Hey Mike! Just wanted to share some tips. There really isn't a "2nd" run like in Zelda for starters. Just the same game over again. However there are multiple endings. In order to get the best ending screen you must have at least 4 of your stats maxed out (heart count, strength, endurance, all 3 special weapons aquired). There is a method to getting the level up after the stages... there is an invisible skill score counter that adds and subtracts from said score based on your actions (-10 for each arrow shot, +100 for defeating an enemy that drops a small heart etc). The reported easiest stages to get these upgrades on are 1-2, 2-1, 2-2, and 3-1. Guides online can explain it more in depth to you, I'm looking at a guide on gamefaqs. Also, you can't haggle prices on shops with black backgrounds (known as the black markets)... it's not based on your strength to intimidate. There are also guides online that can show you how to win all of the pots in the pot/treasure rooms. The guides tell you which pot to shoot first and by what item you are given, the guide tells you the order to shoot them in to win them all. Anywho, sorry for rambling. Kid Icarus was like the 4th or 5th NES game my sister and I got as kids, which I'm glad we did because it soon became hard to find in stores, and has a special place in my heart to this day. My sister beat the game before I did, she was a few years older than me, but I still remember the day she took Medusa down for the first time. I beat it soon after, I just struggled in some of the dungeons. Damn Eggplant Wizards. Have a good day, Mike!
@chopperdave3868 Жыл бұрын
@@euphan123 It is a challenging game in spots, mostly some tough jumps, and the dungeon boss levels can be tricky. I beat it as a kid... was definitely not the hardest NES game. The final boss fight stage against Medusa is actually rather easy. I'd still say Ghosts n Goblins, Castlevania, and Amagon are much harder. I enjoyed Mike's Amagon stream recently. He did a decent job but was also unable to beat it. I have yet to beat that one either, and I owned it.

one of my favorite dialogues came from a james and mike mondays, you and james were talking and in my memory, i altered it so it sounds like a quentin tarantino movie. . . Mike : "you know what the kids these days are calling it when you are refilling back up your shit?" James : "they don't call it refilling back up your shit?" Mike : "no man, they got them internet now and those MMORPGS. ." James : "what they call it then?" M : "Farming!" J : "haha, what are they like, agricultural workers?" M : "ya know what we called it? Refilling back up your shit!" . i still remember some of the back and forths you guys had and i rewrite it in my mind that way. "everything's a skull" is a classic . M : "everything's a skull" J : "example" M : "what?" J : "you everything's a skull. gimme an example" M : "uh, dr wily's castle, that's a skull" J : "gimme another" M : "um. .you're a skull!" j : " that's repugnant! you telling me i'm made up of itty bitty pieces of skull?!" m : " yeah, undernead your face, there's a skull" j : "well, if ya put it that way, we're all just skulls with skin and meat on them" . honestly though, i think we're just brains, piloting bone mechs, covered in meat armor. but then maybe we aren't even the brain, we're like, electrical impulses created by the brain and hopefully one day, we can be transferred into a more durable shell. . amazing that these random rants can inspire such deep philosophical thought,lol

Grinding is when I kill enemies over and over to increase my characters experience points like in an RPG game. That's the way I always looked at it.

It's honestly impressive how much value you got for your money with a mainline Nintendo title back in the NES days! A fully fleshed out game world along with a 2nd Quest to give even more replay value! Sure the games were very hard, and good luck to any kid actually figuring out even half of the mechanics to these games! But if they were somehow able to figure this stuff out, there is some serious value to be had there! Sad part is the vast majority of kids in the 80's probably didn't know enough about these games to really get into them that deeply. Like I mean who actually knew about the 10th Enemy has the Bomb thing in Zelda & how it actually worked? & how many actually knew that nearly every screen in the game had a hidden staircase of some kind? I never knew about any of that stuff til I was MUCH older! Nintendo Power was basically required in order to get the most out of these games, along with some serious gamer skill! It honestly feels like to me that these games were better suited for ppl that were of teenage age at the very least, cus how else would you be able to figure out half of this shit? Most kids weren't going to be smart enough to figure the more detailed stuff out!

Hey Mike, I know it's unlikely this comment will get a reply from you guys, but I just wanna know if James has ever played Kid icarus: Uprising. I know he at least knows about it since he always does a bit of research before an AVGN episode, but in case he hasn't I highly recommend it. It is widely considered by many to be one of the best games on the 3ds. Everything from the characters to the writing is really well done. Speaking of writing, the guy in charge of the English localization for the game was SNL and The Onion writer Mike Drucker. It really shows because the dialogue between characters is hilarious and filled with 4th wall breaks and references to other Nintendo games and even to the original Kid Icarus as you would imagine. The game is a level based shoot em' up/hack n slash, each chapter takes around 10-20 or so minutes to beat and there's 25 chapters in total so it's not that long of a game. Also the story takes place in real-time and doesn't interrupt the gameplay which I know is a real nitpick you and James have when it comes to modern games. At the very least, hopefully you can let's play it on your channel.

It takes all your hearts and you don't gain any new heart and are unable to make any purchases until you get enough hearts to make up the difference. If you hit the pots in the right order, you will get a prize. The prize will be in the pot that the God of Poverty would normally be in. You simply have to break that pot last.

It appears that the only point to the second quest is that it gives you the only chance to get the best ending to the game (since I think in the first quest, you only can get a maximum of four arrow strength and you need five arrow strength to get the best ending). Still does not excuse the pointlessness since either they should have made it that you can get the best ending on the first quest or they should have made the second quest more difficult to make it worth your while to get the best ending. Games so far beaten this year: -Ducktales 2 (NES) (hidden level found by getting all the map pieces) -Ice Climber (NES) And now Kid Icarus (though viewers are better off watching your first playthrough of this back in 2021 I think).

What's annoying too are the dungeon items. The map isn't very helpful and the pencil and torch only show a path where you have traveled too and a flashing box lol. I also think it also starts marking the map after the purchase so you wouldn't know where in relation you were from the start of the dungeon compared to the store was? I guess one would have to draw a map? Tip the sand areas restore energy though. I think the idea though with the whole map thing is the dungeon is supposedly dark and you need the torch to see the map. Everything is bright looking though on screen so who knows? Zelda reference- in some rooms of dungeons the rooms are dark. They ought to remaster this game and fix all these things. Imagine actually progressing thru and only seeing your way thru with just the light of the torch and reflecting off of the wall.

I think the point of the second loop is just god mode. It's so hard in the beginning, I think they expected the reward of wrecking ass on everything to be enough. Most players who get there, it won't be on a first attempt, they'd have lots of failures to make up for emotionally. I mean that, or it was the lazy person's job and they were meant to up the difficulty. It's also early enough in the console market that it could be an arcade carryover from how they made those games, just an automatic choice by default.

I watched this twitch stream live but I think something was wrong with the chat. I don't think I was being ignored, I believe my comments were never seen, for some reason. I've heard it's happened to others.

This one and GB one are ok, but Uprising on 3DS is best Kid Icarus game of them all imo. Too bad it never got a sequel.

I rented this game back in the day. Played it, got my butt kicked, stopped playing. Too tough for me.
