which barrel length would you recommend for the best accuracy potential within 100 yards?

Bjorn, Our 20 inch stainless Match Barrel will deliver the best accuracy. All KIDD barrels are manufactured to the same high standards but generally speaking the heavy barrels give the best results. This is due more to the weight of the entire rifle. The heavier the rifle the less it tends to move as the bullet travels down the bore of the barrel. We build a lot of lightweight rifles that are also very accurate and with good position and a more aggressive hold they perform as well as heavier guns. Good Shooting Bjorn

I had the great opportunity to have some chats with some AMU smiths and the competition community when in the Marines. Long story short, it was one of the easiest decisions to arrive at to aim toward a KIDD rifle while looking into .22.

What ammo do you recommend with your barrels? Believe it or not, when I purchased a Volquartsen barrel back in 2005, they recommended Winchester Wildcat!LOL. It does very good with Norma TAC22 and SK Pistol Match,but never shot better than moa with the Winchester. I am very interested in trying a Kidd barrel as soon as I can steal the money from my wife's purse.

We recommend CCI Standard Velocity. Eley Tenex is my favorite but very expensive. I had a customer many years ago that would buy guns but leave them at the shop. Whenever he attended an Outdoors event or Gun Show he would luckily win them as door or raffle prizes. You just have to be creative. Thanks for your interest. TK

Are these barrels stinger safe or not? Thinking about the 16.5 inch version. What kind of accuracy should one expect?

Since he says his chambers are cut even shorter than a Bentz, I say no to Stingers. My Bentz chambered barrel came with a warning that Stingers, with the longer cases would damage the lead to the bore.

I use these barrels on the bench and for plinking. I shoot Wolf MT and SK Standard + match ammunition on the bench. I shot a couple 248's and consistantly shoot mid 240's in IR50/50 competetion at our local club. Flawless performance! For plinking, it has fed any bulk ammo I have put through it. I too give these barrels 5 stars.

Can you shoot high velocity out of this barrel? I already have one and don't want to mess it up.

Yes. I have shot Stingers Hyper velocity, and High velocity Remington Golden bullet high velocity through 18" KIDD BARREL with KIDD's 1:16 twist Lothar Walther riflling. Remington Golden bullets work very well. CCI standard velocity, Norma TAC-22, Eley Club, and similar [1025-1100] fps Aguila rounds all also work well with proper op spring in place. Be sure to use correct bolt spring for the velocity ammo you are using to ensure proper function and avoid annoying and destructive port pop which can occur with high velocity ammo and light bolt op spring. Port pop is "loud" and lets burning powder escape into rifle action and onto rear face of barrel near chamber . Port pop is a bad thing. For high or hyper velocity "I" use the stiffest spring Kidd offers and I use his bolt stop buffer pin as well .

Tips: 10/22 rifles do not like to be "free floated". Full length light pressure glass bedding works well. When glass bedding 10/22 barrel channel use a release agent {wax} on the barrel rather than electricians tape to avoid free floating {or a gap under barrel}. The Kidd bolt is a better fit to Kidd barrel than the Ruger Bolts I have here.

I emailed them. YES! They state that their barrels/Chambers are fine with CCI STINGERS! And that, friends, is why my next hunting rifle will wear a Kidd barrel and receiver!

will update later today, got my barrel installed and plan to go plinking in a few hours. While installing the barrel i had to take the receiver out to my shop to buff the paint out of the barrel hole. The pin that holds in my mag release lever fell out... (no folks its not the kid trigger, its the stock one)..... I found the release but not the pin. I wanted to go shoot today so i had to pay $2.03 for the pin and $17.50 for over night shipping.... but at least i am ready to go shoot....

Just got the 16.5 fluted barrel and I'm waiting for my KIDD receiver to arrive. Hopefully I can get it assembled and do so tack driving before the 2nd amendment evaporates!
