Wow! Talk about a full-on review! I'm glad you're having fun with it. I suspect you turned off the cute/annoying sound effects right away. Ted pleaded for my help on that one. I left mine on. Ha! Maybe you discovered it after the video, but there is an instant print mode. When you're in the camera mode, press the print button. A printer will appear on the screen, and you're in auto-print mode! Then, several seconds after taking each photo, it will automatically print. The real benefit of this camera is the low cost of prints, which is a fraction of the cost of Instax, for example. Also, you can make multiple copies of photos you really like. This would have been super fun at the Type In! I also settled on the Dot Matrix setting; it works a lot like a halftone effect. Well, I hope you enjoy this toy/tool for creativity! Thank YOU,! I didn’t include all the funny print modes either, mainly because there are so many versions of these on Amazon and elsewhere like AliExpress that they’re bound to be different. I think there’s something hilarious about doing “street photography” with one of these too!

A very cool camera. I have been looking at these kid cameras for a while. Back in the 90s I had one that had no screen; you took the photo and it immediately printed it. It was VERY hit or miss with exposure but would sometimes come up with nice "artistic" prints. It was probably a VGA web cam image sensor. These new ones look to be much more predictable, if not actually reliable. Thanks for the review.

The lens probably has astigmatism. The best way to really check is to photograph a brick wall. As for kids camcorders, the Fisher Price PXL2000 was actually used in the shooting of the movie Aliens. So it's not just a kid's toy in the end 😎

A while ago I made a video in which I used the thermal printer from a cash register as a photo printer. The image quality is of course not good, but it has its unique charm

Yes, the printed picture has the effect. There’s only one, front-facing camera.

Hi there. I didn't know you had a Photography project/hobby/passion as well. Do you have a specific account to showcase your pictures/projects? I really enjoyed this overview. I like the blending of typewritten text with photographs and I've been playing with the idea of getting a thermal printer. Have you tried the printers? The ones that just print without the camera?

I do have some images on Flickr, here’s a link: www.flickr.com/photos/31285363@N07/ My Flickr account is partially for archiving images and partly a repository for images I use in blog articles. You may want to look through the albums link to get more specific images. I’ve been eyeing those mini thermal printers but hadn’t yet tried them. But I do have a printer that uses rolls of 4x6 thermal paper, originally intended for making shipping labels but also works to print other text or low-res images. But it’s not very portable.

The thermal prints degrade over time, don’t they? Like grocery store receipts? Can I copy files (big files) from my Mac onto the tiny SD card and print on the camera?

If stored in a cool, dark location they can last a long time. It also depends on the quality of the herbal coating, I’ve been using EKG paper rolls in a thermal printing typewriter and that paper is very poor, the images fade in months, but heavier thermal fax paper, or letter sized sheets, are much better. I’ve been tinkering with transferring images to the SD card but thus far have not been successful in hacking the process. I will need to look at the Exif data in the camera’s files and copy the format, along with the exact image size.

Do the ears do anything? Maybe cut them off and paint the camera black..interesting "toy". I'd put one in my truck, but it would melt in the summer!

As much as I love my thermal printer camera - it’s a shame that they’re marketed towards kids without a disclaimer. Googling the safety of touching the unbound chemicals on the thermal paper’s surface (BPA/BPS) with one’s bare hands will provide concerns of ‘endocrine disrupting’ for developing/prenatal tissues
