Actually when Nordstream lines were cut Russia was delivering only a fraction of the gas the lines allowed due to supposed (hahaha) "technical issues" . Russia was never a reliable supplier of gas to Eastern Europe since they would often shutdown delivery to certain countries (including Ukraine) for political or payment issues oftentimes during the winter....

Democracy will do without an American armed protectorate or will turn out to be only a dead end of history. If the US and the Brits were behind the Ukrainian military strategy on the battlefield, I certainly don't have high hopes for the US/ NATO should they have to go up against the Russians. Don't tell me you air force will have air superiority over the battlefield.

NATO air forces would make mincemeat out of the RU VKS &gain control over the airspace above the battlefield. Russia would be unable to freely attack& the UA side would have air support for their offensives This is the minimum that would happen...More likely there would be a collapse or partial collapse of the Russian forces in Ukraine forcing a decision onto Putin to either quit the war or authorize some type of nuclear release. IF NATO lost some planes to RU AD it would hardly matter....

NOT some individual unmotivated private soldier deciding he isn't going to fight and looking for a way to surrender himself as a deserter... In the second case as I pointed out he might decide his chances of survival or avoiding torture at Russian hands might not be so good... Also much of the frontlines has a large "gray zone" which your deserter would have to survive the passage of to surrender.
