Griefers wouldn't be able to go around shooting everyone, because they'd first need other players to run gun stores, import weapons and ammunition, and approve gun licenses. Even if they do that, they'll get five minutes of running around with a gun before they've run out of player-base to shoot and now the whole town is "dead" and there's nothing left to do. Police can't stop them because they're still waiting for the player RP'ing the employment agent to approve their application to the police force, not to mention needing players to staff a police academy, dispatch and so on. Of course, police can't pursue criminals either, because they still need to get their drivers licence and someone needs to make sure the station is stocked with functioning police cars.

A lot of people here are going "who would want to do all these menial jobs" but that really is an entire genre of games all on its own, such as your mechanic simulators, trucking simulators, there's a shocking amount of office job simulators as well, and that doesn't even get into stuff like Rust and Valheim, or various Minecraft servers where the resource and social aspects are a huge deal. You can also see this in how things like EVE Online have been structured. The ambition of the gameplay and the genres it's trying to merge aren't the problem here, it's the fact it was a blatant scam in every way that's the problem
@littleshopofeldritchhorror62243 жыл бұрын

I disagree. These games you are playing against (mostly) polite NPC's who are interacting with you in a correct and accurate manner to push the player's experience along accordingly. If There is no way that someone who is a mechanic in a virtual world who has to deal with toxic gamers (actually, just having to interact with humans beings in general) will likely throw in the towel and pick up the simulation games that you mentioned.
@ChucksSEADnDEAD3 жыл бұрын
The thing is, for example the trucking simulators use real maps and realistic timetables (travelling across countries in Europe would take hours, travelling across Russia or the United States would take days especially considering mandatory breaks). There's an immersion component. You wouldn't be able to entice these people to have their slow, methodical play on maps that at most would take 30 min of driving and have shootouts happening in the roads and helicopters falling from the sky as they get shot down. Not to mention constantly getting robbed. They're no longer playing the game, they're playing the part of a NPC.

This is why I urge everyone to get their information from multiple sources not just believing the first one you see. If you watch a news media network, make sure to watch several of them and make sure you watch some with different views on the same stories, this goes for KZbin news channels, and journalist articles. Don’t fall into the trap of listening to the people that say the things you want to hear for this is how news media keeps an audience and subsequently divides people. They tell you the parts of a story that give you a false perception. I literally saw in real time CNN and Fox News cover the same story and show the exact same clip. CNN cut the clip just as another speaker was about to begin while Fox News ran the entire clip. On the first point, that's not a bad thing. Ask any game developer and they'll tell you that they buy assets all the time. Of course, I also think you mean just buying assets and do nothing of their own. Devs that are worth their salt would at least modify the assets they bought to fit the art stye or change the textures (speaking of which, you download those, too). But this is what they do most of the time. This is also true for 3D animation and visualization artists. For architectural visualization (archviz), for example, they much prefer you not waste time making a couch unless they are asking for something extremely specific (making a couch, no matter how good you are, takes five hours--five hours that they rather you spend on actually designing the scene.)

People keep throwing away their money when they see another indie MMO or something colossal like that crowdfunded. I can't even name a few that began this way and succeeded, they're all destined to fail. It's simple math. There might be a couple of exceptions that I don't know about, but that's what they are - exceptions. There are only two types of developers who are willing to take on such projects: amateur dumbasses and full-blown scammers (this case is the latter, obviously), both stupid and irresponsible when it comes to other people's money and trust. Everyone else is the mix of the two. Oftentimes they start out genuinely wishing to make such a game, then have to deal with the unfortunate reality - you need tens of millions of dollars, more like at least a hundred, and a lot of professionals to make something like that. Some react honestly - they just stop after a while, knowing full well that nothing would come of it. But most keep dragging it out with empty promises, feature-creeping ideas, and talks about POTENTIAL (which the general public worships for no reason) that could never possibly be realized and therefore is worthless. Until they feel like disappearing with the money. Same story every time, with minimal variations, but there's always enough newcomers to prey on who are ignorant of the patterns. Besides, buyer's remorse is one hell of a drug.

