Was a bit worried about doing this with my machine after reading the comments. I put a ltr of hot water in for both the cleaning cycles and it worked out fine. REMEMBER the first 4oz cycle you run is a test cycle after cleaning the machine so won’t have a hot shot. The machine should work fine from the next cycle onwards 😊

At time of writing this, the video has been up for 9 years and has destroyed thousands of Perfect Prep machines. Here's how to do it: I use 500ml multi-purpose descaler and run the descale cycle. Then flush through 1l of cold water on the cleaning cycle. Next, replace the filter and top up the water until the refill light switches off. Then run a cycle. Boom, done 👍🏻

Read all the comments saying that the boiling water had ruined their machines and broke it and was apprehensive to do this. I followed the instructions of this video and used Distilled Malt Vinegar (clear white) and freshly boiled water from a kettle. The machine made some very disturbing sounds and when the whole process had finished, I did think my machine had broken as it took a while for the water to pump through it but by making test 4 oz bottles and pressing the main button a few times it finally drew water through and my machine is working as normal. So this does work.

Don't be alarmed but the descaling cycle actually take over 10 minutes to do, so make sure your not in a rush to do a bottle, when you do this 😉

I don’t know if anyone will comment on this now but I am confused. The manual says to fill with 1 litre of hot water and then follow cleaning steps 5-15 and then repeat the same process again. But step 15 says to press the filter reset button. Is this actually correct? Surely descaling has nothing to do with my filter so rather confused as to whether I should be pressing the filter reset button twice (especially considering the filter isn’t even being used during this process)

So I followed this guide and it ended up blowing both thermal fuses across the live and the neutral, I’ve also read people doing this and having to replace their prep machines due to it not working. I would highly advise against using boiling water.
@misssturniolo22284 жыл бұрын
MrCyrusm1 I had exactly the same problem!
@johnmit Жыл бұрын
To anyone else reading this now, the problem isn't with using boiling water (the thermal fuses are rated around 130C), but rather the heating element running dry because the pump failed to prime itself quickly enough (you hear a grinding noise). It's a massive design flaw as the cleaning cycle delibrately runs the pump dry, and the normal 4oz cycle doesn't have enough time to reprime it before the heating element comes on for the hot shot. What I do is run another cleaning cycle for 20seconds as a pump priming cycle before stopping it and then making the first bottle. You can repair the thermal fuses if you are confident soldering, but its a right pain.

This works perfectly no issued don't be afraid about the boiled water, only put it in until the light turns off. So just be careful not to over pour. I can only assume others added too much.

The descaling working fine for me, after all that was done I filled the filter with fresh water and tried to make a bottle, the machine made a grinding sound then powered off and hasn't come on since. Has anyone else had the same issue?
@ryanharrower61892 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly the same thing has just happened to me. (Unfortunately the comments were disabled in the settings on the KZbin account that I first watched the video!) Having now read the comments here, it seems there are very mixed reports as to whether or not this is safe to do.
@johnmit Жыл бұрын
Yes. The problem is the pump wasn't primed properly (the grinding noise) after the cleaning cycle pumped it empty. When the heating element heats up for the hot shot for the first bottle, it over heats (as there was no water pumping through to take away the heat), and blew the thermal fuses on the heating element. In theory the unit should do the first test bottle cold to protect against this, but it didn't with mine. The thermal fuses can be replaced if you are confident soldering, otherwise the machine is scrap. And as a lesson for anyone else I use the cleaning cycle for 20secondss to make sure the pump is primed before doing the first bottle.

Everyone saying that using hot water “broke” their machine during descaling but surely you’ve already put it in before as you have to use hot water during the initial set up process and every cleaning cycle which you should do every 4 weeks... I’ve had my machine 4 months cleaning with hot water with no issues and only now do I need to descale it for the first time (plus it was second hand and the previous owner used kettle boiled water in it too). The machine does make a horrible loud noise when it’s completely empty of water but it’s not broken

As long as your hands are clean, it will be fine. Store the filter in a jug or container while you clean the prep machine.

Don’t use boiling water to do the cleaning cycle afterwards because its just broken my machine
@georgewiltshire87426 ай бұрын
DO NOT ADD BOILING WATER!!! Don’t boil the kettle and add it straight in once it’s finished boiling. Boil the kettle first then start the descaling process. By the time the process has finished the boiled water should have cooled down enough to add in. If you use boiling water it’ll break the machine. It happened to mine. It would do its normal cycle when doing the bottles but the element was broken so wouldn’t dispense the hot water at the start. Luckily if you contact tommee tippee saying that your machine won’t dispense hot water they will send you out a brand new one but you’ll have to send the old one back. Can take up to a week. It’s a common problem that the element breaks due to people adding boiling water into the machine. Just make sure it’s hot from the kettle not boiling. If you can drink the hot water it is cool enough.

DO NOT DO THIS!! I followed the instructions and my machine stopped working. The boiled water blows one/both thermal fuses. There is a guide on KZbin to replace these and it’s not difficult but it does require disassembly and use of a soldering iron. How many machines has this video killed?
