In the neighborhood of Takadanobaba (高田馬場) in Tokyo, there is perhaps the best arcade in the city if not the country, and that is the Mikado game center. It's wall to wall, floor to ceiling, 100% retro arcade awesomeness!

Video games at home are just not the same. As good as home gaming has become it has never matched and will never match the atmosphere and experience of a real video game arcade. We need those loud, dark places to continue existing in the world, with rows and rows of video game screens and endless hallways of games. I love it and miss those places, sad we hardly have any left in the west.

It's heaven on earth, I have no word. It seems that most of the cabinet still run on their original CRT, which is awesome. Do you know if Japan still have a monitor provider for those? Or do they still have specialists who repair them to keep them running? Here almost every cabinet that still active were swaped to LCD sadly, of course it cost way less to put a cheap LCD than spending hours on CRT work, but damn ist the render not the same!

Sorry to hear most machines have had lcd screens swapped in. Crt repair isn’t that bad, there are many arcade enthusiasts who maintain their own monitors. Lots of information and help available on the net, including arcade forums. Pretty much every part is available for most monitors (both raster and vector), except for the tubes themselves. Plenty around to pull from-but those will probably never be made again.
@FDestroy3r
@FDestroy3r 3 жыл бұрын
@@Gunbu Yes but it cost way more to let a specialist work on them than just replacing it with cheap LCD. All real arcade are closed long ago where I live, but some bowling still have arcades machine, and of course they wont bother pay a lot of money to repair CRT, most of people wont know that it's not original anyway

This is probably the world's best arcade due to variety of old school games you can play. They pretty much stream a lot of Fatal Fury Special and Tokimeki Memorial Taisen Puzzle Dama, would love to see them stream KoF 02 Unlimited Match (another arcade somewhere in Japan also happens to livestream KoF 02 UM tournaments, and more modern fare), have seen them stream Batrider a time or two as well. I don't mind watching the streams, but when you get two dudes, and they chooe the same fighters 20 times in a row, kinda gets dull (I do understand they use the characters they know how to use). I have also seen them stream vanilla KoF 02, but once you play 02 UM, it's kinda hard to go back to the vanilla version due to that 66 character roster 02 UM has (counting playable bosses, which don't seem selectable for tournaments, understandable, probably not for 1 player mode either), only rivaled by the 64 character roster KoF 98 Ultimate Match has. The cats that do play the KoF games though, no way I'd be able to hang with these guys, unless I'd have someone to practicew against on all the 2D KoF's I have on the PS2 (all of them). Oh, they also stream a lot of Samurai Spirits II as well, people tend to play with different characters on it, probably the most enjoyable streams they do.

Can you give me a list of retro video arcade game centers in Japan that are still alive and well and their locations? Thanks very much. I've been thinking of visiting Japan sometime in the future and I as a big video arcade game fan need to be certain that those places are still alive and operational. I'm beginning to think that Gigo is just the new name for the game centers in Akihibara as Sega went out of business. I heard the arcade places themselves are still there and well. I looked at Mikado Game Center and it looks pretty damn cool.

@@RDArcade Hey. I’m thinking about visiting Japan a couple years from now as a Vacation. I’m Nick Doyle and I’m 34 years old. I was thinking of visiting Japan for my 36th birthday. I’ve been a big video retro arcade gaming fan all my life. Can you give me a list of retro video arcade game centers and other arcade centers in Japan that are still there and going strong? I know more than quite a few had closed down due to COVID, but I really don’t think arcades are entirely dead just yet. I’m highly autistic, and I’m from Texas. There’s also a few things I need to know. I know Japan has a reputation for being very expensive. What exactly will I need to do in order to be able to make my dream of visiting Japan come true? I’m fully vaccinated for one thing just to get that out of the way. Do I have to do something special, or make a series of special plans in advance in order to be allowed to enter the country because of the COVID rules? Any and all the info you can give me will be useful and greatly appreciated. Have you been to Japan and if so, how long? Thanks so much.