The saddest part about this is, the animator guy could have made a decent career out of making movies and short films online with those skills, but instead he chose to use his gifts for greed and ruined his chance. I mean, let's be real, some very popular indie movies have been made on budgets of 70k-ish, and those were live action where the laws of physics apply. 70k for a Machinima based movie would go a whole lot further, and that's even accounting for hiring VA talent.

I think CD Project Red is off the table but one can hope Rockstar is taking note. This is definitely the future of the MMORPG, I just don't know if technology is available for it yet.

There had to be a point where even the most ardent supporters of this project had to step back and reassess that support. Some of the claims that KillerWhale Games were making regarding in-game content border on the surreal. I love these Kickscammer videos, but this one was especially interesting. Can you imagine a developer crazy enough to try to make a game like this? I mean other than Yu Suzuki.

I owned a Wii U and was broke for a while so I actually skipped the ps3 and most of ps4/x box consoles/games until recently getting a ps4 pro a year ago, so when cyberpunk 2077 failed to deliver I just went back over to playing gta5 and went back to having a good time and going over all the things i liked about the game.

It took 1000+ people and nearly 300 million dollars to make GTAV. I couldn't imagine how many people and how much money it'd take make a game of this scope and detail. Not to mention how long. No way this wasn't a scam of some sort.

Remember hearing about this. Too bad we can't get actual, and more realistic, releases like RAW. Kinda reminds me of that 2D mystery game that ran away with people's money. Forgot its name, but Slopes Gameroom covered it once.

We think that GTA 5 cost a lot of money but Star Citizen has had 10 years of development time AND $550+MILLION and is still nowhere near getting a release! Just shows the difference between a company that knows what they're doing and a moron (Chris Roberts) that doesn't haha!

I keep hearing about the jpeg ships and shit people throw money at on top of the road maps and tiny updates and am baffled. Makes me wonder if Chris Roberts will die a wealthy old man in a castle, leaving supporters with an incomplete game. In my personal opinion, I have a feeling its not going to end well.

I'd rather work in real life than in a stupid game LOL this is what exactly happened to Farmville. the players are overworked and overburden by too many things going on and plethora of farms that need to be tended!! I mean it's like a day and night job without a pay! I'm glad I left playing that in 2012 LOL but really at one point in 2010 the game is enjoyable. Until goats grow in trees and flying horses are introduced LOL

Never, ever fund anyone who has "the biggest greatest bestest" idea for a game. This campaign had all the red flags and people ignored them completely. 1. Small team (1-2 people) - Coding, sound, music, modelling, artwork etc. take a lot of effort. Promising lots of unique details in game world will either take lot of time, be bought from someone else or look total crap 2. No previous projects to show - Will it be good? Will it be bad? Will it be worth it? If they have nothing to show, it should tell you something. 3. Massive Online-game as a first project - Nope. Not gonna happen. Unless 2 developers want to spend next 15 - 20 years on one single game. 4. Requested funds are way too low compared to projects size - Should be a clear sign that they are either way too optimistic, have no clue how much large scale projects cost or game will be stuck on development limbo for eternity. Or that they will just take the money and run.

Endless abilities without a good basis don't make good games. "you can be whatever you want" doesn't works. Systems need to be in place, and though the whole idea of "build your own society" sounds great. Think EVE Online! It is work... And people who like to play games usually don't see it as WORK! Many people play games not to be reminded of WORK! The work they did just an hour ago! So that is why GTA's race, ride over npc's, burn down cars, evade police feels so great. It is freeing oneself from the rules of society and work. So why would ANYBODY want to go back after work to WORK? And if you want that, aren't there better games to do that? Like EVE Online, or maybe you like City Builders... and want to make the perfect running city?

To be honest, "Artur Hartikainen" sounds like a name someone came up with when they wanted to come up with a name that was supposed to be Finnish. Sure, there's always the chance of having been named after a non-finnish person, but the name Artur isn't really a common Finnish name.

Kind of a shame... Despite being a huge fan of GTA 5, Rockstar went maximum scummy with their handling of GTA Online. We never got the single player DLC we expected, and GTA Online has become a pay to play shitehole that is nothing but absolute carnage 24/7. Wasn't the case for a long time, but that ship has sailed. Not to mention the greedily slow money making / progression and the fact that to buy everything, it would cost you THOUSANDS of USD. I'm fed up with it honestly.
