This is kind of interesting. When i was a kid my parents were both pretty opinionated republicans. If you had asked me at the time what i thought a democrat was i would have told you it was someone who wanted to live off of the government and kill babies. I think every parent should let their kids know the difference in the political parties while trying to keep their own opinions about those parties out of it. I used to think democrats were monsters because that was all i heard my mother say about them, as a parent you should want your child to have a more developed understanding then that.

Growing up my parents were pretty conservative, and taught me both sides. Probably because it's kind of a generational thing but I was definitely more liberal than conservative but my parents had real conversations with me even when we disagreed and shared full issues with me and gave me access to information from both sides. Now I'm a Libertarian because both the major parties have serious issues they need to work on and their major stances seem less that relevant during out current dilemma. I'm not really an advocate for social and political warfare among ourselves and it seems the extremists of both republicans and democrats are growing. YIKES!

I like what my parents did when I was a kid. They just asked me to list my beliefs and said whether each belief was more in like with republican or democratic ideology, but also driving home that these are primarily fiscal ideologies with social impacts and not the other way around. It gave me more appreciation for nuance growing up and the ability to listen fully before making decisions. EX: 10 year old me tl;dr version "I think we should provide food pantries" "ok, how would you do that?" "everyone should give a little or provide some food" "ok that's democratic" "I think highways should have toll booths so the people who most use the roads are the ones who mostly pay for the roads" "ok that's republican"

I used to like being a democrat, living in a democratic state. But it is now 2020 and the state I was in has abolished authority and made its selfishness a freedom of liberty for all. I took out justice in "Liberty and Justice for all" as just "freedom for all" as it may hurt their pain of abolishing justice because they can't figure out the problem effectively. Freedom is not what I choose but what people as a whole should choose. Government sides itself on its own rules which is why the state I was in is now out of control. Like I said, it cannot figure out the problem but other states have and I got blessed by leaving my state in a way it lacked authority.

It's one thing for a parent to impart their beliefs to their children. But that little girl is straight up out there thinking that Republicans want to destroy our rights when actually we are technically the ones trying to protect our constitutional rights. Even as a homeschooled Republican, I was taught the meaning of Democrat and Republican. My dad didn'thave the nicest things to say about Democrats... but. I was also taught to think for myself, to look for truth, to be able to support my beliefs with evidence. I was taught critical thinking. I remember in grade school, maybe 10 years old, watching a local election that raised the minimum wage... I didn't know what the "Republican" answer was, but I recall asking my parents if that wouldn't just raise the cost of everything and hurt small businesses. Because I could think about policy and consider the ramifications to some extent. And I was aware that I was automatically right because the other side was automatically wrong. Like, there was some balence, ya know?
