Jeffrey, I haven't. It seems too complicated for me lol. I leave it to the Pros. Chris has that ninja Skill I lack. Been rigging everything else my whole life, but here I'm lacking in that area. And yes Chris loves inserting 😅

Very good. Other ways just as good but a little easier IMHO. Always tie the way your most comfortable with. Thanks for sharing, Tight Lines !!!

I like that bench vise/brace for the line. Is that something you guys made, or did you buy it somewhere?

Everybody seems to have their own method in closing off a splice. It's interesting watching. I like to do somewhere in the 6-8 foot range but it's probably redundant. I've been doing three nail knots, one under the spectra, and one on each side of it. I don't really love the serve. I find it twists the line no matter how tight you have it and it makes me nervous. I now leave about 2 feet on the end of where I start the splice. I run a series of half hitches. Little spectra adhesive. I've never had one fail and have caught a bunch of 150+ pound tuna on them. Seems to me whatever you're confident in wins!

@@markgarry2921watching this over a year later and I'm curious if you've started making your own yet? Rigging is almost as fun as catching fish for me. Why? Beats me but it adds to the enjoyment when I'm catching fish. I'm the nutjob that bought a Triangle HD140 line winder off a tackle shop down here in the OBX when they upgraded so I enjoy the process. Just tied about 50 double dropper loops for my annual pilgrimages for tog coming up in November. I've caught 300+ pound swordfish, bluefin, marlin, sharks and the like but I probably enjoy tog fishing more than I do my offshore time.

I’d advise the Winthrop Terminator long buts over the short curved buts. Yes it’s a lot more $$ like $300 more each. But I had a set of rods with the short bent buts that I love to to fight fish out of but they are simply a pain in the ass. The short buts are impossible to put in a rod holder you need rod but extenders, they are a pain to store and they love to launch out of the rod holder on a bite make sure you have a safety line. The Winthrop buts allow you to go from straight to bent by pushing a button and you have the best of both. Run back now and exchange them you’ll thank me. I left those rods on shore for 2 seasons it was to much of a pain to deal with them before I went to the Winthrop’s.

Thx Cap. I’m just not a fan of Winthrops, I do prefer their guides. These butts are perfect for my needs. I experimented with them on the boat and the clearance was perfect in my swivel rod holders (if they weren’t Chris would have just switched them out for me). Also rigged them in the stand up harness and they are perfect. I know Winthrops are the Hot thing now but I just dig the old school bent butt, nothing to fail Thx brother. And yes definitely leashes. Learned that lesson already 🥴
