Genuinely think that this will be one of the most important fashion shows of this decade. Just the lack of irony and true passion for both art and fashion is a nice breath of fresh air

Mr. Foster, I'm not even sure I possess the qualifications to say this, but I find your narratives to be absolutely brilliant and inspiring. Your obvious enthusiasm and analytical fascination with art, fashion and culture render your uploads to be imminently watchable. Thank you for investing your time and talent in producing your channel's content and sharing it with the world at large. I wish you continued success.

Thank you for adressing this runway, it made me really happy getting a notification you have no idea!! i study fine arts and have developed a passion for fashion ever since i found your channel, so this runway show (and your coverage of it) might be the most exciting thing i've seen in a while lol. Heavily considering writing an essay about it for school, and i absolutely will come back to your video if i do so!

@@regalprivate6372 plenty of designers do not even sketch. designing in all aspects of the word is most similar to directing in regards to other artistic mediums. its all about communication. you can use fabric swatches, photos, trims, and commission artwork from graphic designers and hand that to a patternmaker and they will draft the first prototype for a piece. sketching is useful but not necessary. most directors dont sketch scenes, they communicate with other people and create the environment on set and give direction through spoken word or writing. designing is not illustration or painting, it is directing. all you need to do is find an effective way to communicate your ideas well. for example i could find a bomber jacket thats shape i really like. i hand that to a pattern maker and say "i want the sleeves to be a tiny bit wider, i want the fabric on the torso to be blue velvet with white cotton mesh sleeves, i want it to be more boxy so widen the bottom hem, and make the cuffs a little less tapered, also add a velvet collar instead of it being collarless". just like that you have effectively communicated the foundation of an idea, from there if you want a graphic printed on the torso you could commission an artwork from a graphic designer and give them the same treatment in terms of spoken or written communication and then take the techpack file from the pattern maker and place the design on it and play with the proportions. from there you send the finished techpack and measurements to a manufacturer and thus begins the sample process. hope this helps. this sort of information is not readily available unless you really dive deep and i find that horrible. the industry pushes sketching and pattern drafting on all designers when a ton of designers do not do either. you do not need to know how to sew, draft patterns, or sketch. you just have to have intensive knowledge and phenomenal communication skills. good luck if you decide to embark on designing. wish you the best

This could easily be a gimmick but it's not even with the paint tube earrings, paintbrush holder satchel and hat..And painted with his mom?!! God, everyone, create with your children. No more setting aside some cotton balls and glue in a bowl while you clean or watch HBO. You can expand and test your consciousness alongside your kid, originating real art. We push our kids to do things we've stopped doing ourselves. Some of us don't even push our kids. Inspirational 10 out of 10. Thank you Bliss for the great coverage.

I suppose you could argue that Stanley Donwood as the 6th member of Radiohead, is an example of an 'artist' working in two different mediums to deliver on the same body of work. Especially from Ok Computer onwards, they have been rehearsing/recording/painting/creating in the same space to deliver on the same project.

Thank you so much, Mister Bliss (first time commenting). I would have never known of this artist if you hadn't been there for the show. Just breathtaking. My humble contribution to the conversation is Ms. Elsa Schiaparelli - her interactions with the Surrealists weren't literal interpretations. They were a furthering of the conversation with the idea that drove the artwork. I hope Colm is looking to do further interpretations with other artists working in the current scene (musicians to sculptors to mixed media). My take on fashion comes from a more historical perspective mixed with (slowly) learning how to make my own clothing (I have a cross-section of patterns from the 1930's-50's). I'm looking to going back to school to get my MA in Art History (skewed as much as humanly possible towards dress history). I've always been in love with the thirties - they were so bloody resilient. And their sleeve patterning was, in a word, insane. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

gesamtkunstwerk, "total work of art". think gaudì, incorporating architecture, sculpture, color theory and so on. or wagner, celebrating the symbiosis of literature, music and ballet. we've seen fashion in paintings times and times again, albeit bidimentionally, as you said. how fascinating is it to see Colm Dillane thoughtfully employing this very approach to do the exact opposite. reimagining the canvas, if you will. love it!

kid super is definitely one of the pioneers of direct artwork > fashion design, & theres tons of new artist/fashion designers on ig popping up as well in the next few years im sure were going to see a lot more of this type of stuff since fashion for the past 10 years has mostly been about brand names/logos

It's defintiely been being done, especially noticably with Raf and JW who are both great art lovers and have collabbed many times with artists, but I think whats special about Colm's work is that its *his* paintings. It gives it a more authentic edge to his paintings which are also a completely different aesthetic; much less graphic and much more painterly, which is just so interesting to watch

@@understitchYT I agree, thats what i meant about the artist/designers coming up now as well ^^ lots of new people physically painting and drawing on garments, as well as using their own physical artwork as prints etc - seems like its a new way for people to sell their artwork by combining it with fashion

@@TurtleMansion oh yes then I agree, the only other example of that I can think of are the Raf Simons cotton lab coats that were meant to be personalised and graffitied on, other than that I dont know of another designer that has so explicitly crossed that line themselves, or encouraged buyers to DIY (though there are definitely some, I just cant think of them)

Really sick idea for duel mediums! Loved that, snd the actual art was really good. I would deffo have bid for some of those pieces if money snd wall space were available. The framing reminded me of Yohji pour Homme SS2002 where giant pictures of women were very skilfully placed on oversized shirts and blazers. I think Kid did the placement more creatively than yohji so max points to him! As always, bliss you are a gem 💎

About fashion using painted art: Famous sociologist Bourdieu argued fashion was one of the 'lower' valued arts so the field of fashion sometimes uses the fame from other fields to legitimise itself. Literature and painting, but also music are inspiration for fashion collections but also legitimising the position of the fashion field itself against fields like comedy, comics, woodworking (more lower valued, less classic arts, disputed to be art(!)

Had the VOD of the show pop up in my feed and was shocked to hear numbers in the 10K range for the auction. It is one thing to be constantly thinking about numbers and how expensive certain garments can be when seeing the model with them walking down a runway but to be constantly being told dollar numbers as the models are walking down the runway or in this case the auction block is just craziness to do and accomplish. That is really something unexpected and came as a shock to me.

1. Childish Gambino came out with an album, screenwrite, and short film for Because of the internet years ago. 2. Basquiat made man-made which is essentially the exact same thing colm is doing, minus getting credit for clothes he didn't make. 3. Sterling Ruby could be considered a fashion designer if he wanted to. 4. Raf's SS11 Dior show included paintings by sterling and Monet in a show 10x greater and more nuanced than this. I do think this is an extraordinary feat being that it's an auction in pfw but there are so many false firsts going on at Kid Super Studios and not enough of that cult know enough history to correct them. This entire video is a reach and you know that Bliss. You've seen Schiaparelli's dresses with Dali paintings, this collocation is practically ancient at this point. It's kind of sad, he was even trying to say he was the first person to put paint on model's shoes until someone pointed out Margiela's first Tabi show. Bliss you're better than this! I'm sorry this is probably going to come off as me berating you but I really respect your opinion and now it seems you're running towards the money, which I get but don't lose your POV pleasseee we love you Bliss!
