Kierkegaard's work helped me work through a lot of things while I studied philosophy formally. This is a fantastic overview of a few of his major points. Great job, really enjoying this channel!

I wonder what a kierkgaardian tool kit would be to counter inauthenticity in the modern era. Where does one begin to unravel despair? Of course to be aware that one despairs is the first step, but often i imagine we tend to deceive ourselves with those strategies, the desire to be popular, lost in imagination etc. I know im guilty of the latter, trying to write a short story before i turn 29 to prove i can change, ironically by the 29th. All ive noticed from trying to do this, is how much Neitzsche is right about slave morality, which in a sense is a will to self annihilation or will to group appeal. I noticed that i put a lot of time into activities that involve others, hang outs, talking on messenger, a lot of reddit browsing, and ofc youtube. More consuming than creating. The passivity characteristic of herd morality. Its really sinister. Im still wrestling with it

This video makes me think. Thankfully I don’t really have a social media account except Reddit and KZbin. With my ADD Kierkegaard sounds a little difficult for me to read, so thank you for the analogies to help me better comprehend ( and the pictures). I love your videos and use them when I work out on my stationary bike, so please keep it up.

Kierkegaard was no stranger to fame, though in his case, it was in the form of cruel mockery. He writes in his journal and I paraphrase, that in the ancient world, which Kierkegaard called the age of passion, someone like Jesus was crucified for speaking his mind and heart. In the modern world, someone like Jesus is simply laughed at and called a madman.
@tomrhodes16294 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that piece, Nelson. As an honest-to-God teacher and prophet of God, I can tell you that most of the modern world would not laugh at Jesus and call Him a madman. The huge majority would simply ignore Him. This is a world of marketing to ciphers. And they simply aren't buying Truth. They're buying Donald Trump and Fox "News." I bring the same message that Yeshua One with Christ did. Because, orthodox Christianity has entirely corrupted the "gospel" such that it is in direct opposition to the GOOD NEWS that Yeshua One with Christ actually brought. Give me a "click" if you're ready for a deep dive. I don't receive KZbin comments notifications (so that i communicate primarily with seekers), but if you want to find me it's easy enough.

When you are in the public eye, the crowd will desire to expose all your weaknesses. The more people particularly hate one individual, the more untruthful their hate is. This paradox is from the fact that the person who speaks in a manner that is true to themselves, the less the world can understand them. That's why that kind of mockery is so painful. To be an authentic individual and be shut down by people who have no idea what it honestly means to be an individual is a rather absurd situation.

Something I've noticed over the last couple of years that has become a major problem and that is phone addiction. I see it from time to time, people outside walking looking down in a screen over and over again, not present. I think these people who can't seem to function without the phone need to be taught a few things about life and discipline, they are addicted to the phone, cannot do without it even when they are around others or in their own home. How can they honestly be giving their 100 percent to anything when they are constantly looking down at their phone, it makes me wonder what kind of things they will do in the world. Personally, I grew up in the 90's, a time when people didn't have a phone in their hand at all, for they were too busy outside working and other times people were engaged with something meaningful and productive. The only thing that was in their hands was tools, soil and rocks. So today, it really makes me wonder how on earth will people function or even work towards anything productive without a screen close by. We need to stop looking into screens and get working towards being active and productive.

I do understand what you are saying, I hear you, but real growth and strength is gained more from being more physical in our life experiences. Those who gain confidence only when they are fully embellished externally or when things work out smoothly, tend to be vulnerable more than anybody else, because there are so many conditions that have to be met for bringing themselves out into the world, that are encountered with numerous obstacles in that process. On the contrary, if you have the ability to open up yourself to the world with ease, that indicates that you have mental power.

Histogram is a reflection of society today whereby young people are drawn by a herd community, it's mores about physical beauty, and this attitude would persist in real life, regardless of the new platform of social media.

Having recently read the original version it seems to me that the English translation have a hard time capturing the nuances and poetry of the terms that Kierkegaard uses to explain his categories of synthesis of the self.
