This video is for those suffering from Kidney Failure and are trying to decide which form of Dialysis is best for them. I focus on the two methods of Peritoneal Dialysis: Manual PD (CAPD) and PD using the Cycler machine (CCPD) or (APD).
Thanks for watching!

Hi! Your video popped up on my feed and I was surprised. I'm 52 and have done PD continuously for 19 years. My story is a lot like yours, I have Ig A nephropathy, a type of glomerulonephritis. I took high doses of prednisone also and had many side effects. Have far too many stories of trying to navigate the healthcare system and some frustrating hospital stories 🤯 At one point I was my dad's caregiver when he was on hospice with cancer, I was my mom's caregiver while she had Lewy body dementia, and I was doing PD on the cycler all at the same time. I have been blessed to have PD work so well for me for this long so that I could do all these things I have needed to do. I think everyone on dialysis has different challenges healthwise, my worst has been Anemia. I get Epo shots, but it doesn't help much. My pet peeve is when some people assume because your kidneys failed and you're on dialysis that it is something you did to yourself to cause it, sometimes it's just bad luck...or genetics! I think it's great of you to make these videos to help people! When I started 19 years ago my nephrologist didn't even bring PD up to me as an option, thank goodness a law had recently been passed to make it mandatory for patients to get dialysis education. There I learned about PD. I later learned that was common for nephrologists not to bring up PD, either because they were not as comfortable with it as hemo, or also because they made more money on hemo patients(at least at that time). Sad but true. When I told my neph that I wanted to do PD he said he didn't bring it up to me as an option because he thought I would cut corners. To this day I don't even know what he meant by that...he didn't even know me. I have never "cut corners" never had peritonitis, never skipped dialysis, take all my meds, know all of my levels. I thank him for his motivation😝 Sorry for such a long comment, keep sharing your story and educating about kidney disease and PD, more people should give it a try.

I'm so sorry! Life has been been hard for you. Thank you so much for your comment and sharing what you have experiences. I too didn't know about PD at first. I thought Hemo was the only option. I found out about PD from watching video's from Singapore! And the doctor saying he thought you'd cut corners is so inappropriate!!

Never had any pain? If you did have any drain pain how did it resolve?
@kathy9172
@kathy9172 8 ай бұрын
Lots of different kinds of pain over the years lol. In the first month after I started PD I had some drain pain, but it subsided pretty quick. I was lucky to have a VERY experienced surgeon place my catheter, he had been placing catheters for decades. He had a heart attack and retired soon after he did my surgery. My nurse said I was lucky he was able to place my catheter, I still have the same catheter today. I guess what I'm saying is placement technique makes all the difference in how the catheter functions, at least that's my belief. I hope everything works out ok for you and your drain pain goes away soon, keep pestering your nurse and doctors if it doesn't, good luck!!@@michelleheadley2911

Idk how you popped up on my feed, but you're the channel I didn't know I needed. I lost 1 kidney a year ago and the chances if losing the 2nd is just a matter of when, not if. I had no idea this was possible. I'll be running through all your videos this weekend.

Thank you for your videos. My wife has just made the decision to go with peritoneal dialysis, so we are trying to learn everything we can. your videos cover many important details that we never thought about. She does not have her abdominal port installed yet, so we are several weeks away from her first at=home treatment, but watching your videos really helps us understand what to expect. MANY THANKS TO YOU!!!!!

I had labs done today (done monthly at this point) and my GFR fell from 18 to 14 since last month. I'm very upset and scared and I did make the decision to have peritioneal. I'm literally suppose to go on vacation this Wednesday, so I have to see what my nephro suggests. This sucks, but thank you for your videos. I esp. liked that you put up the time charts for exchanges. This helps so much!

Thank you so very much for this video. People who do not have CKD will never know just how much it takes to have a bit of ‘normal’ when getting up in the morning being able to do what is planned for your day. People who are chronically ill have so many challenges but we have got to stay on top of things just to stay somewhat alive. Things get even a more difficult when your own body was born fighting you (autoimmune diseases). How do the chronically ill manage, you have got to find that certain thing/hobby that takes your mind away from what is going on. For me, I started to study the violin which has made me feel that I have accomplished more than just focusing on my health tasks. Life is fleeting so do all that you can to maintain your health.

....you don't need to die...trust Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Believe on Jesus and His death, burial and resurrection for your salvation. 1CORINTHIANS 15:3-4" ...put your faith in Jesus Christ alone for your salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9" ...for the Scriptures declares that " For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. " Romans 10:13 God promise in John 3:16 " For God so loved the world ,that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. "...God promise is true. Amen. ...pray now. Admit that you are a sinner and lost. Repent, ask Jesus for mercy, believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sin...and by faith received Jesus in your heart as your Lord and Saviour. Amen.🙏❤

Oh, dear one, please do reconsider! What if, on your last day without dialysis, as you die, you think of something you could still have done, that you always wanted to do? Do the dialysis. Find out what you still need to do, and get it done! You can only do that if you're alive. Please live, please. I don't know if you believe in God, or anything. But I do, so I'll be praying for you. In case you don't believe in God, know that you also have my very best wishes for an excellent decision and great joy!

Because of your channel and presentation, I have prepared to go to urgent care! I have had the symptoms for over 6 months. I have taken care of family (palliative care for over 5 years) and didn’t consider my own personal health care. Oops!

Your information is very helpful as I've not seen this presented so concisely anywhere else. As I'm in advanced stage IV, I was advised to familiarize myself with the options and process of dialysis in advance. To prepare for this, I've been assembling useful information into a binder. I've carefully transcribed the information from several of your KZbins, including this one, and added. Thank you.

Thank you for all the information you’ve putted here , unfortunately I’ve started dialysis this week as the moment I’m still at the hospital, tomorrow I’ll be having my surgery to get the catheter placed , I haven’t thought i would start this early but my health went down very quickly in a year I went from stag 3 to renal failure. Thanks to god anyways . So I’m starting my PD I guess in two weeks , yet I can’t do it with the machine as I couldn’t find one here in Romania but only manual , I even was thinking to buy used one cuz it’s too expensive a new one , but your video made just stop cuz I’m slim person and that could be uncomfortable as you said , plus I won’t be able to find the Cassettes and the tubing , for they don’t offer such tubing for automatic machines but only for manual . Thank you so much for all the information and I pray for everyone to gel well soon . ❤

I have been doing dialysis for 27 years. First, I did PD for 10 yrs but after my peritoneum thickened and didn't work effectively I switched to home hemo. I did that for 15 yrs, without a fistula bc I am deathly afraid of needles! In 2021 I became very ill after taking a muscle relaxant and am now doing in-centre dialysis but the doctors have asked if I'd like to go back to home dialysis. If I were to do it all again I think I'd skip PD. I feel much better on hemo.
