@@Zton-yn4kc i can't remember where but i believe in 1 of the dubs goku actually mentions that it's no use, i can't concetrate. which makes sense since he needs to sense out a energy source and then use it, costing a lot of concetration. this is a fight or flight moment, they're going as fast as they possibly can but the ball is catching up, he probably was already looking for a way out and realized that with everything going on he couldn't concetrate enough to lock on to anything. he even needs to know exactly where something is, where was he going to teleport to? King Kai, seems plausible but again, he needs to focus, which while going at the speed of sound with literally enough energy behind you to blow up the planet 10 times (as goku puts it) there's just simply no way. Supreme Kai can since it's 2nd nature to him, but Goku could only do it in a combat situation against Cell, where he had plenty of time to plot his course, which using his signature attack (kamehameha wave) which he is 100% comfortable with. even in DBS he could use the kameha while his body did the dodging and moving forwards against Kefla in UI.

I remember this first used during ginyu's metamorph technique against goku, followed by his numerous failed metamorphing attempts with a frog too. Then goku killing frieza when frieza tried to kill him. Android 17 killing dr gero and then trunks tried to stop 16 from being activated. Then imperfect cell almost killing piccolo. Then semi perfect cell walking towards 18 to absorb her. Then perfect cell getting killed by gohan. Gohan turning super saiyan at the world tournament. Now kid buu destroying earth.

There are a number of things that I like about this scene. This is the only point in the series that we truly see Goku begging an enemy to stop, and Kid Buu doesn't. That nothing that either him, not Vegeta can do, to prevent Kid Buu from doing whatever he wants, and ultimately destroy the Earth. And no matter what Goku and Vegeta had said to Kid Buu, words were useless on him, all for the sake of Kid Buu merely having fun, in the only way he knows how. That Kid Buu is arguably the only villain, if not at least in the minority, who really doesn't have any rhyme or reason for what he does, outside of the simple fact that he can and wants to, with literally nothing stopping, nor anything getting in his way. (Not counting the Spirit Bomb, but yeah, I see that as the point where he is stopped.) While this may be the one true point where Goku has lost everything, Vegeta had to witness himself losing everything, twice in his life. Always did felt that Toriyama did a marvelous job with this scene.

It wasn't as emotional, just someone who couldn't face losing a 2nd time to Saiyans. Kid Buu had nothing to lose, and nothing to gain, when he destroyed Earth. He did it, just because he could, and simply wanted to.

Having goku confront the reason why he doesn't kill people who are evil in the moro arc. and facing moro with that resolve. Vegeta confronting his past with granolah in the granolah arc and trying to repent by playing the villain and the eleborate properly so both of them can move on with their lives. Frieza appearing with a new from recolor or not it was unexpected and extremely well executed. He was already foreshadowed at the beginning of the arc too It's not perfect but the fact that it can return after a 10 year+ break and have people rent building and public areas out to watch the series together shows that it's leagues above any other anime in the ability to maintain and attract an audience.

The music has alot to do with the fact this scene conveys a sense of hopelessness that Goku and Vegeta have to effectively abandon their sons and Piccolo and escape Earth before it blows. I love that line "That's enough energy to blow up the planet ten times!" Normally in modern Dragon Ball a statement like that is so arbitrary because power means nothing anymore, but here it works so well because it just shows that Buu is a being of such hatred and violence that he didn't just want to blow up Goku, Vegeta and the Earth, he wanted to completely wipe them all from the universe.

@@immortalfrieza They definitely can do the same thing he did, but it’s a lot harder to actually stop him from doing that. When Buu created the first small energy blast Vegeta just barely stopped it. And plus it’s not that they can’t survive that blast, it’s the fact that the Earth was going to be destroyed, along with the dragon balls. Vegeta was literally in shock at seeing Kid Buu do that and Goku was begging for him to stop.

Chills, absolute chills. Ever since I first saw this episode/moment, I always associated the song playing when they're trying to escape the energy ball with Baby Buu. Like you can actually feel the fear Goku felt because never in all the opponents they have ever faced has anyone just outright blown Earth into nothing. Not as a warning, last resort, or threat but simply because Baby Buu could, and he did. I remember seeing this scene for the first time and being so taken aback. Goku is always headstrong and never turns away for a battle and never wants to see an opponent at nothing less than full strength. But in this one moment he realized that no matter how strong he is or thinks he can become he couldn’t overpower Buu to prevent the inevitable and as he faced the certain prospect of everyone he has ever known and loved being annihilated all he can do is plead to evil incarnate not to take everything away. It goes against his whole philosophy and reason for being a warrior, and that is what makes Kid Buu so terrifying.
