I have no biological connection to this child and still, when he said he was scared, my immediate reaction was to cuddle him and explain to him what was going on. Feel free to parent the way you want but I could never do something like that.

Because it's not that serious to be treating her like a baby and pretending she got a flu shot (which REALLY hurts) You need to let your kid experience some things in life so they can grow up tough and not expect someone to be there for them everytime something gets rough. The mother explained clearly it was for the doctors to see everything was going well and the wound was already healed with a bandaid. She wasn't gonna die. She wasn't being insensitive, you're being sensitive.

Or if you can't bring yourself to comfort them, at least validate their feelings. Telling them that something doesn't hurt when they are the ones experiencing it, is bullshit. Yes, this effects kids.
