you see the extreme of midwest, but in truth, we are a mix of both but classified as midwest. but as i said it all depends on where in the states you live and the extremes around because differences intertwine eventually :) i do live a little outside of kc so im a suburbs girl, so im a little more country than city due to the knowledge i have from experiences about 20 minutes out to the east with friends. but i can confidently say we're, both ks and mo, are a good mix of both southern and midwestern to where we dont have the extremes. (if you go down to the south like branson, youll get much more country twang, then if you go northern in mo)
