the drummer is in college now from what I have heard, he was also the one who made this song choice, the vocalist is in a band called Saving Escape, she also did a cover of Tool's Sober not too long before she aged out of the program, as well as a pretty unique take on The Pot, her voice really shined on that

I'm 2 months behind with this comment, as I'm new to your reaction cast. But the drummer of Tool, Danny Carey, is actually a collaborator in this foundation. Specifically geared toward helping kids to have a chance to experience music, interact with instruments, and recieve quality courses. It's all about keeping the spark of new life and passion in the music arts. We take it so for granted, and when we do we lose quality. These kids are blessed, for sure💞 All the vids are worth a look🙌🏼 (teen group covered Slipknot recently, drummer wearing a Tool shirt🤘🏼😁🤘🏼)

The way this music academy works is each kid that does a certain amount of time there gets to pick a song they want to do for a group collab like this. The drummer is the one that picked this song. And he does an amazing job on the drums. The girl doing the lead singing is Kala Scarpinski. She has her own YT channel now. At the time of this video, I think she was 11 if I remember correctly. And she is a hard rocker girl through the core. She does other types of music too, but she loves hard rock and her idol is Lzzy Hale from Halestorm and she has publicly said that she wants to be the next Lzzy. She also did a cover of Tool's Sober with this music academy several years after this one. Think she was 16 or so at the time of that one and she learned how to play guitar in that 5 year span. This entire group of kids killed this performance, but Kala is amazing by herself and has become the biggest star so far from this group.

I can't tell you guys how many times I've seen this, but damn that drummer killed it!!! They all did an amazing job. This video also got sent the band themselves, and Maynard (the lead singer of Tool) mentioned how the whole band just loved it. A recommendation: There is a live play of their song Pneuma, made by Vic Firth, the company that makes the drum sticks. I highly recommend it, as you get to see drummer Danny Carey's technique during a live performance of the song. It's absolute madness watching his skill on his drum set! Loved this video, guys, and I can't wait to see more! Cheers from Oklahoma!

MORE MORE MORE O'Keefe Music Foundation reactions!!!!!! Kala Scarpinski (Kala Rose) is her name, and she is 19 now I think. There are many more OMF videos with her. Her first was Chain of Fools (Aretha Franklin), which according to Aaron O'Keefe...a young 10 year old little girl came to OMF, and he was blown away, it is a must watch. More favs are...Pull Me Under (Dream Theater), Sober (Tool), The Pot Version 2 (Tool), Crazy Horse (BLS), which was her final OMF video, and The Longest Day (Iron Maiden) which is my personal favorite...the entire arrangement puts the original Maiden song to shame. She also has an acoustic song posted under Kala Rose,...Spoke in the Wheel, by Black Label Society, which is hair raising. Her band is named Saving Escape, and boy are they good.
@bettyrose9593 жыл бұрын
This song was requested to record by the drummer. The Bass player was supposed to be on guitar but switched over to bass when the bassist wasn't able to show, is what I've heard. The foundation uses Tool and a few other bands for time signatures since they vary though out the songs. As far as I can tell from all the videos on their site. I would bet they have requests at the start of workshops for upcoming recording dates. It's how most schools I know go about it. I do have to say though, this foundation is the best I've ever seen. Hats off to the O'Keefe family for all that they do.
@cpprcrk18333 жыл бұрын
Personally I think that Tool's "sound" is exemplified by the Drum/Bass lines ( Maynard and Adam are also outstanding ) , so you could just see the drummer and bassist eyes just light up when someone first said " for our next project we're going to do a Tool cover " .

I know this is a lot late. The O'Keefe Music Foundation is a non-profit organization in Ohio the teaches music to kids that would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn. Also, the drummer was the one that picked the song they performed.

Not only are they smashing it, many of those parts are considered hard by lifelong players. The drummer from Tool is a drummer's drummer, the stuff he writes sounds good to any ear but drummers tend to be slack-jawed when they first experience Danny Carey just because of the creativity and technical difficulty. For that kid to be playing that part fairly well is impressive.
@willvr43 жыл бұрын
The drumming is technically difficult, the majority of the other instrumentals are fairly simple throughout the entire song.

Tis indeed a thing of joy. :) For a bunch of teenagers to pull this off is properly o_O And props obviously to the engineering & production guys to capture this, & mix & master so well to come up with a polished end result. The teen drummer tho, getting the spirit of the thing so close to what Danny does in the original, trying his arse off while obviously close to his physical limits at the time.... what an absolute #SpiritAnimal !! :)

Ok I’m trying to not be biased, but Tool is my all time fav band, and when you said you fell asleep during their concert, I almost unsubscribed😂. I’ve always loved this rendition, these kids are super talented. If you really know Tool, most of their songs are played in odd time signatures, so that increases the difficulty, and they smashed it. Please do Tool’s live performance of Pneuma from Danny Carey’s drum cam and watch a true master at his craft!
